These have been well stated in the "Foreword to Teachers." But we wish to say a word about the authors and their claims to recognition in the preparation of a work of this kind. Professor Will S. Monroe is at the head of the department of Psychology and the History of Education in the State Normal School at Montclair, New Jersey. For two years he studied geography with the late Professor Friedrich Ratzel at the University of Leipzig, and Professor Peschel Loesche at Jena. He had charge of the geography classes in the training of teachers at the State Normal School at Westfield, Massachusetts, for twelve years; and he is the author of four successful books of travel and several educational works. Miss Anna Buckbee has had wide experience as a teacher, superintendent of schools, and educational lecturer. For fifteen years she has been instructor of Pedagogy in the State Normal School at California, Pennsylvania, where she has had extended experience in the use of the oral or Pestalozzian method in teaching geography to children in the primary grades.
