Book Guidelines for the Design of Double Layer Grids

Download or read book Guidelines for the Design of Double Layer Grids written by Daniel A. Cuoco and published by ASCE Publications. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prepared by the Task Committee on Double-Layer Grids of the Committee on Special Structures of the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE. This report provides guidelines for the design of double-layer grids, a type of space frame. Space frames are three-dimensional, lattice-type structures that provide great rigidity and inherent redundancy. Space frames are one of the more efficient uses of structural materials, and they satisfy demand for large column-free areas. The most common example of a space frame is the double-layer grid, which consists of two parallel layers of top and bottom cords interconnected by inclined and/or vertical web members. This report provides an overview of double-layer grids and discusses their structural behavior. Various methods to analyze these structures?including static analysis, dynamic analysis, thermal analysis, and optimization analysis?are explored. This guide concludes with experimental studies involving double-layer grids and implications for design.

Book Meta heuristic Algorithms for Optimal Design of Real Size Structures

Download or read book Meta heuristic Algorithms for Optimal Design of Real Size Structures written by Ali Kaveh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-10 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contributions in this book discuss large-scale problems like the optimal design of domes, antennas, transmission line towers, barrel vaults and steel frames with different types of limitations such as strength, buckling, displacement and natural frequencies. The authors use a set of definite algorithms for the optimization of all types of structures. They also add a new enhanced version of VPS and information about configuration processes to all chapters. Domes are of special interest to engineers as they enclose a maximum amount of space with a minimum surface and have proven to be very economical in terms of consumption of constructional materials. Antennas and transmission line towers are the one of the most popular structure since these steel lattice towers are inexpensive, strong, light and wind resistant. Architects and engineers choose barrel vaults as viable and often highly suitable forms for covering not only low-cost industrial buildings, warehouses, large-span hangars, indoor sports stadiums, but also large cultural and leisure centers. Steel buildings are preferred in residential as well as commercial buildings due to their high strength and ductility particularly in regions which are prone to earthquakes.

Book Steel Designers Manual

Download or read book Steel Designers Manual written by SCI (Steel Construction Institute) and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-06-27 with total page 1410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2010 the then current European national standards for building and construction were replaced by the EN Eurocodes, a set of pan-European model building codes developed by the European Committee for Standardization. The Eurocodes are a series of 10 European Standards (EN 1990 – EN 1999) that provide a common approach for the design of buildings, other civil engineering works and construction products. The design standards embodied in these Eurocodes will be used for all European public works and are set to become the de-facto standard for the private sector in Europe, with probable adoption in many other countries. This classic manual on structural steelwork design was first published in 1955, since when it has sold many tens of thousands of copies worldwide. For the seventh edition of the Steel Designers' Manual all chapters have been comprehensively reviewed, revised to ensure they reflect current approaches and best practice, and brought in to compliance with EN 1993: Design of Steel Structures (the so-called Eurocode 3).

Book Uncertainty Quantification in Laminated Composites

Download or read book Uncertainty Quantification in Laminated Composites written by Sudip Dey and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-09-19 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last few decades, uncertainty quantification in composite materials and structures has gained a lot of attention from the research community as a result of industrial requirements. This book presents computationally efficient uncertainty quantification schemes following meta-model-based approaches for stochasticity in material and geometric parameters of laminated composite structures. Several metamodels have been studied and comparative results have been presented for different static and dynamic responses. Results for sensitivity analyses are provided for a comprehensive coverage of the relative importance of different material and geometric parameters in the global structural responses.
