Book Optimal Adaptive Estimation Structure and Parameter Adaptation Part I Linear Models

Download or read book Optimal Adaptive Estimation Structure and Parameter Adaptation Part I Linear Models written by D. G. Lainiotis and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Bayesian approach to optimal adatpive estimation with continuous as well as discrete data is presented. Both structure and parameter adaptation are considered and specific recursive adaptation algorithms are derived for gaussian process models and linear dynamics. Specifically, for the class of adaptive estimation problems with linear dynamic models and gaussian excitations, a form of the 'partition' theorem is given that is applicable both for structure and parameter adaptation. The 'partition' or 'decomposition' theorem effects the partition of the essentially nonlinear estimation problem into two parts, a linear non-adaptive part consisting of ordinary Kalman estimators and a nonlinear part that incorporates the adaptive or learning nature of the adaptive estimator. In addition, simple performance measures are introduced for the on-line performance evaluation of the adaptive estimator. The on-line performance measure utilize quantities available from the adaptive estimator and hence a minimum of additional computational effort is required for evaluation. Adaptive estimators are given for filtering, prediction, as well as smoothing. (Author).

Book Optimal Adaptive Estimation Structure and Parameter Adaptation

Download or read book Optimal Adaptive Estimation Structure and Parameter Adaptation written by D. G. Lainiotis and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optimal structure and parameter adaptive estimators have been obtained for continuous as well as discrete data gaussian process models with linear dynamics. Specifically, the essentially nonlinear adaptive estimators are shown to be decomposable (partition theorem) into two parts, a linear non-adaptive part consisting of a bank of Kalman-Bucy filters, and a nonlinear part that incorporates the adaptive nature of the estimator. The conditional-error-covariance matrix of the estimator is also obtained in a form suitable for on-line performance evaluation. The adaptive estimators are applied to the probelm of state-estimation with nongaussian initial state, to estimation under measurement uncertainly (joint detection-estimation) as well as to system identification. Examples are given of the application of the adaptive estimators to structure and parameter adaptation indicating their applicability to engineering problems. (Author).

Book Advances in Communications

Download or read book Advances in Communications written by D.G. Lainiotis and published by Springer. This book was released on 1980-08-31 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The technical program of the Conference consisted of technical sessions that covered all-important aspects of control, informa tion processing/communications, and computers. In particular, there were numerous technical sessions covering all-important aspects of control, such as control theory, control applications, estima tion, identification, adaptive systems, linear systems, stability, cybernetics, computational methods, and simulation. The program also included many sessions on information processing/communicati ons, such as information theory, coding, signal analysis, signal processing, communication theory, satellite communications, pat tern recognition and image processing. Moreover, there were sever al sessions on computers, in particular on computer systems, com puter communication networks, and automata. Finally, the technical program included numerous sessions on important applications of systems technology, such as power, energy modeling and planning, earth resources, transportation, economics and management, and physiological systems. In view of the broad scope of the Conference technical program and the extensive coverage of many important aspects of systems theory and applications by internationally known researchers, we hope that this collection of papers will be a useful supplement to the published literature and textbooks used for research and teaching. For the success of the Conference we are indebted to a great many people and institutions, primarily to the authors of the papers, without whom the conference would not have existed, and this book would not have materialized. We are particularly indebted to the great majority of them who paid some or all of their own expenses.

Book excerpt: impossible to access. It has been widely scattered in papers, reports, and proceedings ofsymposia, with different authors employing different symbols and terms. But now thereis a book that covers all aspects of this dynamic topic in a systematic manner.Featuring consistent terminology and compatible notation, and emphasizing unifiedstrategies, Adaptive Control Systems provides a comprehensive, integrated accountof basic concepts, analytical tools, algorithms, and a wide variety of application trendsand techniques.Adaptive Control Systems deals not only with the two principal approachesmodelreference adaptive control and self-tuning regulators-but also considers otheradaptive strategies involving variable structure systems, reduced order schemes, predictivecontrol, fuzzy logic, and more. In addition, it highlights a large number of practical applicationsin a range of fields from electrical to biomedical and aerospace engineering ...and includes coverage of industrial robots. The book identifies current trends in the development of adaptive control systems ...delineates areas for further research . : . and provides an invaluable bibliography of over1,200 references to the literature. The first authoritative reference in this important area of work, Adaptive ControlSystems is an essential information source for electrical and electronics, R&D,chemical, mechanical, aerospace, biomedical, metallurgical, marine, transportation, andpower plant engineers. It is also useful as a text in professional society seminars and inhousetraining programs for personnel involved with the control of complex systems, andfor graduate students engaged in the study of adaptive control systems.

Book Application to Adaptive Estimation to Temperature Forecasting

Download or read book Application to Adaptive Estimation to Temperature Forecasting written by Newton B. Penrose and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work is an application of adaptive estimation to temperature forecasting. It is presented as a feasibility study demonstrating the efficacy of the adaptive approach. The local station temperature forecasting problem is chosen to focus the discussion on the efficiency of the filtering algorithm by using only surface level single geographic location data. A diagnostic study is made to ascertain the appropriate statistical properties of the weather data for algorithm selection. A phenomenalistic approach is taken since no differential equation or complete quantitative description exists to describe the temperature process. The Lainiotis Filter is chosen for model identification and classification as well as prediction results. The Lainiotis Filter, given in the Partition Theorem, provides an efficient, powerful tool in the application of adaptive estimation techniques. The feasibility of the adaptive approach is established with comparative results with previous objective forecast methods while greatly reducing the amount and variety of required input data.
