Book Optical Pattern Recognition for Missile Guidance

Download or read book Optical Pattern Recognition for Missile Guidance written by David Casasent and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on optical pattern recognition (OPR) for missile guidance has addressed three general areas: new OPR techniques, OPR experiments on specific missile guidance problems and scenarios, and component evaluation and testing. In the area of component evaluation and testing, research has been concentrated on 2-D spatial light modulators (SLM) with specific attention to the photo-DKDP, prom, and the liquid crystal light valve and to a general test and evaluation procedure for these devices. A general SLM test and evaluation procedure has been developed. In the area of new OPR techniques, a coherence measure correlator, an equalization correlator, moment invariant hybrid correlator and an averaged filter correlator have been developed. Specific missile guidance scenarios persued were OPR of multi-sensor and infrared imagery. The former has laid initial ground work for a future program in optical statistical and deterministic pattern recognition. The latter has initiated a generalized approach to OPR using hyperspace formulations and linear combinations of orthonormal basis functions.

Book Optical Data Processing for Missile Guidance

Download or read book Optical Data Processing for Missile Guidance written by David Casasent and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The initial phase of our synthetic discriminant function optical pattern recognition research has been completed. This hyperspace description allows the use of off-line synthesis of a filter function that provides both intra-class recognition (of a key object independent of geometrical distortions) and inter-class discrimination (of a key object from candidate false targets). A new theoretical model for multi-sensor data, a description of a general multi-sensor processor and a statistical analysis of both have also been completed. Initial experimental correlations were obtained and found to be in agreement with our model and theoretical analysis. A new parameter, the correlation measure, was found to be of use in determining the multi-sensor nature of input imagery and a (GRAD) digital preprocessing operator was found to be quite adequate for the cases considered. Our initial optical correlations on the autonomous terminal homing data base were also completed. In this research, aperture correlation effects were overcome by a new technique, optical and digital correlations on the same data base were obtained and compared (with a high pass filter model for the optical matched filter found to be adequate and appropriate for many applications), and sensed/synthetic optical image correlations were obtained (with the help of photoreduced imagery and advanced preprocessing operations). Book Real Time Optical Pattern Recognition for Missile Systems

Download or read book Real Time Optical Pattern Recognition for Missile Systems written by John R. Shewell and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report covers the results of an advisory contract with directions to assist the Laser Measurement Technology Group of the US Army Missile Command Redstone Arsenal, Alabama in an initial evaluation of the potential applicability of optical pattern recognition to target identification and terminal homing systems. The initial part of the report is a tutorial survey of optical pattern recognition which includes a selected bibliography that reflects the present state of the art. Sections 1 and 2 discuss two potential applications. Preliminary calculations indicate that it is energetically practical to use optical pattern recognition techniques for target recognition over a range of five kilometers. Less detailed calculations on another possible applications indicate that detection of either intensity distributions or intensity gradients can be used for target recognition; however, electronic techniques are probably preferable to optical processing techniques. Book excerpt: Our research concerns optical data processing for missile guidance and target recognition. It uses pattern recognition techniques with an increasing use of knowledge base, inference machine and associative processor techniques. Our Year 2 work addresses devices (the liquid crystal television), Kalman filters, intrinsic features, iconic filters, and symbolic processors. These all represent quite novel optical processing concepts. Our work also concerns new architectures and concepts such as: relational graph processors, optical linear discriminant processors, model-based optical processors, hierarchical symbolic optical correlators, and optical associative processors.

Book Computer Vision Techniques for the Diagnosis of Skin Cancer

Download or read book Computer Vision Techniques for the Diagnosis of Skin Cancer written by Jacob Scharcanski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-30 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this volume is to summarize the state-of-the-art in the utilization of computer vision techniques in the diagnosis of skin cancer. Malignant melanoma is one of the most rapidly increasing cancers in the world. Early diagnosis is particularly important since melanoma can be cured with a simple excision if detected early. In recent years, dermoscopy has proved valuable in visualizing the morphological structures in pigmented lesions. However, it has also been shown that dermoscopy is difficult to learn and subjective. Newer technologies such as infrared imaging, multispectral imaging, and confocal microscopy, have recently come to the forefront in providing greater diagnostic accuracy. These imaging technologies presented in this book can serve as an adjunct to physicians and provide automated skin cancer screening. Although computerized techniques cannot as yet provide a definitive diagnosis, they can be used to improve biopsy decision-making as well as early melanoma detection, especially for patients with multiple atypical nevi.

Book COMPUTER VISION IMAGE RECOGNITION AND ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES

Download or read book COMPUTER VISION IMAGE RECOGNITION AND ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES written by Prof. Munindra Lunagaria and published by Xoffencerpublication. This book was released on 2023-07-04 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer vision is what we call the practice of using computer-based imaging where there is no human interaction in the visual loop at any point in the process. The photos are analyzed by a computer, which then takes appropriate action depending on their results. Computer vision systems are used in a variety of medical disciplines, and the only thing that can be said with absolute confidence is that the scope of these systems' applications will continue to expand in the future is the only thing that can be declared with absolute certainty. processing one or more digital photographs in order to generate valuable inferences about real-world physical objects and situations by computing the features of the 3D environment. This processing may be done with either one picture or all of them together. generating an accurate and comprehensive description of a real world object based on a photograph of that thing. The discipline of computer vision came into being as a consequence of efforts to model image processing utilizing the several approaches that are accessible within the discipline of machine learning. The field of computer vision makes use of machine learning to search for patterns in images with the end goal of deciphering such patterns. The field of computer vision entails the practice of teaching computers to recognize objects based on the digital still photos or moving movies that are sent into them. Finding methods through which jobs can be automated that now rely on the human visual system is the objective here. Image processing is one of the various methods that are utilized in the execution of this approach. The subfield of artificial intelligence (AI) known as computer vision is an absolutely necessary component in order for computers and other types of systems to be able to respond or provide suggestions based on visual data such as digital photos, movies, and other types of inputs. The same way that artificial intelligence makes it possible for computers to think, computer vision makes it possible for computers to see, comprehend, and observe. Computer vision and human vision are functionally comparable; the primary difference is that human eyesight developed far earlier than computer vision. The capacity of human beings to learn to differentiate between different things, their distances from one another, whether or not the items are moving
