Book Formulation and Numerical Solution of Quantum Control Problems

Download or read book Formulation and Numerical Solution of Quantum Control Problems written by Alfio Borzi and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2017-07-06 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to representative nonrelativistic quantum control problems and their theoretical analysis and solution via modern computational techniques. The quantum theory framework is based on the Schr?dinger picture, and the optimization theory, which focuses on functional spaces, is based on the Lagrange formalism. The computational techniques represent recent developments that have resulted from combining modern numerical techniques for quantum evolutionary equations with sophisticated optimization schemes. Both finite and infinite-dimensional models are discussed, including the three-level Lambda system arising in quantum optics, multispin systems in NMR, a charged particle in a well potential, Bose?Einstein condensates, multiparticle spin systems, and multiparticle models in the time-dependent density functional framework. This self-contained book covers the formulation, analysis, and numerical solution of quantum control problems and bridges scientific computing, optimal control and exact controllability, optimization with differential models, and the sciences and engineering that require quantum control methods. ??

Book Control and Optimization with PDE Constraints

Download or read book Control and Optimization with PDE Constraints written by Kristian Bredies and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-12 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many mathematical models of physical, biological and social systems involve partial differential equations (PDEs). The desire to understand and influence these systems naturally leads to considering problems of control and optimization. This book presents important topics in the areas of control of PDEs and of PDE-constrained optimization, covering the full spectrum from analysis to numerical realization and applications. Leading scientists address current topics such as non-smooth optimization, Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellmann equations, issues in optimization and control of stochastic partial differential equations, reduced-order models and domain decomposition, discretization error estimates for optimal control problems, and control of quantum-dynamical systems. These contributions originate from the “International Workshop on Control and Optimization of PDEs” in Mariatrost in October 2011. This book is an excellent resource for students and researchers in control or optimization of differential equations. Readers interested in theory or in numerical algorithms will find this book equally useful.

Book Quantum Interacting Particle Systems

Download or read book Quantum Interacting Particle Systems written by Luigi Accardi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dynamics of infinite classical lattice systems has been considered and has led to the study of the properties of ergodicity and convergence to equilibrium of a new class of Markov semigroups. Quantum analogues of these semigroups have also been considered. However, the problem of deriving these Markovian semigroups and, what is much more interesting, the associated stochastic flows, as limits of Hamiltonian systems, rather than postulating their form on a phenomenological basis, is essentially open both in the classical case and in the quantum case. This book presents a conjecture that, by coupling a quantum spin system in finite volume to a quantum field via a suitable interaction, applying the stochastic golden rule and taking the thermodynamic limit, one may obtain a class of quantum flows which, when restricted to an appropriate Abelian subalgebra, gives rise to the classical interacting particle systems studied in classical statistical mechanics.

Book Trends in PDE Constrained Optimization

Download or read book Trends in PDE Constrained Optimization written by Günter Leugering and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-12-22 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimization problems subject to constraints governed by partial differential equations (PDEs) are among the most challenging problems in the context of industrial, economical and medical applications. Almost the entire range of problems in this field of research was studied and further explored as part of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) priority program 1253 on “Optimization with Partial Differential Equations” from 2006 to 2013. The investigations were motivated by the fascinating potential applications and challenging mathematical problems that arise in the field of PDE constrained optimization. New analytic and algorithmic paradigms have been developed, implemented and validated in the context of real-world applications. In this special volume, contributions from more than fifteen German universities combine the results of this interdisciplinary program with a focus on applied mathematics. The book is divided into five sections on “Constrained Optimization, Identification and Control”, “Shape and Topology Optimization”, “Adaptivity and Model Reduction”, “Discretization: Concepts and Analysis” and “Applications”. Peer-reviewed research articles present the most recent results in the field of PDE constrained optimization and control problems. Informative survey articles give an overview of topics that set sustainable trends for future research. This makes this special volume interesting not only for mathematicians, but also for engineers and for natural and medical scientists working on processes that can be modeled by PDEs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The introduction of control theory in quantum mechanics has created a rich, new interdisciplinary scientific field, which is producing novel insight into important theoretical questions at the heart of quantum physics. Exploring this emerging subject, Introduction to Quantum Control and Dynamics presents the mathematical concepts and fundamental physics behind the analysis and control of quantum dynamics, emphasizing the application of Lie algebra and Lie group theory. To advantage students, instructors and practitioners, and since the field is highly interdisciplinary, this book presents an introduction with all the basic notions in the same place. The field has seen a large development in parallel with the neighboring fields of quantum information, computation and communication. The author has maintained an introductory level to encourage course use. After introducing the basics of quantum mechanics, the book derives a class of models for quantum control systems from fundamental physics. It examines the controllability and observability of quantum systems and the related problem of quantum state determination and measurement. The author also uses Lie group decompositions as tools to analyze dynamics and to design control algorithms. In addition, he describes various other control methods and discusses topics in quantum information theory that include entanglement and entanglement dynamics. Changes to the New Edition: New Chapter 4: Uncontrollable Systems and Dynamical Decomposition New section on quantum control landscapes A brief discussion of the experiments that earned the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physics Corrections and revised concepts are made to improve accuracy Armed with the basics of quantum control and dynamics, readers will invariably use this interdisciplinary knowledge in their mathematics, physics and engineering work.

Book Optimal Control and Forecasting of Complex Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Optimal Control and Forecasting of Complex Dynamical Systems written by Ilya Grigorenko and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important book reviews applications of optimization and optimal control theory to modern problems in physics, nano-science and finance. The theory presented here can be efficiently applied to various problems, such as the determination of the optimal shape of a laser pulse to induce certain excitations in quantum systems, the optimal design of nanostructured materials and devices, or the control of chaotic systems and minimization of the forecast error for a given forecasting model (for example, artificial neural networks). Starting from a brief review of the history of variational calculus, the book discusses optimal control theory and global optimization using modern numerical techniques. Key elements of chaos theory and basics of fractional derivatives, which are useful in control and forecast of complex dynamical systems, are presented. The coverage includes several interdisciplinary problems to demonstrate the efficiency of the presented algorithms, and different methods of forecasting complex dynamics are discussed.

Book Optimal Control and Forecasting of Complex Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Optimal Control and Forecasting of Complex Dynamical Systems written by Ilya Grigorenko and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The core of classical economic analysis represented by William Petty and Adam Smith concentrated on the field of development economics. This classical footing of the study of development is different from the neoclassical perspective in two important respects: it focuses on division of labor as the driving force of development, and it emphasizes the role of the market (the "invisible hand") in exploiting productivity gains that are derived from division of labor. However these aspects have received little attention in the body of literature that represents the modern field of development economics - which largely represents the neoclassical application of marginalism. A notable exception is research that utilizes inframarginal analysis of individuals' networking decisions in an attempt to formalize the classical mechanisms that drive division of labor. This book is a first attempt to collect relevant key contributions and is intended for active researchers in the field of development economics.

Book Quantum Computing Physics Blockchains And Deep Learning Smart Networks

Download or read book Quantum Computing Physics Blockchains And Deep Learning Smart Networks written by Melanie Swan and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-03-20 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum information and contemporary smart network domains are so large and complex as to be beyond the reach of current research approaches. Hence, new theories are needed for their understanding and control. Physics is implicated as smart networks are physical systems comprised of particle-many items interacting and reaching criticality and emergence across volumes of macroscopic and microscopic states. Methods are integrated from statistical physics, information theory, and computer science. Statistical neural field theory and the AdS/CFT correspondence are employed to derive a smart network field theory (SNFT) and a smart network quantum field theory (SNQFT) for the orchestration of smart network systems. Specifically, a smart network field theory (conventional or quantum) is a field theory for the organization of particle-many systems from a characterization, control, criticality, and novelty emergence perspective. This book provides insight as to how quantum information science as a paradigm shift in computing may influence other high-impact digital transformation technologies, such as blockchain and machine learning. Smart networks refer to the idea that the internet is no longer simply a communications network, but rather a computing platform. The trajectory is that of communications networks becoming computing networks (with self-executing code), and perhaps ultimately quantum computing networks. Smart network technologies are conceived as autonomous self-operating computing networks. This includes blockchain economies, deep learning neural networks, autonomous supply chains, self-piloting driving fleets, unmanned aerial vehicles, industrial robotics cloudminds, real-time bidding for advertising, high-frequency trading networks, smart city IoT sensors, and the quantum internet.

Book Optimal Control of Multi Level Quantum Systems

Download or read book Optimal Control of Multi Level Quantum Systems written by Robert M. Fisher and published by Sudwestdeutscher Verlag Fur Hochschulschriften AG. This book was released on 2011-03 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis is concerned with the control of quantum systems. Given a Hamiltonian model of a quantum system, we are interested in finding controls-typically shaped electromagnetic pulses-that steer the evolution toward a desired target operation. For this we employ a numerical optimisation method known as the GRAPE algorithm. For particular experimental systems, we design control schemes that respect constraints of robustness and addressability, and are within the reach of the experimental hardware. Applications include the preparation of cluster states in a system of trapped ions, the implementation of the two-qubit Deutsch and Grover algorithms on a pair of carbon nuclei at a nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond, and the implementation of quantum gates on a grid of coupled superconducting qubits. In some special cases analytical solutions are obtained. The methods applied here are fairly general and can be adapted to a variety of other physical systems and tasks.
