Download or read book Operation Janus written by JP Cross and published by Monsoon Books. This book was released on 2017-10-01 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skinny Chinese taxi-girls dance with off-duty British military personnel at the Yam Yam nightclub to the strains of ‘Rose, Rose, I love you’ and ‘Terang Bulan’. Attractively dressed in their long, tight-fitting, slit-sided cheongsams, the girls also listen out for loose talk, which they feed back to their Communist handlers. It is 1950s Malaya and the country is in the throes of the Malayan Emergency. As the British do battle with Communist terrorists hiding deep in the jungle, one British officer, a Communist sympathizer, has come to the attention of the staff at the Yam Yam. When Alan Hinlea, a British Gurkha captain with a hatred of a class system that has always kept him down, deserts to the guerillas and is spirited away to the jungle Communist HQ, Chin Peng, the leader of the Malayan Communist Party gloats at what he hopes will be a major propaganda victory. A fellow British Gurkha officer is despatched with five Gurkhas to hunt Hinlea down and the chase through pathless jungle becomes a race against time and a contest of deadly jungle warfare skills. Operation Janus is the first in a trilogy of books involving Gurkha military units that may be read in any order and is followed by Operation Blind Spot and Operation Four Rings. The author, JP Cross, a retired Gurkha colonel, old ‘jungle hand’ and counter-insurgency expert, draws on real events he witnessed during his time fighting in the Malayan Emergency and on true characters, including a British officer of his own battalion who attempted to join the Communist terrorists.
Download or read book Live by the Sword written by Gus Russo and published by Bancroft Press. This book was released on 1998-11-25 with total page 808 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humiliated at the Bay of Pigs, John and Robert Kennedy sought desperately to eliminate Castro. Their strategies for overthrowing the Cuban leader were so elaborate and bizarre, they could only engender paranoia. Castro openly threatened to retaliate. Pro-Castro agitator Lee Harvey Oswald learned that Robert Kennedy was personally supervising groups plotting against the Cuban leader. Filled with rage and a sense of destiny, Oswald went to the Cuban embassy in Mexico, announcing he would kill America's president in exchange for sanctuary in Havana. Live By the Sword forces the conclusion that members of the Cuban regime accepted the troubled American's offer. Russo shows that Oswald was indeed JFK's lone assailant, but that after the president's murder, a devastated Robert Kennedy and key officials launched a comprehensive coverup to hide its true causes.Gus Russo, based in Baltimore, Maryland, has reported for acclaimed ABC and PBS documentaries on JFK, and done research for authors Gerald Posner, Seymour Hersh, and Anthony Summers. Exhaustively researched, Live by the Sword ends 35 years of public mistrust and confusion over the Kennedy assassination.
Download or read book Betrayal from Hell written by Ryan LeStrange and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Truth is, you can't get through life without going through betrayal. However, betrayal isn't as straightforward as you might imagine. What happens when someone at work stabs you in the back or even worse, what happens when your family betrays you? At that moment, the wind is knocked out of you, but you don't have to remain gasping for air. In Betrayal From Hell, prophetic minister Ryan LeStrange peels back the supernatural layers to reveal the three evil spiritual roots of betrayal and exposes how these demons are: Controlled by pride Hungry for power Seduced by opportunity Whether you are a soccer mom, a prophet, or an entrepreneur, betrayal is sure to show up in your life. In this important follow-up to Hell's Toxic Trio, LeStrange explores the concept of betrayal and the resulting pain, and offers a recovery plan and a recipe for quick and lasting healing.
Download or read book The Indian written by Jeffrey Bernhardt and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-04-10 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jeff has been telling lies since he cut down his fathers cherry tree. He obtained degrees in math and chemistry, which have served him well over the years in spinning plausible stories for many employers. For many years, he has designed and developed medical instruments, some of which worked. It has somehow just dawned on him that he could spin yarns for his own purposes. Jeff has three children and lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California with his wife and high schoolaged youngest daughter. The neighbors complain about his dogs and the racket he makes on every New Years Eve. Jeff lived through and participated in events of the period portrayed in this book but, as is usual of those who did, cannot remember much of it. However, the intentions, yearnings, and idealism of the period are crystal clear and as out of step with the larger social mores now as they were then. Details of the historical events have been chronicled by many in exquisite detail and are utilized extensively in this work. The extraordinary period depicted in this work spanning 1969 through 1972 is a greatly underappreciated and momentous point in American history and the place of America in the world. From the peak of affluence and power, many were able to pursue spiritual and political ideals, only to slam against the larger reality of a culture which fractured and came dangerously close to self-destruction.

Download or read book Where Were You written by Gus Russo and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: November 22, 1963. A policeman’s wife was fetching their sick child from school. A young shoe store manager had no idea what lay in wait for him that day. A future president was tending to his farm. A future vice president was standing on the steps of his college library. A Georgetown student was looking forward to playing the piano for the president when he returned to Washington, DC, that evening. A future movie star was attending his second-grade art class. Then the news rang out across airwaves, through telephone lines, and by word of mouth, plunging the country into shock and sorrow. It’s hard to imagine how the last fifty years would have unfolded if President John F. Kennedy had lived. Would Vietnam have dragged on until 1974? Would Nixon have come into power? It’s difficult to say—but, combining evocative archival images with the unique, first-person stories of those who lived through it, Where Were You? says what the history books can’t and offers a fresh look at what was, what is, and what might have been since that fateful day. In the two-hour NBC documentary event that this volume accompanies, special correspondent Tom Brokaw interviewed people close to the tragedy as well as former heads of state, politicians, authors, journalists, performers, musicians, and more. He asked them five simple questions, starting with: Where were you? Together, their words paint a rich and moving picture of a hopeful nation torn asunder by grief. It will remind those who lived it of a pivotal moment in American history, and it bears witness for all who follow.

Download or read book Heavenly Business written by Jo Ann M. Colton and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-04-23 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When it appears to the Almighty that His Heavenly World is going to "hell in a hand basket" because newly-departed souls are finding their way to Lucifers domain rather than His Kingdom, He believes it is time for a change. Realizing He and the Devil are both vying for the same pool of dearly departed souls, He decides to reengineer His Heavenly "business processes" using, of all things, a county government infrastructure as His new model! As Heaven continues to chart its new direction into the 21st Century and angels and others unite in the cause, the devilish antics of The Prince of Darkness soon threaten His new plan and the inner sanctum of His spiritual world. Understanding full well that His continued path might ignite a war of the worlds between Him and the devil, He still proceeds with His Vision while bracing Himself for the test of wills and the exhibition of good-versus-evil events that inevitably will follow. Superbly funny, delightfully quirky, identifiably realistic, and often humanly poignant, Heavenly Business is a light-hearted and entertaining work of general fiction with magical realism that also brings together a young woman and a young man. But while the love story's premise might seem to be ordinary, the tale takes the reader on an extraordinary journey through a series of events that unites the celestial and earthly spheres to make this match-made-in-heaven love affair happen according to destiny. The story's endearing characters engage in bountiful banter and cut-above-the-rest dialogue about life, love, death, and the afterworlds of heaven and hell as they work as a team to bring the story to its heavenly conclusion.
