Book Optical Properties of Metals and Intermolecular Interactions Opticheskie Svoistva Metallov Mezhmolekulyarnoe Vzaimodeistvie

Download or read book Optical Properties of Metals and Intermolecular Interactions Opticheskie Svoistva Metallov Mezhmolekulyarnoe Vzaimodeistvie written by D. V. Skobel tsyn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first part of this collection sets out the results of some experimental and theoretical investigations into the optical properties of nontransition metals. The extensive future pros pects of metal optics are indicated; the use of metal optics enables a whole series of import ant electron properties of metals to be determined. Results obtained by studying intermolecular forces (the hydrogen bond and van der Waals forces) using spectroscopic methods (Raman effect and infrared absorption) are presented in the second part. A method of studying the true absorption of the drop phase of a water cloud is described. Methods of increasing the dispersion of manufactured spectral instruments and constructing various infrared spectrometers are indicated. The publication is intended for scientific workers, graduates, and students concerned with problems of metal optics, the electron properties of metals, and molecular spectroscopy. v CONTENTS OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF NONTRANSITION METALS G. Book Optical Properties of Solids

Download or read book Optical Properties of Solids written by Frederick Wooten and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Optical Properties of Solids covers the important concepts of intrinsic optical properties and photoelectric emission. The book starts by providing an introduction to the fundamental optical spectra of solids. The text then discusses Maxwell's equations and the dielectric function; absorption and dispersion; and the theory of free-electron metals. The quantum mechanical theory of direct and indirect transitions between bands; the applications of dispersion relations; and the derivation of an expression for the dielectric function in the self-consistent field approximation are also encompassed. The book further tackles current-current correlations; the fluctuation-dissipation theorem; and the effect of surface plasmons on optical properties and photoemission. People involved in the study of the optical properties of solids will find the book invaluable.

Book Optical Properties of Nanostructured Metallic Systems

Download or read book Optical Properties of Nanostructured Metallic Systems written by Sergio G. Rodrigo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-08 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The common belief is that light is completely reflected by metals. In reality they also exhibit an amazing property that is not so widely known: under some conditions light flows along a metallic surface as if it were glued to it. Physical phenomena related to these light waves, which are called Surface Plasmon Polaritons (SPP), have given rise to the research field of plasmonics. This thesis explores four interesting topics within plasmonics: extraordinary optical transmission, negative refractive index metamaterials, plasmonic devices for controlling SPPs, and field enhancement phenomena near metal nanoparticles.

Book Colour and the Optical Properties of Materials

Download or read book Colour and the Optical Properties of Materials written by Richard J. D. Tilley and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-12-20 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colour and the Optical Properties of Materials carefully introduces the science behind the subject, along with many modern and cutting-edge applications, chosen to appeal to today's students. For science students, it provides a broad introduction to the subject and the many applications of colour. To more applied students, such as engineering and arts students, it provides the essential scientific background to colour and the many applications. New to this Edition: The chapter framework of the first edition will be retained, with each chapter being substantially rewritten and some material would be relocated. Some chapters will be rewritten in a clearer fashion, e.g. There have been no significant advances in the understanding of rainbows recently, but the text could be clarified and improved. Colour has been an important attribute of many nano-particle containing systems, such as quantum dots. This aspect will be included, e.g. the colour of gold ruby glass, described in Chapter 5 as part of scattering phenomena now is better treated in terms of gold nanoparticles and surface plasmons. This would probably be transferred to Chapter 10 and considered in tandem with the colour of metals such as copper, silver and gold. A similar state of affairs applies to silver nanoparticles and polychromic glass. Some chapters will include extensive new material, e.g. Chapter 8, colours due to molecular processes [organic LEDs etc], and Chapter 12, Displays, [touch screen technologies]. For all chapters it would be intended to take into account the current scientific literature up to the time of submission – say up to the end of 2009. The end of chapter Further Reading sections would reflect this up-to-date overview. The end of chapter problems will be strengthened and expanded.
