Sent to Stormcloud Station to learn the ropes on an Australian cattle station, Mack hopes to try his luck on the local rodeo circuit. Mack won’t admit his injuries have affected his self-confidence, and he keeps up a façade of swaggering bravado. Until he meets Bindi, a sassy, dark-eyed beauty, who gets under his skin. Bindi Takao is perfectly happy with her ordinary life working on Stormcloud. She loves her horses and her cooking. When the cocky new cowboy arrives from Montana, she steers clear, deciding he’s too sexy for his own boots. Mack pushes all her buttons, and she can’t decide if she wants to throttle him or kiss him. Then she does something totally out of character and spends one delicious night with him. Which is mistake number one, because Mack never dares to risk his heart. An out-of-control bushfire threatens Stormcloud. Details come to light that the fire may have been deliberately lit and suspicions swirl that Mack was the intended target. Not only does someone want him dead, but Mack struggles to deny his growing connection with Bindi. Can Mack succeed in facing his fears or will he head back to Montana with his tail between his legs? When two people fight their true feelings, something’s got to give. But mistake number two may just cost Bindi her life.

Book excerpt: With a plan to own or manage one per cent of Australia by 2025, Bush Heritage Australia is an organisation with big ambitions. Started by Bob Brown in 1991, Bush Heritage was born from an urgent mission: to protect pristine land from logging. After buying two blocks of land in Tasmania’s Liffey Valley, Brown built a philanthropic organisation to help pay for them. As donations flowed in and the organisation grew, Bush Heritage set its sights on acquiring tracts of land across the country, repairing environmental degradation and bringing native plants and wildlife back to health. Twenty-five years later, with more than one million hectares in its care, Bush Heritage’s achievements are celebrated in this book along with its growth from humble beginnings into a large non-profit with benefactors all over the world. Central to this story are the ecologists, researchers, land managers, local Indigenous groups, staff, donors and a brigade of volunteers who have helped the organisation to thrive. ‘For the ever-growing band of benefactors, and the volunteers and staff of Bush Heritage Australia, happiness flows from our combined effort to ensure that Australia’s unique landscapes, wildlife and ecosystems prosper into the future.’ BOB BROWN

Book Benedict Me and the Cardinals Three

Download or read book Benedict Me and the Cardinals Three written by William Morris and published by ATF Press. This book was released on 2014-06-01 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the story of my dismissal as the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Toowoomba, in Queensland, Australia. It relates, from my perspective, the dealings I had with various Congregations (Dicasteries) of the Vatican’s Curia in Rome and with certain cardinals and officials in those Congregations, as well as with Pope Benedict XVI, regarding pastoral activities and a letter I wrote to the diocese in Advent of 2006 while the Bishop of Toowoomba. The book details the background and events which led to my being asked by Pope Benedict XVI to resign as Bishop of Toowoomba when I had a meeting with him in Rome on the 4th of June 2009. I did not agree to resign, but negotiated with Pope Benedict to take early retirement which was announced on 2 May 2011. The book is accompanied by various Appendices of documents and letters from this period, including several letters from cardinals in Rome and the pope. Some of the documents and the Appendices have already been published in various places or are in the public domain in some way. They are published here again so that these documents are all in one place. The book has been written to give the story from my perspective of what happened in the lead up to my taking early retirement after refusing to resign. In the view of a number of civil lawyers, canon lawyers and theologians, both here in Australia and overseas, I was deprived of natural justice as I was in no way able to appeal the judgments or decisions that were made in these circumstances. This was made clear to me by the three cardinals in Rome with whom I had most contact over the time and by Pope Benedict XVI himself.’
