Book Distributed Autonomous Robotic Systems

Download or read book Distributed Autonomous Robotic Systems written by Alcherio Martinoli and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-09-05 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Distributed robotics is a rapidly growing, interdisciplinary research area lying at the intersection of computer science, communication and control systems, and electrical and mechanical engineering. The goal of the Symposium on Distributed Autonomous Robotic Systems (DARS) is to exchange and stimulate research ideas to realize advanced distributed robotic systems. This volume of proceedings includes 43 original contributions presented at the Tenth International Symposium on Distributed Autonomous Robotic Systems (DARS 2010), which was held in November 2010 at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. The selected papers in this volume are authored by leading researchers from Asia, Europa, and the Americas, thereby providing a broad coverage and perspective of the state-of-the-art technologies, algorithms, system architectures, and applications in distributed robotic systems. The book is organized into four parts, each representing one critical and long-term research thrust in the multi-robot community: distributed sensing (Part I); localization, navigation, and formations (Part II); coordination algorithms and formal methods (Part III); modularity, distributed manipulation, and platforms (Part IV).

Book Integrated Earthquake Simulation

Download or read book Integrated Earthquake Simulation written by M. Hori and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-26 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated earthquake simulation (IES) is a new method for evaluating earthquake hazards and disasters induced in cities and urban areas. It utilises a sequence of numerical simulations of such aspects as earthquake wave propagation, ground motion amplification, structural seismic response, and mass evacuation. This book covers the basics of numerical analysis methods of solving wave equations, analyzing structural responses, and developing agent models for mass evaluation, which are implemented in IES. IES makes use of Monte-Carlo simulation, which takes account of the effects of uncertainties related to earthquake scenarios and the modeling of structures both above and below ground, and facilitates a better estimate of overall earthquake and disaster hazard. It also presents the recent achievement of enhancing IES with high-performance computing capability that can make use of automated models which employ various numerical analysis methods. Detailed examples of IES for the Tokyo Metropolis Earthquake and the Nankai Trough Earthquake are given, which use large scale analysis models of actual cities and urban areas.

The authors give detailed explanations of the techniques used to map and monitor the built and natural environment and how that data, collected from a wide range of scales and cost options, is translated into an image or visual experience. It is written in a way that successfully reaches technical, professional, and academic readers alike, particularly geographers, architects, geologists, and planners. FEATURES Includes in-depth discussion on 3D image processing and modeling Focuses on the 3D application of remote sensing, including LiDAR and digital photography acquired by UAS and terrestrial techniques Introduces a broad range of data collection techniques and visualisation methods Includes contributions from outstanding experts and interdisciplinary teams involved in earth sciences Presents an open access chapter about the EU-funded CHERISH Project, detailing the development of a toolkit for the 3D documentation and analysis of the combined coastline shared between Ireland and Wales Intended for those with a background in the technology involved with imaging and mapping, the contributions shared in this book introduce readers to new and emerging 3D imaging tools and programs.

Book Algorithmic Aspects in Information and Management

Download or read book Algorithmic Aspects in Information and Management written by Andrew Goldberg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-06-18 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Algorithmic Aspects in Information Management, AAIM 2009, held in San Francisco, CA, USA, in June 2009. The 25 papers presented together with the abstracts of two invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this book. While the areas of information management and management science are full of algorithmic challenges, the proliferation of data (Internet, biology, finance etc) has called for the design of efficient and scalable algorithms and data structures for their management and processing. This conference is intended for original algorithmic research on immediate applications and/or fundamental problems pertinent to information management and management science, broadly construed. The conference aims at bringing together researchers in Computer Science, Operations Research, Economics, Game Theory, and related disciplines.

  • Pages : 232 pages

Download or read book Orcas of the Gulf written by Gerard Gormley and published by Random House (NY). This book was released on 1990 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A narrative account of the summer migration of an orca pod from continental slope waters into the Gulf of Maine. Although everyone's intentions are undoubtedly the best, Gormley's phenomenological method, vesting the whales (and other ocean animals) with human-like motives and projects actually condescends to its subject and its audience. Book Modeling Simulation and Visual Analysis of Crowds

Download or read book Modeling Simulation and Visual Analysis of Crowds written by Saad Ali and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last several years there has been a growing interest in developing computational methodologies for modeling and analyzing movements and behaviors of ‘crowds' of people. This interest spans several scientific areas that includes Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, and Pedestrian Evacuation Dynamics. Despite the fact that these different scientific fields are trying to model the same physical entity (i.e. a crowd of people), research ideas have evolved independently. As a result each discipline has developed techniques and perspectives that are characteristically their own. The goal of this book is to provide the readers a comprehensive map towards the common goal of better analyzing and synthesizing the pedestrian movement in dense, heterogeneous crowds. The book is organized into different parts that consolidate various aspects of research towards this common goal, namely the modeling, simulation, and visual analysis of crowds. Through this book, readers will see the common ideas and vision as well as the different challenges and techniques, that will stimulate novel approaches to fully grasping “crowds."
