Book Autonomous Nuclear Power Plants with Artificial Intelligence

Download or read book Autonomous Nuclear Power Plants with Artificial Intelligence written by Jonghyun Kim and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-20 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces novel approaches and practical examples of autonomous nuclear power plants that minimize operator intervention. Autonomous nuclear power plants with artificial intelligence presents a framework to enable nuclear power plants to autonomously operate and introduces artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to implement its functions. Although nuclear power plants are already highly automated to reduce human errors and guarantee the reliability of system operations, the term “autonomous” is still not popular because AI techniques are regarded as less proven technologies. However, the use of AI techniques and the autonomous operation seems unavoidable because of their great advantages, especially, in advanced reactors and small modular reactors. The book includes the following topics: Monitoring, diagnosis, and prediction. Intelligent control. Operator support systems. Operator-autonomous system interaction. Integration into the autonomous operation system. This book will provides useful information for researchers and students who are interested in applying AI techniques in the fields of nuclear as well as other industries. This book covers broad practical applications of AI techniques from the classical fault diagnosis to more recent autonomous control. In addition, specific techniques and modelling examples are expected to be very informative to the beginners in the AI studies.

Book The Initial Development of a Computerized Operator Support System

Download or read book The Initial Development of a Computerized Operator Support System written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computerized operator support system (COSS) is a collection of resilient software technologies to assist operators in monitoring overall nuclear power plant performance and making timely, informed decisions on appropriate control actions for the projected plant condition. The COSS provides rapid assessments, computations, and recommendations to reduce workload and augment operator judgment and decision-making during fast- moving, complex events. A prototype COSS for a chemical volume control system at a nuclear power plant has been developed in order to demonstrate the concept and provide a test bed for further research. The development process identified four underlying elements necessary for the prototype, which consist of a digital alarm system, computer-based procedures, piping and instrumentation diagram system representations, and a recommender module for mitigation actions. An operational prototype resides at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) using the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Light Water Reactor Sustainability (LWRS) Human Systems Simulation Laboratory (HSSL). Several human-machine interface (HMI) considerations are identified and incorporated in the prototype during this initial round of development.

Book Management of Nuclear Power Plant Projects

Download or read book Management of Nuclear Power Plant Projects written by IAEA and published by International Atomic Energy Agency. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Member States intending to introduce a nuclear power programme will need to pass through several phases during the implementation. Experience shows that careful planning of the objectives, roles, responsibilities, interfaces and tasks to be carried out in different phases of a nuclear project is important for success. This publication presents a harmonized approach that may be used to structure the owner/operator management system and establish and manage nuclear projects and their development activities irrespective of the adopted approach. It has been developed from shared management practices and consolidated experiences provided by nuclear project management specialists through a series of workshops and working groups organized by the IAEA. The resultant publication presents a useful framework for the management of nuclear projects from initiation to closeout and captures international best practices.

Book Development and Implementation of Computerized Operator Support Systems in Nuclear Installations

Download or read book Development and Implementation of Computerized Operator Support Systems in Nuclear Installations written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report addresses the development and implementation of computerized operator support systems (COSS) in nuclear installations. It discusses the requirements of operators in information management and job performance in control room environments. The design methodology described presents good practice approaches derived from the experience gained and the lessons learned during actual development of the COSS.

Book A Computerized Operator Support System Prototype

Download or read book A Computerized Operator Support System Prototype written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computerized operator support system (COSS) is proposed for use in nuclear power plants to assist control room operators in addressing time-critical plant upsets. A COSS is a collection of technologies to assist operators in monitoring overall plant performance and making timely, informed decisions on appropriate control actions for the projected plant condition. A prototype COSS was developed in order to demonstrate the concept and provide a test bed for further research. The prototype is based on four underlying elements consisting of a digital alarm system, computer-based procedures, piping and instrumentation diagram system representations, and a recommender module for mitigation actions. The initial version of the prototype is now operational at the Idaho National Laboratory using the Human System Simulation Laboratory.
