Book excerpt: Roy S. Tucker left Oklahoma State University in 1941 to enlist in the Army, where he served as Platoon Commander with the 57th Signal Battalion. Roy's unit took part in the invasions at Anzio, Salerno, and Southern France during World War II. Soon after the war ended, Roy went to Washington, DC, to look for a job. He was hired by the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA) to work as a Tractor Driver Instructor in China. Roy and his wife E.J. were married on December 8, 1945. Roy traveled to China in April 1946, with E.J. following about eight months later after her departure was delayed by a longshoremen's strike in San Francisco. The letters E.J. wrote to her mother from China are included in a section of Tractors and Chopsticks. Other sections include correspondence related to the UNRRA Project and numerous photographs taken by Roy. Margo Tucker, daughter of Roy and E.J., was instrumental in getting Roy's book published. Margo graduated from Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska, in 1983 with a major in social psychology. Margo is a Montessori Certified directress, and she has traveled extensively in Western Australia and Europe.

This affords (you and I) supernatural strength that allows and empowers us to overcome, conquer, and transcend any/all physical and negative circumstances (experience) in life, as we continue to faithfully move toward fulfilling our purpose and destiny. To illustrate the validity of my answer to the aforementioned question, I have reflected upon quite a number of my personal assignments (out of the millions of opportunities that God has given me). Additionally, it's no coincidence, that as I am typing this Cover , when the movie HARRIET has just debuted, which reflects the life, sacrifices, service and legacy of HARRIET TUBMAN. She is another great Example of someone who embodied this Same Spirit! Now, as YOU choose to Embrace and keep your eyes on that prize, of fulfilling Your GOD-GIVEN PURPOSE, regardless of your background, past experiences, limitations/struggles, location or circumstances-you (too), can be FREE to be the willing servant that HE created you to BE. ALWAYS A SERVANT, NEVER A SLAVE

After the end of war, as we tried to make our way back home, I was terrified of the Russian soldiers and war prisoners who roamed our countryside. I feared my father would be shot or imprisoned. I listened to women screaming for help while being raped. I endured the sorrow of losing my beloved father, followed by living with my stepmother's cruelty. My agony ended with the happy reunion with my real mother, my sister, Oma my loving grandmother, and family. After WWII ended, my family and I lived behind the "Iron Curtain" in East Germany under the Russian occupation Stalin's "Iron Fist." His communist regime imposed such strict isolation and extreme hunger on us that in June of 1953 the citizens of East Germany waged an unsuccessful uprising to gain freedom from Russia and communism. Finally, in the fall of 1953, when I was eighteen, we escaped to West Germany. These are the memories of my childhood and teen years.
