Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents new information on OPEC in the 21st century, oil prices and liquefied natural gas. An analysis of selected methodologies and applications in the oil exploration industry is included. The study of the interactive nature of activities between financial and petroleum markets, the dynamic behaviour of oil price volatility and the linkages between the prices of oil futures on different exchanges are also discussed. An theoretical analysis is made on the impact of a rise in the world price of oil on inflation, output, employment and welfare in a small open economy. The relationship between the volatility of oil products and other products indirectly dependent on oil is also considered. This book presents a generalisation of cartel models by incorporating both world demand and supply conditions into OPEC pricing. Furthermore, potential effects of an ad valorem tariff, non-cartel output, and alternative fuels on OPEC'S behaviour are investigated. Output growth and oil consumption in China are also explored.

Book The Opec Natural Gas Dilemma

Download or read book The Opec Natural Gas Dilemma written by Bijan Mossavar-rahmani and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-26 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The OPEC countries possess an estimated one-third of total world natural gas reserves, but they produce relatively small volumes of this clean, convenient, and flexible fuel, and much of what is produced is flared and wasted for lack of demand. Historically, the major barrier to full utilization of OPEC's natural gas potential has been the high cost of gathering, processing, and transporting natural gas–relative to cheap and easily available crude oil. Now, higher prices make a stepped-up international gas trade economically viable for the first time, but a host of formidable geopolitical, financial, risk-sharing, environmental, and other barriers remain to be resolved. This volume, a primer on natural gas and international natural gas trade, also provides an inside view of how the OPEC countries view their options with respect to the medium- and long-term development of this important source of domestic energy and export earnings. The authors discuss the trade prospects and problems facing the OPEC nations, examine OPEC efforts to formulate a uniform price and export policy, and explore potential patterns of cooperation between exporters and importers. The authors also include current statistics on global natural gas supply and demand balances, as well as information on OPEC domestic natural gas projects and export contracts, both existing and planned.

Book Oil Prices and the Future of OPEC

Download or read book Oil Prices and the Future of OPEC written by Theodore H. Moran and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-09-16 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The policy of the United States and, by extension, that of many oil importing countries, toward OPEC countries is in large part a function of an estimate of the factors that condition oil decisions in exporting countries. In this title, originally published in 1978, Ted Moran examines how immune OPEC can expect to be to the struggles over market shares that traditionally have beset attempts to organize natural resource cartels. Moran’s research leads him to argue that skyrocketing commitments to growth and social betterment leave little slack in national budgets and thus preclude output reductions for any extended period, or at least act as a substantial deterrent, unless such reductions come in support of an effort to raise real oil prices substantially. For any student interested in international policy making, economic development, or environmental studies, this title offers fascinating insights into the oil industry.

Book Global Implications of Lower Oil Prices

Download or read book Global Implications of Lower Oil Prices written by Mr.Aasim M. Husain and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sharp drop in oil prices is one of the most important global economic developments over the past year. The SDN finds that (i) supply factors have played a somewhat larger role than demand factors in driving the oil price drop, (ii) a substantial part of the price decline is expected to persist into the medium term, although there is large uncertainty, (iii) lower oil prices will support global growth, (iv) the sharp oil price drop could still trigger financial strains, and (v) policy responses should depend on the terms-of-trade impact, fiscal and external vulnerabilities, and domestic cyclical position.

Book Petroleum Prices

Download or read book Petroleum Prices written by William Morle Brown and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The widespread need for a realistic perspective on the likely trends in future petroleum prices first became obvious during the 1970s, and again in the mid-1980s. Businessmen associated with the petroleum trade need a rational outlook on prices; judging from past experience, however, they seem ready to adopt whatever conventional wisdom emerges about likely future trends. One of the purposes of this analysis is to determine what led earlier forecasts so far astray, and to set forth some important lessons that could lead to an improved forecasting methodology. A second purpose is to provide an analysis of the current situation in the international oil market and its implications for future petroleum prices over the near-term, mid-term, and long-term. By applying some realistic judgments about the inherent uncertainties in the principal factors likely to affect those prices, a perspective is developed that is intended to be helpful to buyers, sellers, and governments around the world, even though it does not rest upon a single trajectory of likely future petroleum prices. Keywords: Economic analysis; Forecasting; Natural gas; Crude oil.
