Book A Text Book of Operative Surgery Covering the Surgical Anatomy and Operative Technic Involved in the Operations of General Surgery

Download or read book A Text Book of Operative Surgery Covering the Surgical Anatomy and Operative Technic Involved in the Operations of General Surgery written by Warren Stone Bickham and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 1010 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Text-Book of Operative Surgery, Covering the Surgical Anatomy and Operative Technic Involved in the Operations of General Surgery: Written for Students and Practitioners The clinical aspect of Operative Surgery has been less fully dealt with and in generalizations in connection with groups of operations, rather than specifically in connection with individual operations. An apology for the amount of Anatomy given may seem, to some, meces sary. From the standpoint of the pure technician, Operative Surgery is, largely, Applied Anatomy - the application of the facts of Surgical Anatomy during the progress of Surgical Manipulations - the resulting Operative Technic being more or less perfect as the knowledge of the Surgical Anatomy and the conduction of the Surgical Manipulations are more or less perfect. Theoretically, it is proper to expect fourth - year Students to come into the Operating Room with their Anatomy in an available form for surgical work - practically, this is rarely found - and is often absent in seasoned Operators. Download or read book The Course of Operative Surgery written by Victor Schmieden and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-26 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Course of Operative Surgery: A Handbook for Practitioners and Students Professor schmieden's name requires no foreword in Britain, still less in America. He was kind enough to hand over the sheets of the Second Edition as they appeared, so that the necessary additions could be made to the first translation. This explains why the German second edition and the English translation thereof are issued almost simultaneously. Dr. Schmieden has inserted a number of points that have rendered the second edition more useful to British and American readers. The surgical tree of knowledge had become too complex. The Berlin surgeon has accordingly pruned it of alternative methods and left only the stem that is common to all countries. He has summed up the essentials. He has refrained from crowding his canvas with details that can be mastered only in the operating theatre. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Operative Surgery The following Work was undertaken in compliance with the advice of some professional friends, who equally felt with myself the want of a book on the subject of Operative Surgery, which might become, not simply a guide to the actual operation, and embrace the practical rules required to justify the appeal to the knife, but would embody, at the same time, such principles as should constitute a permanent guide to the practitioner of Operative Surgery, and without which, all claim to its scientific character is lost. Book Text Book of Operative Surgery Classic Reprint

Download or read book Text Book of Operative Surgery Classic Reprint written by Theodor Kocher and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from d104-Book of Operative Surgery The First English Edition, published in 1895, was translated from the Second German Edition, published in 1894. This, the Second English Edition, which is a translation of the F ourth (latest) German Edition, is only a few pages less than twice the size of its predecessor. There have also been added 70 new illustrations, many of Which are coloured. The sections dealing with Anaesthesia, the Treatment of Wounds, the Head and Neck, Thorax, Abdomen and Pelvis, have been entirely rewritten, and' the same may be said of the sections on Amputations and Excisions. Compared, therefore, with the former English Edition, the present work may be regarded as practically a new book. Since the publication of the F ourth German Edition there has appeared, in the Zentralblatt few Chirurgie, of l0th J annary, 1903, a paper from the pen of Professor kocher, entitled Mobilisierung des Duodenum und Gastro duodenostomie. The author speaks so highly of the operation that I have considered it advisable to introduce, in the form of an appendix, a translation of this important paper. For the time and labour expended in the translation the writer derives no i'nconsiderable reward from the consciousness that the teaching and methods of so great a master as Professor kocher will be welcomed not only by senior students. And practitioners, but also by all who are actively engaged in the teaching and practice of surgery. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Clinical Surgery: For the Instruction of Practitioners and Students of Surgery Many practitioners who have honored the author by visiting his clinic have requested that a work on Clinical Surgery be written by him, giving as nearly as possible the methods adopted in actual practice. This request has been met by the statement that the author lays no claim to the invention of a single new operation, nor has he produced a new or modified instrument, but has contented himself with applying to his surgical work what seemed best in the practice of the surgeons of the past and present, many times without knowing by whom the various methods were modified before they were accepted and used by him. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The First Lines of the Practice of Surgery: Being an Elementary Work for Students, and a Concise Book of Reference for Practitioners; Part I. General Surgical Subjects; Part II. Particular Surgical Subjects As a systematic writer I have assumed the privilege of en riching my own work with the labours of others. This plan is indispensable; for no individual will ever be found who shall give a general account of so extensive a subject as surgery, in the way in which it ought to be given, unless he make fme use of the works of preceding authors. It is quite unnecessary to mention here the various sources from which I have obtained information, as I have taken care, in the subsequent columns, to make honourable mention of every person's name to whom Licel indebted for assistance. Book The Principles and Practice of Surgery

Download or read book The Principles and Practice of Surgery written by George Tully Vaughan and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-21 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles and Practice of Surgery: Designed for Students and Practitioners The object of this volume is to present the subject of general surgery in the way best adapted for the uses of the general prao titioner and student. For this reason, consideration of the several branches of special surgery, such as ophthalmology, otology, etc., has been omitted. The large clinical experience of the author and his many years of teaching work have convinced him that there is much need for such a book. At a time when the various Special sub jects in medical science require individual text-books to expound their first principles, it is clearly impracticable to attempt anything like a proper presentation of them within the limits of a volume de voted to general surgery. In every instance the effort has been to present the subject matter from the most practical point of view. Condensation has been used as much as is consistent with clearness and a fair exposition of the subjects by giving special attention to practical points and avoiding long theoretical discussions.
