Book Twist and Tess

Download or read book Twist and Tess written by Miguel A. Gañan and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-20 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a prologue by Tomoko Fuse, the worldwide renowned Japanese origami master, the book contains 26 of my favourite tessellations, along other designs derived from those models (3 boxes and 2 "omiyage/tato). The book starts with an introduction to the origins and history of tessellations and describes the techniques and materials needed by those who want to begin with this kind of origami. The models are sorted based on the twists used in each one and include suggestions based on my own folding experience. For each model, a CP (crease pattern) is included, along with step by step instructions to fold it. Those instructions contain diagrams and their related text. At the end of each model you can see the picture of the finished model (usually in the extended version). Scattered between the different models, the reader can see the original hand drawn diagrams by Alejandra Zapico, that were the base of the final computer drawn diagrams. At the end of the book, there are several appendices, such as a small english-spanish origami dictionary, the symbol guide for those used in the book and several references related to tessellations.

Book Y Origami Explorations in Folding

Download or read book Y Origami Explorations in Folding written by David C. Morgan and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When origami met the worlds of design and engineering, both fields embraced the ancient art form, using its principles and practices to discover new problems and to generate inventive solutions. This book demonstrates the potential of folding to improve the way things work, simplify how products are produced, and make possible new objects otherwise impossible. The solar collector, the felt stool, and the surgery tool have all been influenced in some way by folding paper. The example section is organized to show the folded figure next to the product prototype that was inspired by that work of origami. We have included models made from an array of materials over a range of sizes. This includes everything from a microscopic mechanism to huge solar panels designed to unfold in outer space. Most entries are at the prototype phase—meaning that physical hardware has been built to demonstrate the concept, but that the examples are not necessarily available commercially. Y Origami? also includes brief learning activities related to paper folding, such as a discussion of Euler's formula, angular measurements, and developable surfaces, along with more advanced topics. Throughout the book many diagrams and photographs illustrate the advancing concepts and methods of origami as an art form and a problem-solving strategy.

Book Mind Blowing Modular Origami

Download or read book Mind Blowing Modular Origami written by Byriah Loper and published by Tuttle Publishing. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modular origami is the latest craze in paper folding! These three-dimensional models are created from a number of small pieces of paper that are easily folded and then cleverly fit together to form a spectacular shape. They range from paper polyhedra to bristling buckyballs that are reminiscent of sea urchins—to ornate flower-like spheres. Each piece of paper is held by the tension of the other papers—demonstrating the remarkable hidden properties of paper, which is at the same time flexible but also strong! Author Byriah Loper has been creating modular origami sculptures for just five years, but in that time, he's pushed the upper limits of the art form with some of the largest, most complex geometric paper constructions ever assembled. While many geo-modular origami artists focus on creating dense floral spheres, Byriah has pioneered the open, linear "wire frame" approach, which results in a very complex-looking model that reveals the interior of its form. He exhibits his sculptures annually at the Origami USA convention in New York, and was recently a featured artist at the "Surface to Structure" exhibition at the Cooper Union gallery in the East Village. A great way to learn origami, the easy-to-follow diagrams and step-by-step instructions in this book show you how to fold the paper components and then assemble them to create 22 incredible models. Each model is a new challenge, and the paper sculptures you create look fantastic on your desk or shelf!

Book Design Techniques for Origami Tessellations

Download or read book Design Techniques for Origami Tessellations written by Yohei Yamamoto and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-11-09 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design Techniques for Origami Tessellations is both a collection of origami tessellations and a manual to design them. This book begins by explaining general design methods, the history and definitions of origami tessellations, and the geometric features of flat origami, before moving on to introduce a brand-new design method: the "twist-based design method." This method generates base parts that connect "twist patterns” (that can be folded with a twist) without using a lattice. Therefore, it can generate base parts such as regular pentagons, which cannot be generated with more conventional methods, and can generate new origami tessellations connected to them. Features: No proofs or formulas in the text and minimal jargon. Suitable for readers with a roughly middle school to high school level of mathematical background. Web application implementing the method described in this book is available, allowing the readers to design their own patterns.

Book 3D Origami Art

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jun Mitani
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2017-12-19

Download or read book 3D Origami Art written by Jun Mitani and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Easily Create Origami with Curved Folds and Surfaces Origami—making shapes only through folding—reveals a fascinating area of geometry woven with a variety of representations. The world of origami has progressed dramatically since the advent of computer programs to perform the necessary computations for origami design. 3D Origami Art presents the design methods underlying 3D creations derived from computation. It includes numerous photos and design drawings called crease patterns, which are available for download on the author’s website. Through the book’s clear figures and descriptions, readers can easily create geometric 3D structures out of a set of lines and curves drawn on a 2D plane. The author uses various shapes of sheets such as rectangles and regular polygons, instead of square paper, to create the origami. Many of the origami creations have a 3D structure composed of curved surfaces, and some of them have complicated forms. However, the background theory underlying all the creations is very simple. The author shows how different origami forms are designed from a common theory.
