Book excerpt: This Center for Army Lessons Learned (CALL) handbook is a collaboratively produced effort providing the Warfighter with techniques and strategies to successfully operate in a denied, degraded, and disrupted space operational environment (D3SOE). It provides information derived from lessons learned and best practices on how to effectively integrate space capabilities into mission planning, training, and mitigation strategies for operating in a D3SOE. The space domain is a vital component of the emerging concept of the multi-domain battle and the Warfighter is reliant on the capabilities it provides to be successful in executing operations. We must leverage space capabilities in preparation for current conflicts. Today's adversaries are aware of the U.S. military's use of space-enabled equipment and will try to disrupt those assets. The space domain is critically important to Joint/Coalition forces and it takes an integrated team effort to succeed and remain ahead of our potential adversaries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 5, Deep Maneuver: Historical Case Studies of Maneuver in Large-Scale Combat Operations, presents eleven case studies from World War II through Operation Iraqi Freedom focusing on deep maneuver in terms of time, space and purpose. Deep operations require boldness and audacity, and yet carry an element of risk of overextension - especially in light of the independent factors of geography and weather that are ever-present. As a result, the case studies address not only successes, but also failure and shortfalls that result when conducting deep operations. The final two chapters address these considerations for future Deep Maneuver.

Book Handbook for Tactical Operations in the Information Environment

Download or read book Handbook for Tactical Operations in the Information Environment written by Michael Schwille and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Early-career officers in tactical units must understand and operate in an increasingly complex information environment. Poor communication with command-level decisionmakers and errors in judgment can be costly in the face of sophisticated adversary capabilities and while operating among civilian populations. There are few opportunities for formal education and training to help officers prepare for operations in the information environment (OIE), and it can be difficult to know how to employ the tactics, techniques, and procedures of tactical-level maneuver-focused operations in support of OIE-related capabilities and activities. With its quick-reference format and series of illustrative vignettes, this handbook is intended to facilitate tactical problem-solving and increase officers' awareness of when and how they can contribute to the goals of OIE."--Back cover.

Book excerpt: Lethal and Non-Lethal Fires: Historical Case Studies of Converging Cross-Domain Fires in Large Scale Combat Operations, provides a collection of ten historical case studies from World War I through Desert Storm. The case studies detail the use of lethal and non-lethal fires conducted by US, British, Canadian, and Israeli forces against peer or near-peer threats. The case studies span the major wars of the twentieth-century and present the doctrine the various organizations used, together with the challenges the leaders encountered with the doctrine and the operational environment, as well as the leaders' actions and decisions during the conduct of operations. Most importantly, each chapter highlights the lessons learned from those large scale combat operations, how they were applied or ignored and how they remain relevant today and in the future.

Book Space Capstone Publication Spacepower

Download or read book Space Capstone Publication Spacepower written by Us Government United States Space Force and published by . This book was released on 2020-08-11 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, Space Capstone Publication Spacepower: Doctrine for Space Forces, is capstone doctrine for the United States Space Force and represents our Service's first articulation of an independent theory of spacepower. This publication answers why spacepower is vital for our Nation, how military spacepower is employed, who military space forces are, and what military space forces value. In short, this capstone document is the foundation of our professional body of knowledge as we forge an independent military Service committed to space operations. Like all doctrine, the SCP remains subject to the policies and strategies that govern its employment. Military spacepower has deterrent and coercive capacities - it provides independent options for National and Joint leadership but achieves its greatest potential when integrated with other forms of military power. As we grow spacepower theory and doctrine, we must do so in a way that fosters greater integration with the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. It is only by achieving true integration and interdependence that we can hope to unlock spacepower's full potential.

Book Impacts of Anti access area Denial Measures on Space Systems

Download or read book Impacts of Anti access area Denial Measures on Space Systems written by Jeffrey L. Caton and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The utilization of space-based capabilities is an established part of modern military operations. This monograph explores what might happen if an adversary applied anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) measures to U.S. space systems and how this might affect Army and joint operations. To accomplish this goal, this research focuses on the central question: What are ways for the U.S. Army to assure the success of its space-dependent warfighting functions in an A2/AD environment where space systems are degraded for significant periods of time? This inquiry is divided into three parts. First, it analyzes the space capabilities of potential adversaries as well as the technologies required and the nations that possess such capabilities. Second, it explores the strategic implications of such attacks and their potential effects on elements of national power, and then concentrates on operational effects if space systems were degraded or made unavailable to the Army and other joint warfighters. Third, it examines current measures that may mitigate the negative effects of adversary A2/AD activities as well as possible alternative space capabilities under development. This monograph includes recommendations for U.S. defense leadership with regard to strategic and operational opportunities to enhance A2/AD mitigation activities and the effectiveness of U.S. space power writ large. As with the land, sea, and air commons, the peaceful pursuit of economic, diplomatic, and informational ends in space often requires the support of a capable and restrained military space force. The continued preeminence of U.S. military space capabilities depends on deliberate efforts to ensure access to and freedom of movement within the space domain.

The fundamental idea of Signal Corps tactics is the employment and ordered arrangement of Signal forces in a supporting role to provide LandWarNet across the range of military operations. The detailed techniques regarding the ways and methods to accomplish the missions, functions or tasks of the Signal Corps indicated in this FM will be addressed in supporting Army techniques publications (ATPs). Army forces operate worldwide and require a secure and reliable communications capability that rapidly adapts to changing demands.

Book Airpower against an Army Challenge and Response in CENTAF s Duel with the Republican Guard

Download or read book Airpower against an Army Challenge and Response in CENTAF s Duel with the Republican Guard written by William F. Andrews and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For nearly two decades the United States Air Force (USAF) oriented the bulk of its thinking, acquisition, planning, and training on the threat of a Soviet blitzkrieg across the inter German border. The Air Force fielded a powerful conventional arm well rehearsed in the tactics required to operate over a central European battlefield. Then, in a matter of days, the 1990 invasion of Kuwait altered key assumptions that had been developed over the previous decade and a half. The USAF faced a different foe employing a different military doctrine in an unexpected environment. Instead of disrupting a fast paced land offensive, the combat wings of the United States Central Command Air Forces (CENTAF) were ordered to attack a large, well fortified, and dispersed Iraqi ground force. The heart of that ground force was the Republican Guard Forces Command (RGFC). CENTAF's mission dictated the need to develop an unfamiliar repertoire of tactics and procedures to meet theater objectives. How effectively did CENTAF adjust air operations against the Republican Guard to the changing realities of combat? Answering that question is central to this study, and the answer resides in evaluation of the innovations developed by CENTAF to improve its operational and tactical performance against the Republican Guard. Effectiveness and timeliness are the primary criteria used for evaluating innovations.

Book Evolving Army Needs for Space Based Support

Download or read book Evolving Army Needs for Space Based Support written by Jeffrey L. Caton and published by Department of the Army. This book was released on 2015-04 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Army has been involved with space-based military operations for well over a half-century. During this time, space operations have changed from a realm exclusive to scientists and engineers, to highly classified activities largely unknown to the general population, to the unveiling of space-based communication, imagery, surveillance, and environment capabilities that have become a foundation for all modern warfare. Today, such support is so ingrained into daily operations that most soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines assume it has been, and always will be, available for their use. But with such reliance comes vulnerability that potential adversaries may try to exploit. The evolution of Army space operations is well-documented in many sources, thus this monograph serves not as a comprehensive history or detailed critique of the myriad accomplishments. Rather, it serves as a primer for current and future space-based operations to provide senior policymakers, decisionmakers, military leaders, and their respective staffs, an overall appreciation for existing Army space capabilities and the challenges, opportunities, and risks associated with their use in joint operations. Download or read book Urban Operations written by Department of the Army and published by . This book was released on 2014-03-28 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doctrine provides a military organization with a common philosophy, a language, a purpose, and unity of effort. Rather than establishing a set of hard and fast rules, the objective of doctrine is to foster initiative and creative thinking. To this end, FM 3-06 discusses major Army operations in an urban environment. This environment, consisting of complex terrain, a concentrated population, and an infrastructure of systems, is an operational environment in which Army forces will operate. In the future, it may be the predominant operational environment. Each urban operation is unique and will differ because of the multitude of combinations presented by the threat, the urban area itself, the major operation of which it may be part (or the focus), and the fluidity of societal and geopolitical considerations. Therefore, there will always exist an innate tension between Army doctrine, the actual context of the urban operation, and future realities. Commanders must strike the proper balance between maintaining the capability to respond to current threats and preparing for future challenges.

Book Joint Urban Operations

Download or read book Joint Urban Operations written by Joint Chiefs Of Staff and published by . This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication has been prepared under the direction of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS). It sets forth joint doctrine to govern the activities and performance of the Armed Forces of the United States in joint operations and provides the doctrinal basis for interagency coordination and for US military involvement in multinational operations. It provides military guidance for the exercise of authority by combatant commanders and other joint force commanders (JFCs) and prescribes joint doctrine for operations, education, and training. It provides military guidance for use by the Armed Forces in preparing their appropriate plans. It is not the intent of this publication to restrict the authority of the JFC from organizing the force and executing the mission in a manner the JFC deems most appropriate to ensure unity of effort in the accomplishment of the overall objective.

Book FM 3 13 Information Operations

Download or read book FM 3 13 Information Operations written by Department Of the Army and published by . This book was released on 2016-12 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information operations (IO) creates effects in and through the information environment. IO optimizes the information element of combat power and supports and enhances all other elements in order to gain an operational advantage over an enemy or adversary. These effects are intended to influence, disrupt, corrupt or usurp enemy or adversary decision making and everything that enables it, while enabling and protecting friendly decision making. Because IO's central focus is affecting decision making and, by extension, the will to fight, commanders personally ensure IO is integrated into operations from the start
