Book Freeway Corridor Management

Download or read book Freeway Corridor Management written by Conrad L. Dudek and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1992 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to state and local traffic engineers, transportation planners, transit operators, law enforcement officials, public information agencies, and others responsible for the transportation elements of freeway corridors. Information is provided on the policies and procedures for freeway corridor management, and descriptions of a number of techniques and practices are presented. Traffic growth and increasing congestion on urban freeways require a comprehensive approach toward managing the complex elements of freeway operations. This report of the Transportation Research Board provides information on freeway corridor management strategies, the components of management, examples of effective applications of the strategies, and benefits of freeway corridor management. The management techniques that are discussed include freeway surveillance and control; corridor street surveillance and control; high-occupancy vehicle facilities and incentives; police enforcement and traffic control; hazardous material and other truck traffic restrictions; alternative route planning; motorist assistance patrols; motorist information techniques; and traffic management for recurrent congestion, for incidents, for special events, and for work zones.

Book Traffic Surveillance and Means of Communicating with Drivers

Download or read book Traffic Surveillance and Means of Communicating with Drivers written by Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The operational characteristics of freeways were studied to determine a method of communicating traffic surveillance information to the drivers. The recommended spacing of detection devices to measure speed, volume and/or occupancy data was developed to collect the required information for determining impending traffic congestion. Design criteria for a ramp access advisory signal was established and tested. The operation of an airborne observer in traffic control was also investigated. A general description of air surveillance operations and its equipment and cost are included.

Book Analysis and Projection of Research on Traffic Surveillance Communication and Control

Download or read book Analysis and Projection of Research on Traffic Surveillance Communication and Control written by Karl Moskowitz and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research was conducted to evaluate the state-of-the-art of traffic surveillance, communication, and control, and to set forth guide lines for the determination of rapid-payoff research that could be undertaken through the National Cooperative Highway Research Project and the state highway departments. The method used to determine the recommended program of research was to digest and interpret all pertinent literature, followed by field visits to study the experiments, to arrive at subjective evaluations based on the investigator's traffic engineering experience. The analysis of current research includes freeway control, system control of traffic signals, communication between vehicles, and other traffic systems research.
