Book Optimization Based Framework for the Classification of Human Emotion in Facial Images

Download or read book Optimization Based Framework for the Classification of Human Emotion in Facial Images written by MR C Agilan and published by Mohammed Abdul Malik. This book was released on 2024-02-13 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People's daily lives are heavily reliant on communication. When humans communicate with one another, they display a variety of emotions. Recognizing emotions is a fascinating and difficult undertaking. Text, speech, facial expressions, gestures, and biological signals can all be used. Affective computing and technology have grown increasingly crucial in understanding human behavior during the last decade. Patient monitoring, driver fatigue detection, robotics, animation, forensics, medical aid, psychology, surveillance, automotive industry, Human-Robot Interaction for children with autism, situation analysis of social interaction, affective computing, feedback during E-Learning, psychology, contests, and entertainment industries have all benefited from emotion recognition research. Many academics have been driven in recent days to construct an innovative and robust generic and application-specific affective computing system in conjunction with Emotion Intelligence. Emotion is a strong, subjective, and changing feeling state that communicates the importance of good or negative stimuli. The physical cause of emotion origin in the human brain must be investigated. Robots are stimulated in the same way since they are supposed to work in an environment and be able to engage with humans on an emotional level. Important variables include social learning, gesture and natural language communication, emotion perception, and synthesis of interacting partners.

Book Human Emotion Recognition from Face Images

Download or read book Human Emotion Recognition from Face Images written by Paramartha Dutta and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-26 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses human emotion recognition from face images using different modalities, highlighting key topics in facial expression recognition, such as the grid formation, distance signature, shape signature, texture signature, feature selection, classifier design, and the combination of signatures to improve emotion recognition. The book explains how six basic human emotions can be recognized in various face images of the same person, as well as those available from benchmark face image databases like CK+, JAFFE, MMI, and MUG. The authors present the concept of signatures for different characteristics such as distance and shape texture, and describe the use of associated stability indices as features, supplementing the feature set with statistical parameters such as range, skewedness, kurtosis, and entropy. In addition, they demonstrate that experiments with such feature choices offer impressive results, and that performance can be further improved by combining the signatures rather than using them individually. There is an increasing demand for emotion recognition in diverse fields, including psychotherapy, biomedicine, and security in government, public and private agencies. This book offers a valuable resource for researchers working in these areas.

Book Automated Facial Emotion Recognition

Download or read book Automated Facial Emotion Recognition written by Xiao Liu and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents two image processing algorithms for facial emotion recognition (FER). The first method uses two pre-processing filters (pre-filters), i.e., brightness and contrast filter and edge extraction filter, combined with Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM). By using optimal pre-filter parameters in the pre-processing of the training images, the classification of FER could reach 98.19\% accuracy using CNN with 3,500 epochs for 3,589 face images from the FER2013 datasets. The second approach introduces two geometrical facial features based on action units -- landmark curvatures and vectorized landmarks. This method first detects facial landmarks and extracts action unit (AU) features. The extracted facial segments based on the action units are classified into five groups and input to a SVM. The presented method show how individual parameters, including detected landmarks, AU group selection, and parameters used in the SVM, can be examined and systematically selected for the optimal performance in FER. The results after parameter optimization showed 98.38\% test accuracy with training using 1,479 labeled frames of Cohn-Kanade (CK+) database, and 98.11\% test accuracy with training using 1,710 labeled frames of Multimedia Understanding Group (MUG) database for 6-emotion classification. This technique also shows the real-time processing speed of 6.67 frames per second (fps) for images with a 640x480 resolution. The novelty of the first approach is combining image processing filters with CNN to enhance CNN performance. As for the second approach, it systematically analyzed the effectiveness of proposed geometric features and implemented FER in real-time. The demonstrated algorithms have been applied on human-robot interaction (HRI) application platform - social robot ``Woody" for testing. The presented algorithms have been made publicly available.

Book Facial Image Based Expression Classification System Using Committee Neural Networks

Download or read book Facial Image Based Expression Classification System Using Committee Neural Networks written by Gayatri Suhas Paknikar and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human communication has two main aspects: verbal (auditory) and non-verbal (visual). Facial expressions, body movements and physiological reactions are the basic units of the non-verbal communication. Facial expressions and related changes in facial patterns give us information about the emotional state of the person. Psychopathology, stress detection, human-computer interface, and terror deterrence etc., are some of the applications of facial expression detection. The goal of this study was to classify different facial expressions of individuals from static facial images from a large database with an improved accuracy over previously presented systems. Two classification approaches were used. First, a parameter based classification system was developed which classified the expressions based on the actual parameter values directly. Evaluation of the parameter based system revealed that it could accurately classify only one expression. In the second approach, the committee neural network system was used to classify seven basic emotion types from facial images. Two types of committees, viz. primary committee and secondary committee were trained and evaluated. Committee performance was better than performance of individual networks. The integrated committee system, which incorporated both primary and secondary committees, accurately classified the expressions in 94.73% of the cases.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human conversational partners are able, at least to a certain extent, to detect the speaker’s or listener’s emotional state and may attempt to respond to it accordingly. When instead one of the interlocutors is a computer a number of questions arise, such as the following: To what extent are dialogue systems able to simulate such behaviors? Can we learn the mechanisms of emotional be- viors from observing and analyzing the behavior of human speakers? How can emotionsbeautomaticallyrecognizedfromauser’smimics, gesturesandspeech? What possibilities does a dialogue system have to express emotions itself? And, very importantly, would emotional system behavior be desirable at all? Given the state of ongoing research into incorporating emotions in dialogue systems we found it timely to organize a Tutorial and Research Workshop on A?ectiveDialogueSystems(ADS2004)atKlosterIrseein GermanyduringJune 14–16, 2004. After two successful ISCA Tutorial and Research Workshops on Multimodal Dialogue Systems at the same location in 1999 and 2002, we felt that a workshop focusing on the role of a?ect in dialogue would be a valuable continuation of the workshop series. Due to its interdisciplinary nature, the workshop attracted submissions from researchers with very di?erent backgrounds and from many di?erent research areas, working on, for example, dialogue processing, speech recognition, speech synthesis, embodied conversational agents, computer graphics, animation, user modelling, tutoring systems, cognitive systems, and human-computer inter- tion.
