Book Vortex Dominated Flows

Download or read book Vortex Dominated Flows written by Lu Ting and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Honoring the contributions of one of the field''s leading experts, Lu Ting, this indispensable volume contains important new results at the cutting edge of research. A wide variety of significant new analytical and numerical results in critical areas are presented, including point vortex dynamics, superconductor vortices, cavity flows, vortex breakdown, shock/vortex interaction, wake flows, magneto-hydrodynamics, rotary wake flows, and hypersonic vortex phenomena. The book will be invaluable for those interested in the state of the art of vortex dominated flows, both from a theoretical and applied perspective. Professor Lu Ting and Joe Keller have worked together for over 40 years. In their first joint work entitled OC Periodic vibrations of systems governed by nonlinear partial differential equationsOCO, perturbation analysis and bifurcation theory were used to determine the frequencies and modes of vibration of various physical systems. The novelty was the application to partial differential equations of methods which, previously, had been used almost exclusively on ordinary differential equations. Professsor Lu Ting is an expert in both fluid dynamics and the use of matched asymptotic expansions. His physical insight into fluid flows has led the way to finding the appropriate mathematical simplications used in the solutions to many difficult flow problems."

Book On Vortex Breakdown and Instability

Download or read book On Vortex Breakdown and Instability written by S. N. Singh and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A literature survey on the vortex breakdown phenomenon is presented. Several theoretical and numerical models which have been proposed and applied to explain the experimental observations concerning vortex bursting are reviewed. Required parameters to perform the related stability analysis have been identified. Appropriate criteria where possible are cited to assist engineers in estimating occurrence of vortext bursting. A numerical scheme to compute and verify some of the results for incompressible inviscid unstable modes is programmed on the computer at WPAFB. It is suggested that the influence of adverse pressure gradient on the vortex breakdown be investigated in detail and results thus obtained be compared with experiments under appropriate conditions.

Download or read book Flow Induced Vibrations written by Eduard Naudascher and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2012-03-27 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite their variety, the vibration phenomena from many different engineering fields can be classified into a relatively few basic excitation mechanisms. The classification enables engineers to identify all possible sources of excitation in a given system and to assess potential dangers. This graduate-level text presents a synthesis of research results and practical experience from disparate fields in the form of engineering guidelines. It is particularly geared toward assessing the possible sources of excitation in a flow system, in identifying the actual danger spots, and in finding appropriate remedial measures or cures. Flow-induced vibrations are presented in terms of their basic elements: body oscillators, fluid oscillators, and sources of excitation. By stressing these basic elements, the authors provide a basis for the transfer of knowledge from one system to another, as well as from one engineering field to another. In this manner, well-known theories on cylinders in cross-flow or well-executed solutions from the field of wind engineering--to name just two examples--may be useful in other systems or fields on which information is scarce. The unified approach is broad enough to permit treatment of the major excitation mechanism, yet simple enough to be of practical use.

Book Use of Strained Coordinate Perturbation Method in Transonic Aeroelestic Computations

Download or read book Use of Strained Coordinate Perturbation Method in Transonic Aeroelestic Computations written by P. Guruswamy and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Key parameters have been identified which permit correlation of vortex flow simulations in a water tunnel with wind tunnel and flight data. Vortex generation, vortex sheet and core location, and a vortex strength on thin slender wings are accurately represented in a water tunnel due to the insensitivity of separation point location to changes in Reynolds number. The fact that theoretical methods which ignore viscous effects can reasonably predict vortex flow aerodynamics is one indication of the Reynolds number insensitivity of these flow phenomena. For wings and bodies where separation point varies with Reynolds number, the fundamental vortex structure is similar regardless of Reynolds number value since vortices at a distance from the generating surfaces are embedded in essentially irrotational flow. External pressure gradient is an important parameter affecting vortex stability and, although there is yet no theoretical verification that this parameter is the dominant one, vortex burst at higher angles of attack for a given configuration occurs at comparable positions in water tunnels as in wind tunnels and flight. A water tunnel is a powerful diagnostic tool capable of providing high-quality flow visualization of complex fluid flows and insight into the phenomenological aspects of vortex generation, interactions between multiple vortices and aerodynamic surfaces and vortex burst.

Book Theory of Concentrated Vortices

Download or read book Theory of Concentrated Vortices written by S. V. Alekseenko and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-08-29 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents comprehensive and authoritative coverage of the wide field of concentrated vortices observed in nature and technique. The methods for research of their kinematics and dynamics are considered. Special attention is paid to the flows with helical symmetry. The authors have described models of vortex structures used for interpretation of experimental data which serve as a ground for development of theoretical and numerical approaches to vortex investigation.
