Book excerpt: Jesus was also about His Father's business. It was the only plan that made sense to Him and the one for which He would give His life. As an adult, He knew hard work, sleepless nights, and hunger. He was homeless and a man of sorrows, yet always rejoicing. He was poor, yet made many rich. As Jesus told the young man on the road to Jerusalem, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head" (Luke 9:58). By the common measurements of man, Jesus' earthly life was a failure; "though He was rich, yet for your sakes, He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich" (2 Cor. 8:9). However, no man can be said to have had a greater influence. "And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him" (Hebrews 5:9)Jesus' life was spent doing nothing but contributing to the most significant business the world has ever known...His Father's! It took a long time, but I eventually came to appreciate and understand the importance of dedicating my life's work to God. Today, I happily work for both of my fathers-my earthly father and my Heavenly Father. It is a business I would not trade for anything. Looking back, I see now that in the moments where I thought we had nothing, we truly possessed everything. My father knew. It was his business to know, and nothing could beat it out of him. This is my story of picking up his business.

Book excerpt: The first-person account of the family that changed the American retail landscape that Dave Ramsey calls a must-read. Longtime Dollar General CEO Cal Turner, Jr. shares his extraordinary life as heir to the company founded by his father, Cal Turner, Sr., and his grandfather, a dirt farmer turned Depression-era entrepreneur. Cal's narrative is at its heart a father-son story, from his childhood in Scottsville, Kentucky, where business and family were one, to the triumph of reaching the Fortune 300 -- at the cost of risking that very father/son relationship. Cal shares how the small-town values with which he was raised helped him guide Dollar General from family enterprise to national powerhouse. Chronicling three generations of a successful family with very different leadership styles, Cal Jr. shares a wealth of wisdom from a lifetime on the entrepreneurial front lines. He shows how his grandfather turned a third-grade education into an asset for success. He reveals how his driven father hatched the game-changing dollar price point strategy and why it worked. And he explains how he found his own leadership style when he took his place at the helm -- values-based, people-oriented, and pragmatic. Cal's story provides a riveting look at the family love and drama behind Dollar General's spectacular rise, pays homage to the working-class people whose no-frills needs helped determine its rock-bottom prices, and shares the life and lessons of one of America's most compelling business leaders.

Book My Father s Business

Download or read book My Father s Business written by Eddie Jones and published by . This book was released on 2024-05-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean to find God's will for your life? How can you know your calling. . . your destiny? When we say, "Lord, Your will be done," we are asking God to place His deepest yearnings into our hearts and alter the circumstances of our lives. In My Father's Business, you will see how others responded to God's yearning for passionate living and enjoyed his blessings and promises. Enjoy inspirational stories about General George S. Patton, Bruce Wilkerson, Jim Valvano, Walt Disney, Mother Teresa, Abraham Lincoln, Colonel Sanders, Jeremy Lin, and others. The word discernment comes from two Latin words: discernere (to perceive) and discretis (to separate). To discern God's voice and will is to engage in an intimate conversation with the Creator of all things. God sees beyond our past and knows our secret desires, even those desires we do not yet know exist. In My Father's Business, you will see how others responded to the yearning God placed within their heart and enjoyed their Father's blessing. As you read these short stories, ask: Will my current course of action use my gifts, talents, and passions? How has my previous experience prepared me for the task ahead? Will this new opportunity cause me to be more loving, kind, and compassionate? Will I be forced to trust God more? Is this an expansion of my influence for God? Who benefits from my actions more than me? What will it cost me and my family? Is this a time-sensitive opportunity? The stories in this short book illustrate how others have heard God's call and heeded His voice. Our prayer is that you will learn to recognize the whisper of Jesus and both discern and do His Father's will.

Book Family Business

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A touching look into the heart and family of one of America's greatest poets. As a literary portrait of a father and son, little can match the eloquence and honesty of this collection of letters, written between Allen Ginsberg and his father, Louis, spanning the years 1944 to 1976. Their correspondence is filled with affection, respect, and a healthy dose of argumentative zeal-they debate every major political and artistic issue that faced America in over three decades of extraordinary change. But the letters also tell of a strong bond of intimacy and affection between the two, revealing just how crucial that closeness was to the development of Allen Ginsberg's art.

Book About My Father s Business

Download or read book About My Father s Business written by Lillian Beckwith and published by Pan Macmillan. This book was released on 2012-04-05 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lillian Beckwith takes us back to her childhood; to the years before the Second World War, when her father ran a small grocer’s shop in a Cheshire town. It was typical of so many corner shops – the shops that are now more and more becoming just a memory, overwhelmed by redevelopment and the march of the supermarket. The corner shop where customers were known, often friends, people, not just faces at a checkout point, where shopping was gossipy, unhurried. A shop full of remembered smells of childhood: soft soap, aniseed balls, bacon and tea. A shop that is brought to life by the acute, affectionate memories of the little girl who grew up in it.

Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • Pope Francis illuminates the Lord’s Prayer, the most important prayer in all of Christianity, offering readers a guide to living a life of meaning, purpose and strength. In conversation with Father Marco Pozza, a theologian and prison chaplain in Padua, Italy, Pope Francis offers unprecedented insight into Jesus’s most profound words, as he explores the importance of embracing social justice, benevolence, and forgiveness in our hearts and minds. Looking to address the concerns and hopes of today’s men and women, Our Father: Reflections on the Lord’s Prayer is a guide to living a life full of meaning, purpose, and strength. “We need courage to pray the Our Father,” writes Pope Francis, “to truly believe that God is the Father who accompanies us, forgives us, gives us bread, is attentive to all that we ask, clothes us even better than the flowers of the field. To believe is a big risk.” Challenging this doubt and fear, he issues a call to “dare . . . help oneanother to dare.” With excerpts from some of the Pontiff’s most cherished teachings, this beautiful work offers words of encouragement and inspiration for all who are seeking hope and direction in our often tumultuous world.

Book Through My Father s Eyes

Download or read book Through My Father s Eyes written by Franklin Graham and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2018-05-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: USA Today Bestseller List. Many have written about Billy Graham, the evangelist. This is the first book about Billy Graham, the father, written from the perspective of a son who knew him best. As a beloved evangelist and a respected man of God, Billy Graham’s stated purpose in life never wavered: to help people find a personal relationship with God through a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. This was a calling that only increased over time, and Billy embraced it fully throughout his active ministry and beyond. Yet Billy pursued his life’s work, as many men do, amid a similarly significant calling to be a loving husband and father. While most people knew Billy Graham as America’s pastor, Franklin Graham knew him in a different way, as a dad. And while present and future generations will come to their own conclusions about Billy Graham and the legacy that his commitment to Christ has left behind, no one can speak more insightfully or authoritatively on that subject than a son who grew up in the shadow of his father’s life and the examples of his father’s love. This vulnerable book is a look at both Billy Graham the evangelist and Billy Graham the father, and the impact he had on a son who walked in his father’s steps while also becoming his own man, leading ministries around the world, all of it based on the foundational lessons his father taught him. “My father left behind a testimony to God,” says Franklin, “a legacy not buried in a grave but still pointing people to a heaven-bound destiny. The Lord will say to my father, and to all who served Him obediently, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant’ [Matthew 25:21].”

Book I Must Be About My Father s Business

Download or read book I Must Be About My Father s Business written by James A. Twentier and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every living thing is involved in and sustained by three functions: input, process, and output. Likewise, the spiritual growth and maturity of a Christian revolves around these three processes redefined as: - Relationship involves God and man sharing a mutual interaction of love, communication, and trust. - Transformation involves a continuous change of self (our will, mind and emotions) less of my will, mind and limited human love and more of God's will, mind and perfect love. - Dominion involves man using the authority and power available to him, as a son of God, to fulfill God's will and work on earth. Perfect Love -- the Highest Law and Strongest Force There is one key overarching theme that is woven into these three processes that is superior to every theme or subject in the Bible. And that is the perfect love of God. The primary purpose of this book is not to provide an exegesis on the definition of perfect love but to review its cause and effect and affirm that: - It is the only acceptable motive for doing anything for God. "Though I have all spiritual gifts . . . give all my goods to the poor . . . give my body to be burned, and have not love, it is nothing" (1 Cor. 13:1-3). - It is the foundation and driving force for everything that is meaningful and lasting in the Kingdom of God. It is the currency of God's Kingdom. - It is the key element required to produce revival and evangelism with miracles, signs, and church growth like the first century church in the book of Acts, that shook their known world. In this study we will discuss some hindrances that obstruct the growth and flow of God's love in our lives. We will also discuss some of the principles that promote and increase the growth of God's love in our lives. Some of the amazing benefits and results of the perfect love of God flowing and working in our lives include: humility, unity, forgiveness, reconciliation of relationships, love for our neighbor and enemy and especially the brotherhood. Loving God and loving our brother are intricately and indissolubly linked, because we are members of one body. Our love for God (the invisible) is manifest by our love for our brother (the visible): "He who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen." (1 John 4:20)

Download or read book Worship Work written by Neo Ban Seng and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2014-01 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the most pernicious heresy at work in the church world-wide: dualism. The idea that church work is sacred but business and other work in the world is secular is so deeply rooted that only a paradigm shift in thinking and acting can break down this barrier and bridge the gap between Sunday and Monday. Neo Ban Seng has an explosive message in this book-not just that it is OK to work in the world but it is part of our worship of God. But Worship @ Work is not just about liturgy. It covers most of the dimensions of life in the workplace, from sex to ethics. It is a good read but even more. This book could be a transformative influence for men and women in business, trades and homemaking. R. Paul Stevens Professor Emeritus, Marketplace Theology, Regent College Author, Doing God's Business and Work Matters We do not just spend hours at work; over our lifetimes we spend years there. That is too much time wasted if we are not purposefully living for Christ in our workplaces, simply because they are not considered a "spiritual environment." Regardless of your industry, specialty or responsibilities, your true title is "Child of God." Read Worship @ Work to see what your working life looks like through the lens of worshiping God. Neo Ban Seng is a Partner of a Big Four accounting and advisory firm. He worships at The House of Prayer, where he is an elder of the church. In 1994, Ban Seng took a sabbatical for theological studies at Regent College, Vancouver. Thereafter, he returned to his job in the marketplace. Ban Seng's ministry passion is in equipping fellow Christian workers, businessmen and women for faithful living at the workplace.
