Download or read book Medical Countermeasures Dispensing written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2011-01-16 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During public health emergencies such as terrorist attacks or influenza outbreaks, the public health system's ability to save lives could depend on dispensing medical countermeasures such as antibiotics, antiviral medications, and vaccines to a large number of people in a short amount of time. The IOM's Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Catastrophic Events held a workshop on November 18, 2009, to provide an overview of current threats, recent progress made in the public health system for distributing and dispensing countermeasures, and remaining vulnerabilities.
Download or read book Dispensing Medical Countermeasures for Public Health Emergencies written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2008-10-03 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On March 3-4, 2008, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Catastrophic Events hosted a workshop titled "Medical Countermeasures Dispensing." The overall objective was to discuss a range of solutions to rapidly provide medical countermeasures to protect large numbers of people prior to or during a public health emergency, such as a bioterrorist attack or infectious disease outbreak. The United States is currently unprepared to confront the range of threats it is facing, such as an intentional anthrax release, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), or pandemic influenza, and it must plan aggressively to counteract the threat of these and other future public health emergencies. Countermeasure dispensing must harness all types of imaginative partnerships between public and private institutions, working together in ways tailored to meet individual community needs. This workshop summary highlights the presentations and subsequent discussion that occurred at the workshop.
Download or read book Integration of AI and OR Techniques in Constraint Programming for Combinatorial Optimization Problems written by Willem-Jan van Hoeve and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-05-17 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Integration of AI and OR Techniques in Constraint Programming for Combinatorial Optimization Problems, CPAIOR 2009, held in Pittsburgh, PA, USA, in May 2009. The 20 revised full papers and 10 extended abstracts presented together with 2 invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 65 submissions. The papers describe current research in the fields of constraint programming, artificial intelligence, and operations research and present new techniques or new applications in combinatorial optimization, thus exploring ways of solving large-scale, practical optimization problems through integration and hybridization of the fields' different techniques.

Download or read book Essays and Surveys in Global Optimization written by Charles Audet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-05 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global optimization aims at solving the most general problems of deterministic mathematical programming: to find the global optimum of a nonlinear, nonconvex, multivariate function of continuous and/or integer variables subject to constraints which may be themselves nonlinear and nonconvex. In addition, once the solutions are found, proof of its optimality is also expected from this methodology. Therefore, with these difficulties in mind, global optimization is becoming an increasingly powerful and important methodology. Essays and Surveys in Global Optimization is the most recent examination of its mathematical capability, power, and wide ranging solutions to many fields in the applied sciences.
