Book excerpt: Integrated Global Models of Sustainable Development is a component of Encyclopedia of Technology, Information, and Systems Management Resources in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty one Encyclopedias. In the 21st century the human society is facing the challenge of sustainable development with constraints of global environmental changes. In order to cope with poverty and international per capita income disparity (IPCID), there should be further needs for economic development to provide employment opportunities against “Terrorism and refugees". The coverage in three volumes tires to show a possibility of sustainable development from a global viewpoint by using alternative policy simulations. The chapters are organized so that the readers might understand archived historical trends in global modeling for sustainable development. Starting from global models in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, the updated latest modeling works are also included as far as possible. The chapters deal with roles of integrated global models, scope and methodologies and policy implications. These three volumes are aimed at the following five major target audiences: University and College students Educators, Professional practitioners, Research personnel and Policy analysts, managers, and decision makers and NGOs

Book Integrated Occupational Safety and Health Management

Download or read book Integrated Occupational Safety and Health Management written by Seppo Väyrynen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-27 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maximizing reader insights into a new movement toward leadership approaches that are collaborated and shared, and which views Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and performance excellence within the wider examination of leadership relationships and practices, this book argues that these relationships and processes are so central to the establishment of OSH functioning that studying them warrants a broad, cross-disciplinary, multiple method analysis. Exploring the complexity of leadership by the impact that contexts (e.g., national and organizational culture) may have on leaders, this book discusses the related literature, then moves forward to show how a more comprehensive practical approach to Occupational Safety and Health and performance excellence can function on levels pertaining to events, individuals, groups, and organizations. This book proposes that greater clarity in understanding leadership in Occupational Safety and Health and performance excellence can be developed from addressing two fundamental issues. Firstly, how do subunit inputs and processes combine to produce unit-level outcomes and how does leadership affect this process? Secondly, how do the leaders influence the way that individual-level inputs are combined to produce organizational outputs. In these issues, the alternative methodologies that allow precise measurement of organizational outputs in OSH and performance excellence are reviewed. To help readers navigate through the best practices, each chapter contains Question Guidelines, Exercises and Case studies which illustrate the concepts discussed and which serves to highlight the key evidence demonstrating that collaborative leadership can positively affect individual, group, and organizational level outcomes, including organizational OSH and performance excellence.

Book New Opportunities and Challenges in Occupational Safety and Health Management

Download or read book New Opportunities and Challenges in Occupational Safety and Health Management written by Daniel Podgórski and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-07-08 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global economy and its business environment, and thus the world of work, have recently been influenced by demographic and social changes, globalisation, as well as rapid development and introduction of novel, sophisticated and previously unknown technologies and new business models, especially in the context of the so-called fourth industrial revolution. These changes pose a number of challenges in terms of maintaining and improving occupational safety and health (OSH) management performance, as traditional approaches to OSH management in new working environments may no longer be effective. In view of the above, the overall goal of this book is to present new approaches and methods for improving the effectiveness of OSH management. They are based on state-of-the-art research and are in line with the latest trends and concepts in the field. The book focuses on five thematic areas, which are discussed in respective chapters: 1) Implementing the process approach to OSH management; 2) Improving OSH management systems with fuzzy cognitive maps; 3) Implementing strategic thinking approaches in relation to OSH management; 4) Integrating OSH management within the framework of the CSR concept; 5) Enhancing OSH management processes through the use of smart digital technologies. The methods and solutions discussed may be considered as specific "opportunities" for the improvement to be taken into account in the processes of implementing and maintaining an OSH management system in light of the requirements of the new ISO 45001 standard.

Book Kazakhstan Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan

Download or read book Kazakhstan Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan written by Timur Dadabaev and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-09 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers perspectives from the general public in post-Soviet Central Asia and reconsiders the meaning and the legacy of Soviet administration in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. This study emphasizes that the way in which people in Central Asia reconcile their Soviet past to a great extent refers to the three-fold process of recollecting their everyday experiences, reflecting on their past from the perspective of their post-Soviet present, and re-imagining. These three elements influence memories and lead to selectivity in memory construction. This process also emphasizes the aspects of the Soviet era people choose to recall in positive and negative lights. Ultimately, this book demonstrates how Soviet life has influenced the identity and understanding of self among the population in post-Soviet Central Asian states.

Book Safe Work in the 21st Century

Download or read book Safe Work in the 21st Century written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2000-08-01 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite many advances, 20 American workers die each day as a result of occupational injuries. And occupational safety and health (OSH) is becoming even more complex as workers move away from the long-term, fixed-site, employer relationship. This book looks at worker safety in the changing workplace and the challenge of ensuring a supply of top-notch OSH professionals. Recommendations are addressed to federal and state agencies, OSH organizations, educational institutions, employers, unions, and other stakeholders. The committee reviews trends in workforce demographics, the nature of work in the information age, globalization of work, and the revolution in health care deliveryâ€"exploring the implications for OSH education and training in the decade ahead. The core professions of OSH (occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and occupational medicine and nursing) and key related roles (employee assistance professional, ergonomist, and occupational health psychologist) are profiled-how many people are in the field, where they work, and what they do. The book reviews in detail the education, training, and education grants available to OSH professionals from public and private sources.

Book Jump SDEs and the Study of Their Densities

Download or read book Jump SDEs and the Study of Their Densities written by Arturo Kohatsu-Higa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-08-13 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book deals with a streamlined presentation of Lévy processes and their densities. It is directed at advanced undergraduates who have already completed a basic probability course. Poisson random variables, exponential random variables, and the introduction of Poisson processes are presented first, followed by the introduction of Poisson random measures in a simple case. With these tools the reader proceeds gradually to compound Poisson processes, finite variation Lévy processes and finally one-dimensional stable cases. This step-by-step progression guides the reader into the construction and study of the properties of general Lévy processes with no Brownian component. In particular, in each case the corresponding Poisson random measure, the corresponding stochastic integral, and the corresponding stochastic differential equations (SDEs) are provided. The second part of the book introduces the tools of the integration by parts formula for jump processes in basic settings and first gradually provides the integration by parts formula in finite-dimensional spaces and gives a formula in infinite dimensions. These are then applied to stochastic differential equations in order to determine the existence and some properties of their densities. As examples, instances of the calculations of the Greeks in financial models with jumps are shown. The final chapter is devoted to the Boltzmann equation.
