Book Control and Dynamic Systems V54 System Performance Improvement and Optimization Techniques and Their Applications in Aerospace Systems

Download or read book Control and Dynamic Systems V54 System Performance Improvement and Optimization Techniques and Their Applications in Aerospace Systems written by C.T. Leonides and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control and Dynamic Systems: Advances in Theory and Applications, Volume 54: System Performance Improvement and Optimization Techniques and their Applications in Aerospace Systems covers the issue of aerospace system performance and optimization techniques in aerospace systems. This book is composed of 12 chapters and begins with an examination of the techniques for aircraft conceptual design for mission performance. The succeeding chapters describe the balances and optimized design for aircraft and spacecraft structures through finite element procedures and the application of the knowledge-based system techniques for pilot aiding. These topics are followed by discussions of the optimal sensor placement for on-orbit modal identification experiments; the optimization techniques for helicopter airframe vibrations design; the size reduction techniques for efficient aeroservoelastic model determination; sensitivity analysis of eigendata of aeroelastic systems; and a simplified solution for transient structural dynamic problems with local nonlinearities. Other chapters explore a reduction algorithm for systems with integrators and the techniques for overcoming the difficulty of nonuniqueness of mode shape in modal analysis when random input data are not or cannot be measured. The last chapters consider the combined concepts of Krylov vectors and parameter matching and their application to develop model-reduction algorithms for structural dynamics. These chapters also provide the techniques for the development of new tracking algorithms that would incorporate explicit models of the maneuvering/nonmaneuvering phases of target encounter. This book will prove useful to aerospace, control, systems, and design engineers.

Book Dynamics of Advanced Materials and Smart Structures

Download or read book Dynamics of Advanced Materials and Smart Structures written by Kazumi Watanabe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two key words for mechanical engineering in the future are Micro and Intelligence. It is weIl known that the leadership in the intelligence technology is a marter of vital importance for the future status of industrial society, and thus national research projects for intelligent materials, structures and machines have started not only in advanced countries, but also in developing countries. Materials and structures which have self-sensing, diagnosis and actuating systems, are called intelligent or smart, and are of growing research interest in the world. In this situation, the IUT AM symposium on Dynamics 0/ Advanced Materials and Smart Structures was a timely one. Smart materials and structures are those equipped with sensors and actuators to achieve their designed performance in achanging environment. They have complex structural properties and mechanical responses. Many engineering problems, such as interface and edge phenomena, mechanical and electro-magnetic interaction/coupling and sensing, actuating and control techniques, arise in the development ofintelligent structures. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature ofthese problems, all ofthe classical sciences and technologies, such as applied mathematics, material science, solid and fluid mechanics, control techniques and others must be assembled and used to solve them. IUTAM weIl understands the importance ofthis emerging technology. An IUTAM symposium on Smart Structures and Structronic Systems (Chaired by U.

Book Optimal Sensor actuator Placement and Switching Schemes for Control of Flexible Structures

Download or read book Optimal Sensor actuator Placement and Switching Schemes for Control of Flexible Structures written by Raffaele Potami and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract (Partial): The vibration control problem for flexible structures is examined within the context of overall controller performance and power reduction. First, the issue of optimal sensor and actuator placement is considered along with its associated control robustness aspects. Then the option of alternately activating subsets of the available devices is investigated. Such option is considered in order to better address the effects of spatiotemporally varying disturbances acting on a flexible structure while reducing the overall energy consumption. Towards the solution to the problem of optimal device placement, three different approaches are proposed. First, a computationally efficient scheme for the simultaneous placement of multiple devices is presented. The second approach proposes a strategy for the optimal placement of sensors and collocated sensor/actuator pairs, taking into account the influence of the spatial distribution of disturbances. The third approach provides a solution to the actuator location problem by incorporating considerations with respect to preferred spatial regions within the flexible structure.

Book Smart Helicopter Rotors

Download or read book Smart Helicopter Rotors written by Ranjan Ganguli and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-16 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploiting the properties of piezoelectric materials to minimize vibration in rotor-blade actuators, this book demonstrates the potential of smart helicopter rotors to achieve the smoothness of ride associated with jet-engined, fixed-wing aircraft. Vibration control is effected using the concepts of trailing-edge flaps and active-twist. The authors’ optimization-based approach shows the advantage of multiple trailing-edge flaps and algorithms for full-authority control of dual trailing-edge-flap actuators are presented. Hysteresis nonlinearity in piezoelectric stack actuators is highlighted and compensated by use of another algorithm. The idea of response surfaces provides for optimal placement of trailing-edge flaps. The concept of active twist involves the employment of piezoelectrically induced shear actuation in rotating beams. Shear is then demonstrated for a thin-walled aerofoil-section rotor blade under feedback-control vibration minimization. Active twist is shown to be significant in reducing vibration caused by dynamic stall. The exposition of ideas, materials and algorithms in this monograph is supported by extensive reporting of results from numerical simulations of smart helicopter rotors. This monograph will be a valuable source of reference for researchers and engineers with backgrounds in aerospace, mechanical and electrical engineering interested in smart materials and vibration control. Advances in Industrial Control aims to report and encourage the transfer of technology in control engineering. The rapid development of control technology has an impact on all areas of the control discipline. The series offers an opportunity for researchers to present an extended exposition of new work in all aspects of industrial control.
