Download or read book Hello Holland written by Beth Leipholtz and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-11 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hi mama (or dad!). I've been where you are. The darkness, the unknowns, the fear, the uncertainty -- everything that accompanies a hearing loss diagnosis. You may feel all of these things at once. You may ebb and flow between them. Or you may not know what you feel at all. And that is okay. When you are told your child has significant hearing loss, there is no right reaction. Tears may flow, or they may refuse to come. Anger may boil over, or it may fester. Grief can pave the way, or it can be pushed aside. We all process serious, life-altering news differently. My own family received that news on October 18, 2019. In some ways, it feels like a lifetime ago. In others, the pain and emotions are still fresh. Time is funny that way. My goal in sharing my son Cooper's story -- our story, really -- is to show you that you are truly never alone. This journey to Holland (hang in there, I'll get to the relevancy of this) can feel like a lonely one at the beginning. But when you find acceptance, when you open your heart, there is so much beauty to be found along the way.

Download or read book Sock it to em Baby written by Garry Cooper and published by Allen & Unwin. This book was released on 2006-05 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Garry Cooper is a natural and brilliant pilot with a determination for perfection. He expects only perfection from himself and others. Conflict arose many times through his career when he did not experience perfection from the bureaucracy to which he was subjected. On posting to the US Army 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1968, he approached his assignments in the same devoted and determined manner and soon became named a legend' by his American peers. General Julian J. Ewell, the Commander of the 9th Infantry Division, and himself a legend from the Siege of Bastogne during WWII, recommended Cooper for the Medal of Honour and the Distinguished Service Cross. Both these are the US highest awards and, as such, required Australian concurrence before being awarded. As Australia was not allowing its personnel to receive US Awards during the Vietnam Conflict, that concurrence was not forthcoming. Although Australian policy regarding foreign awards has since changed, the government is still preventing Cooper from receiving these high profile awards. The US however, for other actions and without reference to the Australian Government, has awarded Cooper the Silver Star, DFC, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Air Medal and Army Commendation Medal. In contrast, our Government awarded Cooper an imperial DFC which Cooper refers to as his I was there award'. Today, Cooper lives in retirement in Queensland. He has been made an honourary member of the various US Army units by the men whose lives he saved and attends their reunions in the USA. This book is the life story with the emphasis on his experiences in the Vietnam war.

Book excerpt: Stephen D. Chandler, author of "The Story of You," writes about "Across My Silence, "One need not be a passionate conservationist or lover of animals to be charmed by Cooper's admiration of them. The awe he feels in "The Turtles of La Escobilla" for the turtles' unstoppable life force in the face of human cruelty runs deeper than an environmentalist's tantrum. And that, in the end, is the deep place where only poetry can go. Beyond the topical and beyond the political into the eternal. Cooper's poems are all tickets to that deep place."
