This book was released on 2022-04-05 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, a new three-dimensional approach for the process simulation of SMC is developed. This approach takes into account both, the core layer that is dominated by the extensional viscosity and the thin lubrication layer. In order to transfer the information from the process to the structure simulation, a CAE chain is further developed. In addition, a new rheological tool is developed to analyze flow behavior experimentally and to provide the required material parameters.

Book Mesoscale simulation of the mold filling process of Sheet Molding Compound

Download or read book Mesoscale simulation of the mold filling process of Sheet Molding Compound written by Meyer, Nils and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2022-07-12 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sheet Molding Compounds (SMC) are discontinuous fiber reinforced composites that are widely applied due to their ability to realize composite parts with long fibers at low cost. A novel Direct Bundle Simulation (DBS) method is proposed in this work to enable a direct simulation at component scale utilizing the observation that fiber bundles often remain in a bundled configuration during SMC compression molding.

Book Selecting Best Compromises Among Performance Measures During In mold Coating of Sheet Molding Compound Compression Molding Parts

Download or read book Selecting Best Compromises Among Performance Measures During In mold Coating of Sheet Molding Compound Compression Molding Parts written by Seunghyun Ko and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to select the best compromises among performance measures, models to predict both the flow time and cure time are needed. These models are developed using experimental curing information, which in this research is done using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). A multivariable optimization method, based on Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), is used; to identify the region of best compromises or Pareto frontier between flow time and cure time. The method is recursive and uses both design of experiments and metamodels, to increase the number of solutions in or near the Pareto frontier. Examples of how the proposed approach can be used in actual practice are given for commercial coating materials.

This book was released on 2023-06-28 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this work is to model and experimentally characterize the anisotropic material behavior of SMC composites on the macroscale with consideration of the microstructure. Temperature-dependent thermoelastic behavior and failure behavior are modeled and the corresponding material properties are determined experimentally. Additionally, experimental biaxial damage investigations are performed. A parameter identification merges modeling and experiments and validates the models.

Book Processing of Polymer Matrix Composites

Download or read book Processing of Polymer Matrix Composites written by P.K. Mallick and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-10-06 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polymer matrix composites are finding increasing number of applications due to their high weight-saving potential as well as unique characteristics, such as high strength-to-density ratio, fatigue resistance, high damping factor, and freedom from corrosion. While many textbooks are available on the mechanics of polymer matrix composites, few cover their processing.Processing of Polymer Matrix Composites fills this gap. The book focuses on the major manufacturing processes used for polymer matrix composites and describes process details, process parameters and their effects on properties and process-induced defects, and analytical and experimental methods used for understanding process conditions. The book describes fibers, thermosetting and thermoplastic polymers, and interface characteristics that are important from the standpoint of both design and processing. It also emphasizes the applications of process fundamentals for both continuous fiber and short fiber polymer matrix composites. In addition the book considers quality inspection methods, tooling, and manufacturing costs and environmental and safety issues.
