Our Lady will teach you how to bear the uncertainties of pregnancy and prepare to raise a family without fear. The Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth will help you experience Christ's presence through the child you carry in your own womb. With the gifts of the Holy Spirit revealed here, you will learn to overcome discouragement. The Infant Jesus in the manger will teach you how to prepare interiorly for childbirth. And even Mary Magdalene will come to your aid, revealing to you certain crucial duties you have as a parent, in addition to caring for your baby. Whether you are hoping and praying for the conception of a child or are already expecting, this beautiful book will open your eyes and your heart to the grandeur of God's plan for your family and to the unfathomable love with which He cares for those who trust in Him.

Book Representing Minorities

Download or read book Representing Minorities written by Soumia Boutkhil and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009-01-14 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in this volume include not only the traditional view of what constitutes a minority but also any individual, or group recalcitrant and reluctant, not to say resistant, to the generalized lobotomy operated by the rampant uniformisation of cultures around the world. For in the ruins of “the end of history” and its context of violence and Manichean politics, any opposition to the “general consensus” could be dismissed as anti-historical and atavistic. The objective of the book is precisely to counter such rhetoric and underscore the necessity of cultural diversity and the right to difference. This book contains what can amount to a critical response to the current context of confusion surrounding the postmodern condition that arguably dominates most societies. It stresses the issue of ethics not only in world politics but also in literature and criticism which are the main focus here. In fact, the interest in minority issues is in itself an ethical concern that contributes to give substance to the idea that postmodernity opens the gates for the long-suppressed identities and sensibilities to emerge and demand recognition. This volume intends, therefore, to contribute to the recent ethical turn that seems to take place in scholarship worldwide. Operated mainly by what is referred to as postcolonial studies this shift turned literary criticism and cultural studies into the site where a sense of literature can be envisioned that is not at all universalist, or reflecting the hegemonic temptations of the new world order. It seeks to present a patchwork of minor literatures, in the sense that besides the “major” literatures/languages, there are myriads of minor voices that express dissimilarity oftentimes under the umbrella of those major languages and literatures themselves.

Book Afropolitanism Reboot

Download or read book Afropolitanism Reboot written by Carli Coetzee and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-05-23 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection comprises an original and activist group of contributions on that much maligned figure, the Afropolitan. The contributors do not aim to define or fix the term anew; the reboot is, instead, the beginnings of an activist scholarly agenda in which ‘the Afropolitan’ is reimagined to include the stealthy figure crossing the Mediterranean by boat, and the Somali shopkeeper in a South African township. In their pieces included here, the authors insist on the need to ask questions about the inclusion of such globally mobile Africans in any theorisations of the transnational circuits we call Afropolitan. This collection, from some of the foremost voices on Afropolitanism, invigorates anew the debate, and reboots understandings of who the Afropolitan is, the many places he calls his origin, and the multiple places she comes to call home in the world. The chapters in this book were originally published in the Journal of African Cultural Studies.

Book Femininity Masculinity and Sexuality in Morocco and Hollywood

Download or read book Femininity Masculinity and Sexuality in Morocco and Hollywood written by Osire Glacier and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-19 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first to formulate an ideology of emancipation for women in Morocco. Beginning with constructs of the body, femininity and masculinity, it analyzes the central role played by the sociopolitical writing of sexuality in creating gender hierarchy. The author focuses on Morocco, while drawing parallels with Hollywood cinema, one of the great producers of femininity and masculinity, and conducts an exhaustive examination of constructs of femininity and masculinity in language, social practices, cultural productions and legal texts. The objectives of this project are tripartite: it exposes the dynamics that devalue women’s humanity; it charts the schemas of their sexual, economic and sociopolitical exploitation; and it advances concrete solutions for re-establishing women’s human dignity.

Book The World as a Global Agora

Download or read book The World as a Global Agora written by Soumia Boutkhil and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2009-03-26 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the current postmodern reality where society is no longer viewed as a totality but as a collection of individual interests, public space both as a physical and symbolic space, has no determined contours and the public sphere is likely to take new forms. Yet as a crucial principle of democracy, public space will continue to feed discussions as long as models of participatory democracy represent the guarantor of good governance and the preservation of the public good. Ranging from architecture, sociology, to literary criticism and women and gender studies, the essays that compose this collection have as a common denominator the idea of public space as a vital aspect of public life in modern as well as in developing and traditional societies. Placing themselves beyond the relentless theoretical debates around the concept of public space, the authors agree that no matter what forms it takes, public space remains a fundamental aspect of even those societies that until recently were viewed as hermetically sealed. What emerges from the different perspectives included in this book is a general consensus that the symbolic value of the physical public space is grounded in the collective socio-political consciousness as the basis for a general sense of civic action.

Book The Personal and the Political

Download or read book The Personal and the Political written by Charles de Secondat baron de Montesquieu and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2008 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Personal and the Political presents three fables written by social commentator and political thinker Charles-Louis de Secondat, Baron de La Brede et de Montesquieu: The Temple of Cnidus (on eros and justice), Lysimachus (on philosophy and imperial ambition), and Dialogue de Sylla et d'Eucrate (on the limits of political ambition). This work is author W.B. Allen's response to attempts that collapse Montesquieu's analysis of modern political philosophy into a general discussion of virtue and morality by raising anew the issues of true and false happiness and pleasures. Allen maintains that Montesquieu's fables demonstrate the continuing relevance of the issue of philosophical morality, and offer a reconciliation of the tension between philosophical morality and political morality. The Personal and the Political provides a translation of each fable (with parallel French text), a brief introduction and commentaries to develop the context in which each is written and the situations that they address. Each fable is suited to introduce Montesquieu's conceptions of ancient virtues and vices, and what they contribute to modern sensibilities.

Book Les Oeuvres Choisies de George Sand The Selected Works of George Sand

Download or read book Les Oeuvres Choisies de George Sand The Selected Works of George Sand written by George Sand and published by Library of Alexandria. This book was released on with total page 19633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Letter in the Bottle

Download or read book The Letter in the Bottle written by Karen Liebreich and published by Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2015-01-01 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On a winter's day in 2002, a bottle shaped like a tear washed up on the Kent coast. It contained a letter written in French, a lock of hair, and a mystery. Only one thing could be known for certain—that the writer of the letter was a mother, grieving for her lost child, Maurice. Moved by the woman's heartache, Karen Liebreich sets out on an epic journey to piece together the mother's story. Her book is the amazing true story of one woman's search for another, and a poignant reflection on love, loss, and motherhood. In this revised edition Liebreich concludes her epic quest, finally meeting the woman who sent the bottle years before, and coming to understand the loss that was at the heart of one mother's impulse to communicate with the unknown.
