Book Aircraft Aerodynamic Parameter Estimation from Flight Data Using Neural Partial Differentiation

Download or read book Aircraft Aerodynamic Parameter Estimation from Flight Data Using Neural Partial Differentiation written by Majeed Mohamed and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-23 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents neural partial differentiation as an estimation algorithm for extracting aerodynamic derivatives from flight data. It discusses neural modeling of the aircraft system. The neural partial differentiation approach discussed in the book helps estimate parameters with their statistical information from the noisy data. Moreover, this method avoids the need for prior information about the aircraft model parameters. The objective of the book is to extend the use of the neural partial differentiation method to the multi-input multi-output aircraft system for the online estimation of aircraft parameters from an established neural model. This approach will be relevant for the design of an adaptive flight control system. The book also discusses the estimation of aerodynamic derivatives of rigid and flexible aircraft which are treated separately. The longitudinal and lateral-directional derivatives of aircraft are estimated from flight data. Besides the aerodynamic derivatives, mode shape parameters of flexible aircraft are also identified in the book as part of identification for the state space aircraft model. Since the detailed description of the approach is illustrated through the block diagram and their results are presented in tabular form with figures of parameters converge to their estimates, the contents of this book are intended for readers who want to pursue a postgraduate and doctoral degree in science and engineering. This book is useful for practicing scientists, engineers, and teachers in the field of aerospace engineering.

Book GPS INS Integration for Improved Aircraft Attitude Estimates

Download or read book GPS INS Integration for Improved Aircraft Attitude Estimates written by Daniel T. Bagley and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents research into the design, implementation, and analysis of a post-mission navigation error estimation algorithm for the Electronic Counter-Countermeasures/Advanced Radar Test Bed (ARTB). In order to quantify the effects of Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) on a given radar accurately, extremely accurate navigation information for ARTB and a given test target must be available for use as reference or truth data. Presently, the ARTB navigation subsystem provides adequate accuracy in position and velocity; however, its computation of attitude does not meet the level of accuracy required for airborne radar flight testing. An extended Kalman filter algorithm is implemented in a filter-driving-filter configuration to integrate the outputs of a Global Positioning System Receiver 3A and a SNU 84-1 Inertial Navigation System in order to estimate and compensate for inertial navigation system errors. The specific objective of integrating the two systems is to enhance the accuracy of ARTB's attitude indications. Outputs from the 12-state GPS Kalman filter simulation are used as measurements in the 23-state Integration Kalman Filter. Monte Carlo simulations are run for measurement update intervals of 5, 10, and 15 seconds, and for both benign (less than 2-g) and highly dynamic (up to 9-g) flight scenarios. Cross-correlation between GPS Kalman filter estimation errors and true INS system errors is also examined. Results indicate that this i8ntegration scheme provides an increase in accuracy for position and velocity of up to 98%, and an increase in accuracy for attitude of up to 88% over the unaided INS alone.

Book excerpt: Control Systems: Classical, Modern, and AI-Based Approaches provides a broad and comprehensive study of the principles, mathematics, and applications for those studying basic control in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, and other engineering disciplines. The text builds a strong mathematical foundation of control theory of linear, nonlinear, optimal, model predictive, robust, digital, and adaptive control systems, and it addresses applications in several emerging areas, such as aircraft, electro-mechanical, and some nonengineering systems: DC motor control, steel beam thickness control, drum boiler, motional control system, chemical reactor, head-disk assembly, pitch control of an aircraft, yaw-damper control, helicopter control, and tidal power control. Decentralized control, game-theoretic control, and control of hybrid systems are discussed. Also, control systems based on artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, and genetic algorithms, termed as AI-based systems are studied and analyzed with applications such as auto-landing aircraft, industrial process control, active suspension system, fuzzy gain scheduling, PID control, and adaptive neuro control. Numerical coverage with MATLAB® is integrated, and numerous examples and exercises are included for each chapter. Associated MATLAB® code will be made available.

Book Parameter Estimation Methods for High Angle of attack Aerodynamic Modelling

Download or read book Parameter Estimation Methods for High Angle of attack Aerodynamic Modelling written by Jordan Leung and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, extensive research has been performed in post-stall aerodynamic model development to facilitate the use of simulator-based stall recovery training for commercial pilots. To develop these aerodynamic models, the parameters within a postulated model structure are often estimated from flight test data in a process referred to as aircraft parameter estimation. However, the complex dynamics involved in stall poses some notable challenges to the parameter estimation procedure. This thesis presents and investigates a variety of parameter estimation methods that yield more accurate estimates than traditional techniques when applied to stall modelling problems. Specifically, these methods look to reduce parameter biases that occur during post-stall modelling problems due to the presence of large model deficiencies. The presented methods are applied to both simulated and real aircraft flight data to demonstrate the improvements seen over traditional aircraft parameter estimation methods.

Book Implementation of a Personal Computer Based Parameter Estimation Program

Download or read book Implementation of a Personal Computer Based Parameter Estimation Program written by Robert Gordon Graham and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aircraft parameter estimation is the process of extracting numerical values for aerodynamic stability and control derivatives from flight test time history data. This process can be used as a verification or validation tool for results obtained from wind-tunnel testing or through computational analysis, and can obtain or improve estimations of dynamic derivatives. This study implements the MATLAB Personal Computer (PC) based maximum likelihood estimation routine for aircraft longitudinal and lateral-directional derivatives. The parameter estimation was first accomplished on generated simulated data, with and without noise. The noise consisted of measurement and state noise which used the Dryden Gust Model. Secondly, two actual longitudinal flight-test maneuvers are analyzed for the F-14A and the T-37 aircraft. Additionally, the simulated portion of this study can be an excellent instructional aid in Flight Dynamics and Flight Test Courses.
