Book Our Daily Contacts With Business Classic Reprint

Download or read book Our Daily Contacts With Business Classic Reprint written by Max B. Greenstein and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-22 with total page 794 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Our Daily Contacts With Business The importance and value of elementary business train ing to the students entering upon a commercial course are well recognized. This is strongly evidenced by the adop tion of courses in this subject in many cities and states throughout the country. Depending upon the local needs of the community, these courses are organized into units of one term, one year, and even one year and a half. Where the one-year course is in effect, elementary business training is given in the ninth year of the junior high school, or in the first year of the regular four-year high-school course. Although this text is planned primarily to cover one year's work in the subject, the supervisor can, by careful selection or expansion of top ics, apply it to any of the programs mentioned above, since it has incorporated in it the material found in most courses in elementary business training. Elementary business training lays the groundwork for the specialized training that follows later in the commercial course. It helps the student to discover what aptitudes he has for the various phases of business, and what specialized course in the broad commercial curriculum is best for him. It is also of value to him as a worker in industry, or as a possible employer, and last but not least, elementary busi ness training has a profound significance for every indi vidual in the home and community. Book The Empire of Business Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Empire of Business Classic Reprint written by Andrew Carnegie and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-13 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Empire of Business It is well that young men should begin at the beginning and occupy the most subordinate positions. Many of the leading business men of Pittsburg had a serious responsibility thrust upon them at the very threshold of their career. They were introduced to the broom, and spent the first hours of their business lives sweeping out the office. I notice we have janitors and janitresses now in offices, and our young men unfortunately miss that salutary branch of a business education. But if by chance the professional sweeper is absent any morning the boy who has the genius of the future partner in him will not hesitate to try his hand at the broom. The other day a fond fashionable mother in Michigan asked a young man whether he had ever seen a young lady sweep in a room so grandly as her Priscilla. He said no, he never had, and the mother was gratified beyond measure, but then said he, after a pause, "What I should like to see her do is sweep out a room." Book Daily Life for the Common People of China 1850 to 1950

Download or read book Daily Life for the Common People of China 1850 to 1950 written by Ronald Suleski and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-10-22 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this exciting book, Ronald Suleski introduces daily life for the common people of China in the century from 1850 to 1950. They were semi-literate, yet they have left us written accounts of their hopes, fears, and values. They have left us the hand-written manuscripts (chaoben 抄本) now flooding the antiques markets in China. These documents represent a new and heretofore overlooked category of historical sources. Suleski gives a detailed explanation of the interaction of chaoben with the lives of the people. He offers examples of why they were so important to the poor laboring masses: people wanted horoscopes predicting their future, information about the ghosts causing them headaches, a few written words to help them trade in the rural markets, and many more examples are given. The book contains a special appendix giving the first complete translation into English of a chaoben describing the ghosts and goblins that bedeviled the poor working classes.

Book Garner s Modern American Usage

Download or read book Garner s Modern American Usage written by Bryan Garner and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2009-08-27 with total page 1007 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since first appearing in 1998, Garner's Modern American Usage has established itself as the preeminent guide to the effective use of the English language. Brimming with witty, erudite essays on troublesome words and phrases, this book authoritatively shows how to avoid the countless pitfalls that await unwary writers and speakers whether the issues relate to grammar, punctuation, word choice, or pronunciation. Now in the third edition, readers will find the "Garner's Language-Change Index," which registers where each disputed usage in modern English falls on a five-stage continuum from nonacceptability (to the language community as a whole) to acceptability, giving the book a consistent standard throughout. Garner's Modern American Usage, 3e is the first usage guide ever to incorporate such a language-change index, and the judgments are based both on Garner's own original research in linguistic corpora and on his analysis of hundreds of earlier studies. Another first in this edition is the panel of critical readers: 120-plus commentators who have helped Garner reassess and update the text, so that every page has been improved.
