Book excerpt: Excerpt from On Mankind: Their Origin and Destiny In ancient times this was not the case, as will presently be shown. Theology was based upon such science as existed at that time, and Science and Theology were consequently in harmony with each other. This harmony has long ceased to exist in consequence of the rapid progress which Science has made, while Theology has remained unchanged. One great cause of this has been that adherence to the literal interpretation of the Scriptures which has prevailed for more than a thousand years to the exclusion of every other, although St. Jerome has said The most difficult and Obscure of the holy books contain as many secrets as they do words: that is to say too little: they conceal many things under each word. Several learned works have been written to explain the secret, that is the real, meaning Of these books, and this volume contains a brief abstract Of the most impor tant of these, which are wholly unknown to English readers, combined with much original matter and information from other sources. Book Deep Truth

    Book Details:
  • Author : Gregg Braden
  • Publisher : Hay House, Inc
  • Release : 2012-10-15
  • ISBN : 1401929222
  • Pages : 309 pages

Download or read book Deep Truth written by Gregg Braden and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2012-10-15 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Crisis:Best-selling author and visionary scientist Gregg Braden suggests that the hottest topics that divide us as families, cultures, and nations-seemingly disparate issues such as war, terrorism, abortion, genocide, poverty, economic collapse, climate change, and nuclear threats-are actually related. They all stem from a worldview based upon the false assumptions of an incomplete science. The History:The obsolete beliefs of our modern worldview have brought us to the brink of disaster and the loss of all that we cherish as a civilization. Our reluctance to accept new discoveries about our relationship to the earth, one another, and our ancient past keeps us locked into the thinking that has led to the crises threatening our lives today. The Facts:The scientific method allows for, and expects, new information to be revealed and assimilated into our existing beliefs. It's the updating of scientific knowledge with the new facts from new discoveries that is the key to keeping science honest, current, and meaningful. To continue teaching science that is not supported by the new discoveries-ones based upon accepted scientific methods-is not, in fact, scientific. But this is precisely what we see happening in traditional textbooks, classrooms, and mainstream media today. The Opportunity:Explore for yourself the discoveries that change 150 years of scientific beliefs, yet are still not reflected in mainstream thinking, including:• Evidence of advanced, near-ice age civilizations• The origin of, and reasons for, war in our ancient past, and why it may become obsolete in our time• The false assumptions of human evolution and of the Darwinian theory "Let the strongest live and the weakest die" and how this plays out in corporations, societies, warfare, and civilization todayDeep Truth reveals new discoveries that change the way we think about everything from our personal relationships to civilization itself. When the facts become clear, our choices become obvious.

Book Race and Manifest Destiny

    Book Details:
  • Author : Reginald HORSMAN
  • Publisher : Harvard University Press
  • Release : 2009-06-30
  • ISBN : 0674038770
  • Pages : 380 pages

Download or read book Race and Manifest Destiny written by Reginald HORSMAN and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-06-30 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American myths about national character tend to overshadow the historical realities. Mr. Horsman's book is the first study to examine the origins of racialism in America and to show that the belief in white American superiority was firmly ensconced in the nation's ideology by 1850. The author deftly chronicles the beginnings and growth of an ideology stressing race, basic stock, and attributes in the blood. He traces how this ideology shifted from the more benign views of the Founding Fathers, which embraced ideas of progress and the spread of republican institutions for all. He finds linkages between the new, racialist ideology in America and the rising European ideas of Anglo-Saxon, Teutonic, and scientific ideologies of the early nineteenth century. Most importantly, however, Horsman demonstrates that it was the merging of the Anglo-Saxon rhetoric with the experience of Americans conquering a continent that created a racialist philosophy. Two generations before the new immigrants began arriving in the late nineteenth century, Americans, in contact with blacks, Indians, and Mexicans, became vociferous racialists. In sum, even before the Civil War, Americans had decided that peoples of large parts of this continent were incapable of creating or sharing in efficient, prosperous, democratic governments, and that American Anglo-Saxons could achieve unprecedented prosperity and power by the outward thrust of their racialism and commercial penetration of other lands. The comparatively benevolent view of the Founders of the Republic had turned into the quite malevolent ideology that other peoples could not be regenerated through the spread of free institutions.
