Book Good and Beautiful and Kind

Download or read book Good and Beautiful and Kind written by Rich Villodas and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2023-07-11 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ECPA BESTSELLER • An invitation to love like Jesus and step beyond distraction and division into the joy we long to experience—from the author of The Deeply Formed Life, winner of the Christianity Today Book Award “A stunning book with power to reshape our world . . . if we let it.”—Glenn Packiam, pastor and author of Blessed Broken Given We long for a good life, a beautiful life, a kind life. But clearly that’s not the world we live in. We carry the stress of our fractured world in our bodies and relationships. Families that once gathered around tables have converted those tables into walls. Hostility, rage, and offense is the language of our culture. How did we lose goodness, kindness, and beauty? And more important, how do we get them back into our lives? These are the two questions crying out in our streets, homes, churches, and from deep within our souls. Pastor and author Rich Villodas is convinced that only Jesus offers a way of being human that is both strong and tender enough to tear down the walls of hostility we experience daily. In Good and Beautiful and Kind, he reveals how… • These three essentials are stolen by sin, powers and principalities, and trauma. • We can get goodness, beauty, and kindness back through contemplative prayer, humility, and the cultivation of calm presence. • The traits of healthy conflict, forgiveness, and justice lead to wholeness, healing, and a new collective future—when rooted in the ancient way of Jesus. Filled with fresh energy, classic truth, and practical solutions, this is your road map for stepping beyond distraction and division to love like Jesus. Doing so will change the atmosphere within you…and around you!

Book Mending a Fractured Church

Download or read book Mending a Fractured Church written by Michael Bird and published by . This book was released on 2015-11-20 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it really mean for the church to have unity? When Jesus prayed for his followers to be one, he prayed that this unity would demonstrate the truth of his claims to an unbelieving world. Sadly, the world often sees a church that is divided. Some of our divisions are based on legitimate theological concerns, yet many others are simply matters of opinion. To the world, it's all another reason to doubt God. What are the differences worth dividing over? How should we handle diversity? Mending a Fractured Church, edited by Michael Bird and Brian Rosner, seeks to answer such questions, looking to the Bible for examples of how to behave when Christians differ. Speaking to pastors, churches, and seminary students, the contributors provide a guide to maintaining unity without compromise.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many men and women are apparently dropping off the edges of our horizons because of deep personal tragedy or even dramatic failure. they sink into a quiet personal despair, "robotic lifestyle" where each day becomes aimless and survival-oriented. Sometimes silently, sometimes loudly, they cry for help, and they're not heard in or out of the church. So, bewildered and confused, tey wander off to the side, and we ignore them-deliberately. We don't notice they're not around any longer until its too late. The sadness is compounded because the Bible, along with God's people living out biblical principles, offers a remarkable promise of rebuilding and renewal from which no one is ever exempt.

Book Good News For a Fractured Society

Download or read book Good News For a Fractured Society written by Stephen McCutchan and published by Author House. This book was released on 2006-10-19 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the ideologically divided, tension-filled world in which we live, imagine hearing someone tell you how God can work through these divisions in a way that offers hope and healing for the world. The author suggests that this is exactly what Matthew sought to do in his gospel. The Hebrew Scriptures tell the story of how God chose to accomplish a divine work of reconciliation through a chosen people who demonstrated the same strengths and weaknesses as most people in the world today. Matthew interpreted the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus as the midrash, or commentary on these Hebrew Scriptures, that revealed how God works with both the shadow side and the bright side of our human nature to accomplish the divine purpose. The contemporary church, in a similar manner to Matthew’s congregation, must determine the church’s response to a world divided between the powerful and the powerless (Chapter 1), the Christian faith and other faiths (Chapter 2), male and female (Chapter 3), and the wealthy and the poor (Chapter 4). Following an interpretation of how Matthew found hope in the face of such divisions, the fifth chapter recognizes that most contemporary churches feel helpless in the face of such overwhelming realities. The author then describes Matthew’s understanding of how God works through resistance and even betrayal to transform the world. The final chapter explores God’s intention to bring about a common witness of Jews and Christians in the reconciliation of the entire world. This book will provide a vision of hope that will enable Christians to respond with strength to the challenges of the world and have confidence that their efforts are not in vain. A study guide is included in the introduction. You may reach the author on his web page at www.smccutchan.com.

Book excerpt: The Resurrection accounts of Jesus in the Gospels are the most dramatic and impactful stories ever told. One similarity unites each testimony--that none of his most loyal and steadfast followers could "see" it was him, back from the dead. The reason for this is at the very foundation of the Christian faith. She turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. (John 20:14) Hope in the Time of Fear is a book that unlocks the meaning of Jesus's resurrection for readers. Easter is considered the most solemn and important holiday for Christians. It is a time of spiritual rebirth and a time of celebrating the physical rebirth of Jesus after three days in the tomb. For his devoted followers, nothing could prepare them for the moment they met the resurrected Jesus. Each failed to recognize him. All of them physically saw him and yet did not spiritually truly see him. It was only when Jesus reached out and invited them to see who he truly was that their eyes were open. Here the central message of the Christian faith is revealed in a way only Timothy Keller could do it--filled with unshakable belief, piercing insight, and a profound new way to look at a story you think you know. After reading this book, the true meaning of Easter will no longer be unseen.

The host of Jesus Is Real Radio and Hillsong Channel’s Real with Daniel Fusco unlocks the happiness we long for in the most famous teachings of Jesus and the apostle Paul. “Don’t just skim through this book quickly. Savor it and discuss it with a friend. Your personal happiness is at stake.”—Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life, from the foreword Dissatisfied with your life? Yeah, most of us have been there. There’s no shame in wanting to be happy, but real satisfaction often eludes us. At best, what fleeting happiness we find tends to dribble away in never-ending debts, stressful deadlines, and mindless scrolling. At worst, it’s chased away by anxiety, depression, or fallout from our selfishness. Here’s the truth: whether we hunt for happiness in parties, bars, the workplace hustle, or even in church pews, we’ll wind up shortchanged. Why? Because we don’t see our lives as beautiful. But God wants something better for you—happiness so real this world might think it’s too good to be true. In Crazy Happy, Daniel Fusco unpacks fresh connections in two of the Bible’s most familiar passages—secrets of happiness that can really, truly, honest-to-goodness change things. If you stick around for the ride, you’ll find the kind of God-given beauty that can change your life for good—even in our sometimes-crazy world.

Book Prayer Is the Only Way out in This Broken World

Download or read book Prayer Is the Only Way out in This Broken World written by Florence A. C. O. Uzoechi and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-07-10 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many must have wondered why Satan came into this world, if you have asked this question or being in one way or the other intimidated by unknown occurrences then this book may help out of what you have imagined. (Spiritual genocide) This book explores the nature of mass destruction in the spiritual and in physical realms. Due to failure to recognize the word spiritual has made it difficult to understand things happening at the other side of our lives such as unreasonable deaths, injustice, if we can reason together this merciless threat to humanity without their consent could have been stopped. Also if a law may perhaps be a draft for these problems as was drafted for the real cases things could have been different. We cannot pretend there is no spiritual life and cannot pretend not to be aware of human suffering on the other side of the World. Things are not meant to stay the same forever, there have to be some changes and how can a change come to live? Unless human makes a move. We are his representatives here on earth, and he is not coming back so soon although, he is with us in the spirit, before he comes back we should at least play our part making some impact and speak up what God has taught us. Mathews: 28: 19-20
