Book Optical Spectra and Chemical Bonding in Transition Metal Complexes

Download or read book Optical Spectra and Chemical Bonding in Transition Metal Complexes written by Thomas Schönherr and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-09-30 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Axel Christian Klixbüll Jørgensen was a “Polyhistor”,one of the very few in the highly specialized science of our time. His interests and contributions in ch- istry covered the whole Periodic Table. This statement demonstrates the breadth of his interests, however,it also sheds light on the constraints of chemistry which deals with a large, yet limited number of elements. It is not surprising that Jørgensen went beyond these limits, exploring the probable or plausible ch- istry of yet unknown elements and elementary particles such as quarks. Even chemistry itself did not place rigid limits on his mind,he was able to transfer his chemical concepts to scientific problems far beyond the normal such as in astrophysics. “Structure and Bonding” is intimately associated with the name C.K. J- gensen both as initiator and author over several decades. The appearance of a special edition in memory of this great scientist is a self-evident prolongation of his many contributions to the success of this series.

Book An Introduction to the Optical Spectroscopy of Inorganic Solids

Download or read book An Introduction to the Optical Spectroscopy of Inorganic Solids written by Jose Solé and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-04-01 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical guide to spectroscopy and inorganic materials meets the demand from academia and the science community for an introductory text that introduces the different optical spectroscopic techniques, used in many laboratories, for material characterisation. Treats the most basic aspects to be introduced into the field of optical spectroscopy of inorganic materials, enabling a student to interpret simple optical (absorption, reflectivity, emission and scattering) spectra Contains simple, illustrative examples and solved exercises Covers the theory, instrumentation and applications of spectroscopy for the characterisation of inorganic materials, including lasers, phosphors and optical materials such as photonics This is an ideal beginner’s guide for students with some previous knowledge in quantum mechanics and optics, as well as a reference source for professionals or researchers in materials science, especially the growing field of optical materials.

Book Optical Spectroscopy of Inorganic Solids

Download or read book Optical Spectroscopy of Inorganic Solids written by B. Henderson and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text describes the technique of optical spectroscopy applied to problems in condensed matter physics. It relates theoretical understanding to experimental measurement, including discussion of the optical spectroscopy of inorganic insulators, with many illustrative examples. Symmetry arguments are developed from a formal group theoretical basis and are frequently used, and a special effort is made to treat the subject of lattice vibrations and to show how these can affect the spectroscopic properties of solids. The elements of laser theory are developed, and the authors also explore the use of optically detected magnetic resonance techniques for the investigation of semiconducting materials.

Book Optoelectronic Properties of Inorganic Compounds

Download or read book Optoelectronic Properties of Inorganic Compounds written by D. Max Roundhill and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to offer the reader a snapshot of the field of optoelectronic materials from the viewpoint of inorganic chemists. The field of inorganic chemistry is transforming from one focused on the synthesis of compounds having interesting coordination numbers, structures, and stereochemistries, to one focused on preparing compounds that have potentially useful practical applica tions. Two such applications are in the area of optics and electronics. These are fields where the use of inorganic materials has a long history. As the field of microelectronics develops the demands on the performance of such materials increases, and it becomes necessary to discover compounds that will meet these demands. The field of optoelectronics represents a merging of the two disciplines. Its emergence is a natural one because many of the applications involve both of these properties, and also because the electronic structure of a metal compound that confers novel optical properties is often one that also influences its electron transfer and conductivity characteristics. Two of the more important growth areas that have led to these developments are communications and medicine. Within the communications field there is the microelectronics that is involved in information storage and transmittal, some of which will be transferred into the optical regime. Within the medical field there are chemical probes that transmit analytical information from an in vivo environment. This information needs to be readily accessible from an external site, and then quickly converted into images or data that yield accurate and inexpensive diagnoses.

Book Measurement of Infrared Spectra and Chemical Bonding of Inorganic Compounds

Download or read book Measurement of Infrared Spectra and Chemical Bonding of Inorganic Compounds written by Pierre C. Tarte and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infra-red absorption spectra of selected families of inorganic solid compounds have been registered and discussed. The following types of compounds have been investigated: (1) Compounds with, or related to, the MgO (NaCl) structure. The spectrum, which is very simple for compounds with the true NaCl structure, is more complicated for LiX(III)O2 compounds; in this latter type of compounds, the study of 6Li - 7Li isotopic shifts shows that the low-frequency band (in the 300 - 200/cm region) must be assigned to a vibration of LiO6 octahedra, whereas the 600 - 400/cm absorption is essentially related to vibrations of the X(III)O6 octahedra. (2) Lithium compounds of various types. In this case, a systematic investigation of 6Li - 7Li isotopic frequency shifts demonstrates the occurrence of various (weak to very strong) types of vibrational interactions. (3) Compounds with the BaSO4 structure. Three problems have been investigated: the occurrence of frequency shifts in the spectrum of BaSO4 in relation with the methods of synthesis; the IR pattern of compounds of this type for different cations and anions; the IR spectrum of solid solutions. (Author).
