Book The Project Oversight Guide

Download or read book The Project Oversight Guide written by Herbert Marshall Jr. and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2022-01-15 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether you are a project manager tasked with overseeing an outsourced capital project or an owner investing in a major project critical to the future of your business, you are most likely starting at a disadvantage. A savvy contractor's project team is likely to be populated with project management professionals who have read an abundance of literature on how to maximize project value for themselves. Unfortunately, as any book search will show you, there is virtually no guidance out there for how to successfully oversee a capital project from an owner's perspective. In project management terms, the client or owner is just a "managed external stakeholder." The book is intended to bridge the gap between knowing how to run a project and knowing how to oversee one. Readers of the POG will find out that project oversight and project management are uniquely different disciplines. Bad project oversight can make an otherwise good project fail, whereas good oversight can lead a substandard project team or contractor to succeed in delivering the expected return on investment. Did you know that, when done right, project oversight more than pays for itself? By reading the POG, students of project management, project management professionals, and owners will gain insight into all facets of the oversight of capital projects, including tools and techniques, organizational design, best practices, behaviors, and processes. The POG packages this information in an examples-based look-see at real situations and lessons learned from the field. WORDS OF PRAISE and REVIEWS The Project Oversight Guide is a much needed and significant addition to project management literature. Well done! --Robert Brese, Former CIO, Department of Energy The framework in The Project Oversight Guide drives project performance to a "win-win" outcomes for owners and contractors! --Kelly Powers, President, Williams Industrial Services If you read this book, it will surely improve the prospects for your capital projects ending in a more predictable and successful outcome. --Cliff Eubanks, 36-year Oversight Senior Executive

Book Government Accountability and Legislative Oversight

Download or read book Government Accountability and Legislative Oversight written by Riccardo Pelizzo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-11-12 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the book is to investigate parliaments’ capacity to oversee government activities, policies and budget legislation. By analysing the survey data that the World Bank Institute in collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Union collected from 120 parliaments, Pelizzo and Stapenhurst show what tools are available to parliaments worldwide, which tools are more or less common, how oversight capacity can be estimated, how oversight capacity is related to other institutional and constitutional factors. In addition to discussing the conditions under which oversight capacity is greater, the authors perform some analyses to assess the policy implications of oversight capacity. Specifically, they look at the impact of oversight capacity on the quality of democracy and on the level of good governance.

Book Congressional Oversight

Download or read book Congressional Oversight written by Martin O. James and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2002 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout history congress has engaged in oversight of the executive branch -- the review, monitoring and supervision of the implementation of public policy. The first several Congresses inaugurated important oversight techniques as special investigations, reporting requirements, resolutions of inquiry, and use of the appropriations process to review executive activity. Contemporary developments, moreover, have increased the legislature's capacity and capabilities to check on and check the Executive. Public laws and congressional rules have measurably enhanced Congress's implied power under the Constitution to conduct oversight. Despite its lengthy heritage, oversight was not given explicit recognition in public law until enactment of the Legislative Reorganisation Act of 1946. That act required House and a Senate standing committees to exercise 'continuous watchfulness' over programs and agencies within their jurisdiction. Since the late 1960s Congress has shown increasing interest in oversight for several major reasons. These include the expansion in number and complexity of federal programs and agencies; increase in expenditures and personnel, including contract employees; rise (until recently) in the budget deficit; and the frequency divided government, with Congress and the White House controlled by different parties. Major partisan disagreements over priorities and processes also heighten conflict between the legislature and the executive. Oversight occurs in virtually any congressional activity and through a wide variety of channels, organisations, and structures. These range from formal committee hearings to informal Member contracts with executive officials, from staff studies to support agency reviews, and from casework conducted by Member offices to studies prepared by non-congressional entities, such as statutory commissions and offices of inspector general.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Institute of Medicine study Crossing the Quality Chasm (2001) recommended that an interdisciplinary summit be held to further reform of health professions education in order to enhance quality and patient safety. Health Professions Education: A Bridge to Quality is the follow up to that summit, held in June 2002, where 150 participants across disciplines and occupations developed ideas about how to integrate a core set of competencies into health professions education. These core competencies include patient-centered care, interdisciplinary teams, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and informatics. This book recommends a mix of approaches to health education improvement, including those related to oversight processes, the training environment, research, public reporting, and leadership. Educators, administrators, and health professionals can use this book to help achieve an approach to education that better prepares clinicians to meet both the needs of patients and the requirements of a changing health care system.

Book Corporate Governance Board Oversight and CEO Turnover

Download or read book Corporate Governance Board Oversight and CEO Turnover written by Volker Laux and published by Now Publishers. This book was released on 2014-10-06 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the primary roles of corporate boards is to control the processes by which top executives are assessed and if necessary replaced. CEO turnover cannot be viewed in isolation because it affects the behavior of the involved players and hence interacts with other organizational goals. This monograph seeks to synthesize recent research that analyzes these interactions. I focus on a number of recurring themes, including the implications of CEO assessment and replacement on optimal contracting, board monitoring, project selection, financial reporting, and CEO selection.
