Book Optimal Feedback Control Formulation of the Active Noise Cancellation Problem

Download or read book Optimal Feedback Control Formulation of the Active Noise Cancellation Problem written by K. C. Zangi and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unwanted noise is a by-product of many industrial processes and systems. In active noise cancellation (ANC), one introduces a secondary noise source to generate an acoustic field that interferes destructively with the unwanted noise, and thereby attenuates it. Noise reduction is important to protect listeners in high noise environments from hearing damage, to enhance speech communication, and to reduce noise-induced fatigue. These adverse effects of noise can cause accidents and reduce the productivity of workers. By formulating the ANC problem as an optimal feedback control problem, we developed a single approach for designing stochastically optimal feedback controllers for pointwise and distributed active noise cancellation. In the pointwise case, we develop an optimal feedback controller for attenuating the acoustic pressure at the locations of a finite number of microphones. In the distributed case, we develop an optimal feedback controller for attenuating the total acoustic energy in an enclosure. In either case, the controller is pointwise and is obtained as the output of an ordinary pressure microphone.

Book Modeling Estimation and Optimal Filtration in Signal Processing

Download or read book Modeling Estimation and Optimal Filtration in Signal Processing written by Mohamed Najim and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-01-05 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to provide graduate students and practitioners with traditional methods and more recent results for model-based approaches in signal processing. Firstly, discrete-time linear models such as AR, MA and ARMA models, their properties and their limitations are introduced. In addition, sinusoidal models are addressed. Secondly, estimation approaches based on least squares methods and instrumental variable techniques are presented. Finally, the book deals with optimal filters, i.e. Wiener and Kalman filtering, and adaptive filters such as the RLS, the LMS and their variants.

Book Understanding Active Noise Cancellation

Download or read book Understanding Active Noise Cancellation written by Colin N. Hansen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002-05-03 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding Active Noise Cancellation Provides a concise introduction to the fundamentals and applications of active control of vibration and sound for the non-expert. It is also a useful quick reference for the specialist engineer. The book emphasises the practical applications of technology, and complex control algorithms and structures are only discussed to the extent that they aid understanding. Extensive recommendations for further reading on the subject are provided, but the text will stand alone for those seeking an overview of the key issues: fundamentals, control systems, transducers, applications and possible future directions.

Book Active Vibration Noise Control Design Towards Performance Limit

Download or read book Active Vibration Noise Control Design Towards Performance Limit written by Jiqiang Wang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-22 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is motivated by the pivotal issue: what is the performance limit of active control and energy harvesting? It aims to develop systematic design methodologies with a “visualization technique” where the performance limit can be readily determined solely based on visual inspections. Modern technological systems have evolved toward high speed, heavy load, lightweight, flexible operation and extreme conditions, as demonstrated in aerospace, marine, transportation and manufacturing industries. The associated vibration and noise issues have become such problematic that they may significantly confine the performance of the systems, to say the discomfort at least. Through the geometric representation of the performance specifications, fundamental issues such as (1) the existence of feasible controllers; (2) the optimality of controllers; (3) the performance limit of controllers; (4) compromisability among the performance specifications; (5) the synthesis of controllers; and (6) the influence of constraints on optimal solutions can all be resolved within the proposed framework. The state of the art is thus refined with a new approach complementary to those optimization-based routines, where extra effort would have to be exercised to disclose the compromisability of performance specifications. The proposed book will result in a new design methodology—performance limit-oriented active control. It was initiated by the author with the project “Active Control for Performance Limit” (ACPL). A series of fundamental results are obtained and will be disseminated in this book. The results are verified through extensive numerical demonstrations and are expected to provide useful guidance for practical engineering in the vibration and noise industry and research.

Book Optimization of Acoustic Source Strength in the Problems of Active Noise Control

Download or read book Optimization of Acoustic Source Strength in the Problems of Active Noise Control written by Josip Lončarić and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We consider a problem of eliminating the unwanted time-harmonic noise on a predetermined region of interest. The desired objective is achieved by active means, i.e., by introducing additional sources of sound called control sources, that generate the appropriate annihilating acoustic signal (anti-sound). A general solution for the control sources has been obtained previously in both continuous and discrete formulation of the problem. In the current paper, we focus on optimizing the overall absolute acoustic source strength of the control sources. Mathematically, this amounts to the minimization of multi-variable complex-valued functions in the sense of L1 with conical constraints, which are only 'marginally' convex. The corresponding numerical optimization problem appears very challenging even for the most sophisticated state-of-the-art methodologies, and even when the dimension of the grid is small, and the waves are long. Our central result is that the global L1-optimal solution can, in fact, be obtained without solving the numerical optimization problem. This solution is given by a special layer of monopole sources on the perimeter of the protected region. We provide a rigorous proof of the global L1 minimality for both continuous and discrete optimization problems in the one-dimensional case. We also provide numerical evidence that corroborates our result in the two-dimensional case, when the protected domain is a cylinder. Even though we cannot fully justify it, we believe that the same result holds in the general case, i.e., for multi-dimensional settings and domains of arbitrary shape. We formulate it as a conjecture at the end of the paper.
