Book Resource Allocation in Project Management

Download or read book Resource Allocation in Project Management written by Christoph Schwindt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-11-10 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to structural issues, algorithms, and applications of resource allocation problems in project management. Special emphasis is given to a unifying framework within which a large variety of project scheduling problems can be treated. Those problems involve general temporal constraints among project activities, different types of scarce resources, and a broad class of regular and nonregular objective functions ranging from time-based and financial to resource levelling functions. The diversity of the models proposed allows for covering many features arising in scheduling applications beyond the field of project management such as short-term production planning in the manufacturing or process industries.

Book Network Scheduling Techniques for Construction Project Management

Download or read book Network Scheduling Techniques for Construction Project Management written by M. Hajdu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Industrial, financial, commercial or any kinds of project have at least one common feature: the better organized they are, the higher the profit or the lower the cost. Project management is the principle of planning different projects and keeping them on track within time, cost and resource constraints. The need for effective project management is ever-increasing. The complexity of the environment we live in requires more sophisticated methods than it did just a couple of decades ago. Project managers might face insurmountable obstacles in their work if they do not adapt themselves to the changing circumstances. On the other hand, better knowledge of project management can result in better plans, schedules and, last but not least, more contracts and more profit. This knowledge can help individuals and firms to stay alive in this competitive market and, in the global sense, utilize the finite resources of our planet in a more efficient way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern project management is increasingly important, as it is very well suited for fulfilling today’s demands on companies, especially regarding the efficient cooperation of individuals, as well as the development of a goal- and solution-oriented approach.A project can be understood as a temporary company, since all essential enterprise management functions must be performed in projects as well. The project management approach applied in the present book is a holistic management concept. In addition to project planning and control, it also covers the topics of teamwork, communication, and the organizational integration of projects into companies. This book provides a guideline for performing individual projects, for professionally selecting projects that are vital for company success (project portfolio, program), for improving project management quality, and for consequently focusing company work on the current environmental requirements (project-oriented company). Additionally, numerous practical examples and case-studies of different project types illustrate the implementation of the presented methods.Further relevant aspects of today’s project management approaches, such as projects as business cases, procurement and contract design, virtual teamwork, project management career paths, agile project management, or Stage-Gate approaches are integrated into the actual edition. This book contributes to the further development of project management knowledge, and to the establishment of a professional project manager profile. Requirements on competencies and qualifications of project managers are integrated according to the international IPMA and PMI standards.

Book Optimal Resource Allocation for Projects

Download or read book Optimal Resource Allocation for Projects written by Collin Carbno and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Out of the opportunities available management must decide which ones will be pursued and how many resources will be assigned to each. Usually, these opportunities (projects) are evaluated for economic feasibility, and then the favorable ones pursued. Several questions arise regarding the allocation of available resources to the approved projects: In which order should the projects be done, or should they be done concurrently? How many resources should be assigned to each project? Given the multitude of factors affecting such decisions, one would expect complex formulas to describe the optimal allocation of resources. Contrary to expectations, the formulas describing optimal allocation are intelligible and practical in use.

Book Application of Mathematics and Optimization in Construction Project Management

Download or read book Application of Mathematics and Optimization in Construction Project Management written by Hêriş Golpîra and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-12-12 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a broad overview of project and project management principles, processes, and success/failure factors. It also provides a state of the art of applications of the project management concepts, especially in the field of construction projects, based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). The slate of geographically and professionally diverse authors illustrates project management as a multidisciplinary undertaking that integrates renewable and non-renewable resources in a systematic process to achieve project goals. The book describes assessment based on technical and operational goals and meeting schedules and budgets.

Book A Sample path Optimization Approach for Optimal Resource Allocation in Stochastic Projects

Download or read book A Sample path Optimization Approach for Optimal Resource Allocation in Stochastic Projects written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this research has been to develop an optimization method that can be utilized to determine optimal resource allocations for projects in an uncertain (stochastic) environment. The project under consideration is modeled as a stochastic activity network (SAN) where the workload requirements for each activity are assumed to be random with some specified distribution. Our concern is the time/cost tradeoff problem where the project manager can affect the duration of each activity in the project by allocating more or less of a scarce resource to the competing activities (at some cost). The objective is therefore to minimize the total expected cost of the project by assigning the resource to the various activities while simultaneously respecting precedence relationships among the activities and constraints on the total resource available. In particular we would like to analyze stochastic projects of reasonable size (>100 activities) and provide an optimization tool that achieves results in sufficiently small amount of time to make its application practical for realistic project management scenarios.
