Thither has he returned as a mediator, and is highly exalted: He hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King of _kings and Lord of lords. The Scriptures explicitly declare, that at his name, every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth and that every tongue should confess that J esus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If God is holy, then He can’t sin. If God can’t sin, then He can’t sin against you. If He can’t sin against you, shouldn’t that make Him the most trustworthy being there is? Bestselling author Jackie Hill Perry, in her much anticipated follow-up to Gay Girl, Good God, helps us find the reason we don’t trust God— we misunderstand His holiness. In Holier Than Thou, Jackie walks us through Scripture, shaking the dust off of “holy” as we’ve come to know it and revealing it for what it really is: good news. In these pages, we will see that God is not like us. He is different. He is holy. And that’s exactly what makes Him trustworthy. As it turns out, God being “holier than thou” is actually the best news in the world, and it’s the key to trusting Him.

Download or read book Psalm 15 God s Holy Hill written by Bobby Romo and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-11-26 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psalm 15:1 LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill Psalm 15 is a call to check our heart and behavior and motives as we come before God with relation in mind. This Psalm educates the believer that desires a sincere intimate relationship with God. This is a relationship that goes beyond a weekly meeting and goes deeper into the all seeing presence of a Holy God. LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill This question demands a deeper questioning of ourselves before we respond with what we expect to be the obvious answer. It has simply been assumed by many that the holy hill is equivalent to the assembly of the saints or more likely, the church. Could it be there is a distinction to be found between the church and the place the psalmist is speaking of? Could it be that the psalmist is referring to another place many are yet to discover? The investigation of this verse might seem puzzling if we assume all believers automatically qualify to dwell on God's holy hill and abide in His tabernacle. As we examine the whole content of Psalms 15 it will become clear the real intent of this Psalm is to challenge us to draw a line in the proverbial sand in our lives. We are confronted to draw a line that will distinguish us as a people who not only claim to love God but a people who truly desire to know Him. Could it be that the psalmist raises the question because he did not find this to be the norm? Maybe at the time when this psalm was penned there was no recognized move among the people of God that would find them coming to and remaining in the presence of the Lord. This is a question that the Spirit of God confronts us with today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I used to be a lesbian.” In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could? At age nineteen, Jackie came face-to-face with what it meant to be made new. And not in a church, or through contact with Christians. God broke in and turned her heart toward Him right in her own bedroom in light of His gospel. Read in order to understand. Read in order to hope. Or read in order, like Jackie, to be made new.

  • Author : Kathleen Sprows Cummings
  • Publisher : UNC Press Books

Download or read book A Saint of Our Own written by Kathleen Sprows Cummings and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2019-02-27 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What drove U.S. Catholics in their arduous quest, full of twists and turns over more than a century, to win an American saint? The absence of American names in the canon of the saints had left many of the faithful feeling spiritually unmoored. But while canonization may be fundamentally about holiness, it is never only about holiness, reveals Kathleen Sprows Cummings in this panoramic, passionate chronicle of American sanctity. Catholics had another reason for petitioning the Vatican to acknowledge an American holy hero. A home-grown saint would serve as a mediator between heaven and earth, yes, but also between Catholicism and American culture. Throughout much of U.S. history, the making of a saint was also about the ways in which the members of a minority religious group defined, defended, and celebrated their identities as Americans. Their fascinatingly diverse causes for canonization—from Kateri Tekakwitha and Elizabeth Ann Seton to many others that are failed, forgotten, or still under way—represented evolving national values as Catholics made themselves at home. Cummings's vision of American sanctity shows just how much Catholics had at stake in cultivating devotion to men and women perched at the nexus of holiness and American history—until they finally felt little need to prove that they belonged.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Holy Hill: Its History Authentic, Legendary and Pre-Historic, in Prose and Poetry In preparing this little volume for its readers the author has labored to give a correct and reliable description, and at the same time, a concise and authentic history of what is locally and popularly known in the eastern portion of Wisconsin as Holy Hill. Though but a small spot within the great universe (only forty acres) yet it has a name and a notoriety of no small importance. It seems to be one of earths favored precincts; one which the bountiful hand of nature has profusely decorated with rare and charming rural scenery; a retreat for the weary; a spot divinely blest, the hallowed name and romantic beauties of which are destined to endure to the uttermost limits of time. All that pertains to the hill, geographically, has been gathered by careful research, observation and personal survey, while the distances and altitudes given are from actual measurements taken under the personal supervision of the writer. That portion which relates to its earliest known history, and down to the present time, has been transcribed from well authenticated records, and the whole compiled by one who, for the past forty years, has dwelt approximately within the shadow of the hill. Whatever is traditional, or merely hear-say, is treated under such especial headings, that none may confound the things that are real, or facts, with those that may admit of contradiction and dispute. Pertaining to such are the pre-historic and traditional history of the hill. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
