Book Maintenance Research Problem Statements

Download or read book Maintenance Research Problem Statements written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem statements in this circular represent a composite of efforts by eight of the Transportation Research Board Group 3, Section C committees. A standard system was not used to establish priority ratings and committee chairmen used different systems. The ordering of statements under individual committee listings reflects that committee's evaluation of priorities. Each problem statement contains a brief explanation of the problem, the objectives, current activities, and a statement on urgency.

Book Research Problem Statements

Download or read book Research Problem Statements written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Circular contains 52 research problem statements developed by 7 committees within Section C of the Transportation Research Board's Group 3 Council. They should not be considered an all inclusive recognition of maintenance research needs but, instead, represent only the problems identified by those committees. The committees are as follows: A3C01 - Maintenance and Operations Management; A3C02 - Transit Bus Maintenance; A3C04 - Traffic Safety in Maintenance and Construction Operations; A3C08 - Maintenance Equipment; A3C09 - Winter Maintenance; A3C12 - Coatings, Signing and Marking Materials; and A3C13 - Sealants and Fillers for Joints and Cracks. Each research problem statement contains a title, a description of the problem, objectives, current activities, and a statement of urgency.

Download or read book Public Benefits of Highway System Preservation and Maintenance written by Andrew C. Lemer and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2004 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 330: Public Benefits of Highway System Preservation and Maintenance examines the current practices for identifying, measuring, and articulating the public benefits of highway system maintenance and operation, and of communicating those benefits that are understandable and meaningful to stakeholders--road users, elected officials, and others who have an interest in the system's performance.

Book Transportation Systems

Download or read book Transportation Systems written by Sarbjeet Singh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-20 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the application of breakthrough technologies to improve transportation performance. Transportation systems represent the “blood vessels” of a society, in which people and goods travel. They also influence people’s lives and affect the liveability and sustainability of our cities. The book shows how emergent technologies are able to monitor the condition of the structure in real time in order to schedule the right moment for maintenance activities an so reduce the disturbance to users. This book is a valuable resource for those involved in research and development in this field. Part I discusses the context of transportation systems, highlighting the major issues and challenges, the importance of understating human factors that could affect the maintenance operations and the main goals in terms of safety standards. Part II focuses on process-oriented innovations in transportation systems; this section stresses the importance of including design parameters in the planning, offering a comparison between risk-based and condition-based maintenance and, lastly, showing applications of emergent technologies. Part III goes on to reflect on the technical-oriented innovations, discussing the importance of studying the physical phenomena that are behind transportation system failures and problems. It then introduces the general trend of collecting and analyzing big data using real-world cases to evaluate the positive and negative aspects of adopting extensive smart sensors for gathering information on the health of the assets. The last part (IV) explores cultural and behavioural changes, and new knowledge management methods, proposing novel forms of maintenance and vocational training, and introduces the need for radical new visions in transportation for managing unexpected events. The continuous evolution of maintenance fields suggests that this compendium of “state-of-the-art” applications will not be the only one; the authors are planning a collection of cutting-edge examples of transportation systems that can assist researchers and practitioners as well as students in the process of understanding the complex and multidisciplinary environment of maintenance engineering applied to the transport sector.

Book Stormwater Management for Transportation Facilities

Download or read book Stormwater Management for Transportation Facilities written by Shaw L. Yu and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1993 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to highway design engineers, maintenance engineers, environmental personnel, administrators, and others responsible for the design, operation, and maintenance of stormwater management for highways and ancillary facilities. Information is presented on the basic hydrology needed to assess stormwater impacts and on the effectiveness of stormwater management techniques. Designers of highway facilities must consider stormwater management requirements within the context of both localized runoff impacts, as well as downstream effects of runoff. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the management of both stormwater quantity and stormwater quality. Stormwater quantity includes an overview of methods of estimating runoff and management control practices. Stormwater quality management includes discussions of the most prevalent pollutants and best management practices (BMP) to minimize pollutants from transportation facilities. Various types of structural and non-structural methods are described, including their design considerations and efficiencies. Several stormwater management models are described, with special concern for highway applications. Highlights from the 1990 National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits are presented.
