Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kathleen joins her husband for a three-month trip to New Zealand when he’s hired by a film studio in Wellington. Leaving behind all that is familiar in her comfortable corner in Southern California, she realizes that the past twenty years have been so tightly woven into the life of her only daughter that she’s not sure who she is on her own or with her husband. In her isolation, Kathleen begins to contemplate reinventing herself, but before her crazy schemes take flight, she meets Jill at the Chocolate Fish café. Even though the two women are very different at first glance, they find they share a common Sisterchick heart and instantly forge a friendship that takes them on a journey where both Kathleen and Jill find that God has returned to them the truest part of themselves that was set aside so many years ago. Topsy-Turvy Down Under SISTERCHICK TM n.: a friend who shares the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and provides a reality check when you’re being a brat. When Kathleen and her husband, Tony, pack up and fly off to New Zealand for Tony’s three-month film job, Kathleen discovers more than her geography has flip-flopped. In the land down under, comfort food comes in a jar labeled “Vegemite,” gardens sprout hobbit statues, and, if you’re not careful, you just might venture into the Chocolate Fish café with feathers in your hair. Of course, the feathers could open up a conversation with fellow diner Jill, also a California girl and an instant SISTERCHICK. Together they take in a performance at the Sydney Opera House; hold “hands” with a mama kangaroo and greet her in-pocket joey; watch dolphins surf the New Zealand waves; and discover that, in a topsy-turvy land where “Bob’s your uncle” is a statement that actually makes sense, one’s heart is likely to fall head over heels into a deeper sense of God’s love. Story Behind the Book “My motivation for the Sisterchicks™ books came from being involved with so many women who get halfway through life and shipwreck their faith or their families in search of themselves. I wanted to write a book that extols faithfulness and shines the light on God’s plan for a woman’s life, which is always more gigantic and more mysterious than she ever first believed. On the edge of my heart sits a constant prayer for the reader who lifts the covers of these books and snuggles in for a cozy read. My prayer is that she will be filled with hope and will come closer than ever to the One who loves to sprinkle His wonders over our days.”

Book excerpt: Out Here Down Under is a collection of documents and papers illuminating the development and character of ancient ‎history as a discipline in the Antipodes. It considers especially the distinctive and extraordinarily ‎popular program, championed by E. A. Judge, of studying classical and biblical corpora together under ‎one discipline, with an emphasis on the interpretation of documentary sources. ‎In twenty chapters, this volume considers such issues as the relationship between British and ‎Antipodean scholarship, the story and legacy of Antipodean scholars of the ancient world, the ‎nature and ideology of ancient history programs at schools and universities (especially in NSW ‎and at Macquarie), the interaction between biblical and classical disciplines, and the function of ‎history in contemporary Australia. These texts, mostly written by Judge himself throughout his career, appear here with new introductory notes outlining their historical significance for the discipline and Judge’s own practice.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Richard Rezendes wrote a book on a laser printer about thirty-five years ago, and he worked on this book for more than a year. He typed in on an old Apple desktop computer then on a laser printer. His biggest dream is that one day, he would like to publish a book. He got the idea on a magazine about a story about an asteroid that struck in Connecticut and fragments were found. The story led to earthquakes in Moodus, Connecticut. That may have been caused by water flowing through limestone, and Native Indians believed it was the devil! He thought of writing a book about it and named it Ground of the Devil. This story is about a comet that hit Moodus, Connecticut, and a creature living underground for several months before it went on its attack, and it killed people and animals, and it had magical powers. The creature looked like a huge porcupine with pricks all over it! By the way, this creature is a female with large breasts. It sprays fire like a dragon. It has a large tail and a powerful stinger. It has lobsterlike claws like a scorpion and feet like an elephant. Richard Rezendes worked at Brown University and the east Greenwich school department before retiring at age sixty-two. He will be sixty-five years old on Monday, August twentieth. He likes sports, football, basketball, and baseball, in that order. He is a bowler tenpins and currently holds a 220 average. He is five feet, eight inches, 166 pounds, and he is pretty healthy.

An exquisite mystery novel. But this is a novel of dystopia and apocalypse; the mystery concerns the tragic flaws of human nature." —Library Journal (starred review) "Brilliant. . . . An ingenious interpretation of social woes." —Booklist (starred review) "Yamashita handles her eccentrics and the setting of their adventures with panache. David Foster Wallace meets Gabriel Garcia Marquez." —Publishers Weekly Irreverently juggling magical realism, film noir, hip hop, and chicanismo, Tropic of Orange takes place in a Los Angeles where the homeless, gangsters, infant organ entrepreneurs, and Hollywood collide on a stretch of the Harbor Freeway. Hemmed in by wildfires, it's a symphony conducted from an overpass, grandiose, comic, and as diverse as the city itself. Karen Tei Yamashita is the author of Through the Arc of the Rain Forest, Brazil-Maru, Tropic of Orange, Circle K Cycles, I Hotel, and Anime Wong, all published by Coffee House Press. I Hotel was selected as a finalist for the National Book Award and awarded the California Book Award, the American Book Award, the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association Award, and the Association for Asian American Studies Book Award.

Andrew Lang (1844 – 1912) was a Scots poet, novelist and literary critic, with a passion for folkloric storytelling. Most of his volumes (including this, ‘The Orange Fairy Book’) were beautifully illustrated by Henry J. Ford (1860 – 1941), an inordinately talented artist who came to public attention with his illustrations for Lang. The books captured the imagination of British children and later became worldwide bestsellers in the 1880s and 1890s.

Book My Life in Orange

Download or read book My Life in Orange written by Tim Guest and published by HMH. This book was released on 2016-03-01 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A memoir of formative years spent on a series of communes: A “wonderful account of a frankly ghastly childhood . . . Hilarious and heartbreaking” (Daily Mail). At the age of six, Tim Guest was taken by his mother to a commune modeled on the teachings of the notorious Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. The Bhagwan preached an eclectic doctrine of Eastern mysticism, chaotic therapy, and sexual freedom, and enjoyed inhaling laughing gas, preaching from a dentist's chair, and collecting Rolls Royces. Tim and his mother were given Sanskrit names, dressed entirely in orange, and encouraged to surrender themselves into their new family. While his mother worked tirelessly for the cause, Tim—or Yogesh, as he was now called—lived a life of well-meaning but woefully misguided neglect in various communes in England, Oregon, India, and Germany. In 1985 the movement collapsed amid allegations of mass poisonings, attempted murder, and tax evasion, and Yogesh was once again Tim. In this extraordinary memoir, Tim Guest chronicles the heartbreaking experience of being left alone on earth while his mother hunted heaven. “An intelligent, wry, openhearted memoir of surviving a childhood and a cultural phenomenon that were both extraordinary.” —Booklist (starred review)

Book Singularity 1 Book One Orange The March to Space fully revised

Download or read book Singularity 1 Book One Orange The March to Space fully revised written by James E. Jackson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-10-26 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was early September 2193, Earth, Los Angeles. The day was normal, hot and still, with the shimmer of a heat mirage, but today there was one of the vanishingly rare patches of cloud. This could be seen as the harbinger of great things. In this instance, great things with profound consequences certainly followed. There would be death and destruction, joy and sadness, war, disaster, and recovery, and delicious sin. A 1969 Austin Healy Sebring in British Racing Green, its top folded down raced through Beverly Hills along Alpine Drive. It had been purchased by the father of the current owner thirty years earlier, when it was an already pre-owned but lovingly maintained extravagance. It was in showroom condition then, and remained so when he passed it on to his son, who also treated it with the care due a classic car over two hundred years on the road. Parts had been replaced many times, but the car still ran, and could do so on biofuels.
