Book Alkaline Earth Hydroxides in Water and Aqueous Solutions

Download or read book Alkaline Earth Hydroxides in Water and Aqueous Solutions written by I. Lambert and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains evaluated data on the solubility of beryllium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide, strontium hydroxide and barium hydroxide in water and in a number of electrolyte and nonelectrolyte solutions in water. The alkaline earth hydroxides can be divided into two groups depending on the hydration of the solid. First, the sparingly soluble anhydrous beryllium, magnesium and calcium hydroxides, whose freshly precipitated solids are poorly crystalline and show decreasing solubility with aging, and whose solubility in water decreases with increasing temperature. Second, the soluble strontium and barium hydroxide octahydrates that form crystalline precipitates which do not show changes in solubility on aging, and whose solubility in water increases with increasing temperature.

Book Low Temperature Geochemistry

Download or read book Low Temperature Geochemistry written by Tu Guangzhi and published by VSP. This book was released on 1996-12 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low-temperature geochemistry -- a 'hot topic' in geochemistry at present -- deals with geological and chemical processes and the geochemical evolution of elements in nature below 200C, including the geochemical behaviour of elements in the processes of their extraction, remobilization, transport and mineralization at room temperature and below 0C. This book focuses on the low-temperature geochemical behaviour of precious metals, REE, some individual dispersed elements and some non-metallic elements and their minergenesis at low-temperatures. The book deals with the following topics: 1) geochemistry of selected low-temperature deposits or prospects (horizons); 2) geochemistry of elements during diagenesis, buried metamorphism and low-grade metamorphism; 3) remobilization, transport and precipitation of some ore-forming elements under low-temperature conditions; 4) water/rock interactions in low-temperature open systems

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer. This book was released on 1976 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis· seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) *at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac· tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 20 (thesis year 1975) a total of 10,374 theses titles from 28 Canadian and 239 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. The organization of Volume 20 is identical to that of past years. It consists of theses titles arranged by discipline and by university within each discipline.

Book Chemical Bonding at Surfaces and Interfaces

Download or read book Chemical Bonding at Surfaces and Interfaces written by Anders Nilsson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-08-11 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular surface science has made enormous progress in the past 30 years. The development can be characterized by a revolution in fundamental knowledge obtained from simple model systems and by an explosion in the number of experimental techniques. The last 10 years has seen an equally rapid development of quantum mechanical modeling of surface processes using Density Functional Theory (DFT). Chemical Bonding at Surfaces and Interfaces focuses on phenomena and concepts rather than on experimental or theoretical techniques. The aim is to provide the common basis for describing the interaction of atoms and molecules with surfaces and this to be used very broadly in science and technology. The book begins with an overview of structural information on surface adsorbates and discusses the structure of a number of important chemisorption systems. Chapter 2 describes in detail the chemical bond between atoms or molecules and a metal surface in the observed surface structures. A detailed description of experimental information on the dynamics of bond-formation and bond-breaking at surfaces make up Chapter 3. Followed by an in-depth analysis of aspects of heterogeneous catalysis based on the d-band model. In Chapter 5 adsorption and chemistry on the enormously important Si and Ge semiconductor surfaces are covered. In the remaining two Chapters the book moves on from solid-gas interfaces and looks at solid-liquid interface processes. In the final chapter an overview is given of the environmentally important chemical processes occurring on mineral and oxide surfaces in contact with water and electrolytes. Gives examples of how modern theoretical DFT techniques can be used to design heterogeneous catalysts This book suits the rapid introduction of methods and concepts from surface science into a broad range of scientific disciplines where the interaction between a solid and the surrounding gas or liquid phase is an essential component Shows how insight into chemical bonding at surfaces can be applied to a range of scientific problems in heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemistry, environmental science and semiconductor processing Provides both the fundamental perspective and an overview of chemical bonding in terms of structure, electronic structure and dynamics of bond rearrangements at surfaces

Book Optical Activity of Proteins and Other Macromolecules

Download or read book Optical Activity of Proteins and Other Macromolecules written by Bruno Jirgensons and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of circular dichroism (CD) to various problems involving con formation of proteins and other biopolymers is emphasized in this revised and enlarged second edition. The usefulness of CD and ORD in helping to solve structural prob lems is demonstrated by many examples, and the most essential data are tabulated. The author is sincerely grateful to the editors of the series Molecular Biology, Bio chemistry and Biophysics, especially to Professor GEORG F. SPRINGER, M.D., for their interest in this edition, as well as to the many reviewers for their constructive criticism of the first edition of this book. Our previously unpublished work reported in this second edition was supported in part by grants from the R. A. Welch Foundation (grant G-051) and U.S. Public Health Service (grant CA-01785). Houston, September 1973 B. JIRGENSONS Preface to the First Edition Great advances have been made in the application of physical methods in the study of the structure of proteins and other biological macromolecules. Optical rotatory dispersion has been successful in solving structural problems, and a vast amount of literature has accumulated on this subject. Several review articles appeared between 1961 and 1965, but significant progress has been made since 1965. Important new studies, especially on the Cotton effects in the far ultraviolet spectrum, have rendered many previous publications obsolete so that a concise monograph should be useful at this time.
