Book Optical and Electrical Properties

Download or read book Optical and Electrical Properties written by P.A. Lee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fourth volume in the series 'Physics and Chemistry of Materials with Layered Structures' is concerned with providing a critical review of the significant optical and electrical properties by established authors who have themselves made many significant contributions to these fields. Research into these materials has recently gained a new impetus and their fascinating properties have attracted many new research workers. These people should find much of value in the reviews contained in this volume and the editor is very much indebted for the painstaking and hard work put into the preparation of the various chapters by the authors. The optical properties provide useful information for deriving the band struc tures, a knowledge of which is required for an interpretation of measurements on the electronic properties. The chapters by Dr Evans, Dr Williams and Dr Bordas describe different techniques which have provided much detailed data on this subject. An interesting property of these materials is the comparative ease with which thin specimens may be prepared for these measurements and this is highlighted in the super conducting experiments outlined by Professor Frindt and Dr Huntley. These authors together with Dr Vandenberg's chapter on the magnetic properties also describe the interesting and significant intercalation mechanisms whereby a wide range of organic compounds and alkali metals may be incorporated in the lattice. This provides an additional parameter for varying the properties of these materials and may yet be seen to provide eventual possible applications of layer compounds.

Download or read book Optical and Electrical Properties of Nanoscale Materials written by Alain Diebold and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-10 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the optical and electrical properties of nanoscale materials with an emphasis on how new and unique material properties result from the special nature of their electronic band structure. Beginning with a review of the optical and solid state physics needed for understanding optical and electrical properties, the book then introduces the electronic band structure of solids and discusses the effect of spin orbit coupling on the valence band, which is critical for understanding the optical properties of most nanoscale materials. Book Electrical Properties of Materials

Download or read book Electrical Properties of Materials written by Laszlo Solymar and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2009-10-22 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An informal and highly accessible writing style, a simple treatment of mathematics, and clear guide to applications, have made this book a classic text in electrical and electronic engineering. Students will find it both readable and comprehensive. The fundamental ideas relevant to the understanding of the electrical properties of materials are emphasized; in addition, topics are selected in order to explain the operation of devices having applications (or possible future applications) in engineering. The mathematics, kept deliberately to a minimum, is well within the grasp of a second-year student. This is achieved by choosing the simplest model that can display the essential properties of a phenomenom, and then examining the difference between the ideal and the actual behaviour. The whole text is designed as an undergraduate course. However most individual sections are self contained and can be used as background reading in graduate courses, and for interested persons who want to explore advances in microelectronics, lasers, nanotechnology and several other topics that impinge on modern life.

Book Optical Properties of Surfaces

Download or read book Optical Properties of Surfaces written by Dick Bedeaux and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This invaluable book represents a substantial body of work describing the theory of the optical properties of thin island films and rough surfaces. In both cases the feature sizes are small compared to the wavelength of light. The approach is extremely rigorous and theoretically very thorough. The reflection, transmission and absorption of light are described. Computer programs that provide exact solutions for theoretical properties of thin island films are available, and this makes the book of great practical use. The early chapters present a comprehensive theoretical framework. In this new edition a chapter on reflection from gyrotropic media has been added. Contributions due to the gyrotropic nature of the interfacial layer are discussed.

Book Optical Properties of Advanced Materials

Download or read book Optical Properties of Advanced Materials written by Yoshinobu Aoyagi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-05-14 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last decade, optically functionalized materials have developed rapidly, from bulk matters to structured forms. Now we have a rich variety of attractive advanced materials. They are applied to optical and electrical devices that support the information communication technology in the mid 21-th century. Accordingly, it is quite important to have a broad knowledge of the optical properties of advanced materials for students, scientists and engineers working in optics and related fields. This book is designed to teach fundamental optical properties of such advanced materials effectively. These materials have their own peculiarities which are very interesting in modern optical physics and also for applications because the concepts of optical properties are quite different from those in conventional optical materials. Hence each chapter starts to review the basic concepts of the materials briefly and proceeds to the practical use. The important topics covered in this book include: quantum structures of semiconductors, spintronics, photonic crystals, surface plasmons in metallic nanostructures, photonic metamaterials, liquid crystal materials, organic LED materials and magnet-optics.
