Book Structural Optimization

Download or read book Structural Optimization written by Franklin Y. Cheng and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-21 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today’s biggest structural engineering challenge is to design better structures, and a key issue is the need to take an integrated approach which balances control of costs with the requirement for handling earthquakes and other dynamic forces. Structural optimization is based on rigorous mathematical formulation and requires computation algorithms for sizing structural elements and synthesizing systems. Now that the right software and enough computing power are readily available, professionals can now develop a suite of alternative designs and a select suitable one. A thoroughly-written and practical book on structural optimization is long overdue. This solid book comprehensively presents current optimization strategies, illustrated with sufficient examples of the design of elements and systems and presenting descriptions of the process and results. Emphasis is given to dynamic loading, in particular to seismic forces. Researchers and practising engineers will find this book an excellent reference, and advanced undergraduates or graduate students can use it as a resource for structural optimization design.

Book Topology Optimization in Structural and Continuum Mechanics

Download or read book Topology Optimization in Structural and Continuum Mechanics written by George I. N. Rozvany and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-20 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book covers new developments in structural topology optimization. Basic features and limitations of Michell’s truss theory, its extension to a broader class of support conditions, generalizations of truss topology optimization, and Michell continua are reviewed. For elastic bodies, the layout problems in linear elasticity are discussed and the method of relaxation by homogenization is outlined. The classical problem of free material design is shown to be reducible to a locking material problem, even in the multiload case. For structures subjected to dynamic loads, it is explained how they can be designed so that the structural eigenfrequencies of vibration are as far away as possible from a prescribed external excitation frequency (or a band of excitation frequencies) in order to avoid resonance phenomena with high vibration and noise levels. For diffusive and convective transport processes and multiphysics problems, applications of the density method are discussed. In order to take uncertainty in material parameters, geometry, and operating conditions into account, techniques of reliability-based design optimization are introduced and reviewed for their applicability to topology optimization.

Book Optimization And Anti optimization Of Structures Under Uncertainty

Download or read book Optimization And Anti optimization Of Structures Under Uncertainty written by Isaac E Elishakoff and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010-03-08 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume presents a collaboration between internationally recognized experts on anti-optimization and structural optimization, and summarizes various novel ideas, methodologies and results studied over 20 years. The book vividly demonstrates how the concept of uncertainty should be incorporated in a rigorous manner during the process of designing real-world structures. The necessity of anti-optimization approach is first demonstrated, then the anti-optimization techniques are applied to static, dynamic and buckling problems, thus covering the broadest possible set of applications. Finally, anti-optimization is fully utilized by a combination of structural optimization to produce the optimal design considering the worst-case scenario. This is currently the only book that covers the combination of optimization and anti-optimization. It shows how various optimization techniques are used in the novel anti-optimization technique, and how the structural optimization can be exponentially enhanced by incorporating the concept of worst-case scenario, thereby increasing the safety of the structures designed in various fields of engineering./a

Featuring research on topics such as industrial software, geotechnical engineering, and systems optimization, this book is ideally designed for architects, professionals, researchers, engineers, and academicians seeking coverage on advanced designs for use in civil engineering environments.

Book Bionic Optimization in Structural Design

Download or read book Bionic Optimization in Structural Design written by Rolf Steinbuch and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-04 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides suggestions on how to start using bionic optimization methods, including pseudo-code examples of each of the important approaches and outlines of how to improve them. The most efficient methods for accelerating the studies are discussed. These include the selection of size and generations of a study’s parameters, modification of these driving parameters, switching to gradient methods when approaching local maxima, and the use of parallel working hardware. Bionic Optimization means finding the best solution to a problem using methods found in nature. As Evolutionary Strategies and Particle Swarm Optimization seem to be the most important methods for structural optimization, we primarily focus on them. Other methods such as neural nets or ant colonies are more suited to control or process studies, so their basic ideas are outlined in order to motivate readers to start using them. A set of sample applications shows how Bionic Optimization works in practice. From academic studies on simple frames made of rods to earthquake-resistant buildings, readers follow the lessons learned, difficulties encountered and effective strategies for overcoming them. For the problem of tuned mass dampers, which play an important role in dynamic control, changing the goal and restrictions paves the way for Multi-Objective-Optimization. As most structural designers today use commercial software such as FE-Codes or CAE systems with integrated simulation modules, ways of integrating Bionic Optimization into these software packages are outlined and examples of typical systems and typical optimization approaches are presented. The closing section focuses on an overview and outlook on reliable and robust as well as on Multi-Objective-Optimization, including discussions of current and upcoming research topics in the field concerning a unified theory for handling stochastic design processes.

Book Innovative Optimization Method for Structures with Dynamic Loads

Download or read book Innovative Optimization Method for Structures with Dynamic Loads written by Mohsen Besharat and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-12 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimization of large scaled structures under effect of dynamic loads is a difficult task because of very time consuming analysis as a result of high dimension calculation data in every cycle of optimization process. In this book, the Genetic Algorithm method has been used for optimization of a Jacket platform. Dynamic nature of forces that effect on the Jacket platform results in a time consuming analysis and so, a lengthy optimization process. In such cases, approximate analysis is a good solution. Therefore, the wave-net method has been used for approximate analysis. Wave-net method has been modified by combining the Back-Propagation neural network and wavelet theory. Wave-nets have been trained by several training sets. Then, the trained network will be used many times in optimization process. All of the required programs for design optimization process have been prepared in MATLAB software environment. For exact analysis and generating the training sets the ANSYS software has been used. At the end, the capability of the method has been indicated by a numerical example.
