Book Many Voices One World

Download or read book Many Voices One World written by International Commission for the Study of Communication Problems and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2004 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1980 and now back in print, Many Voices, One World came out of hundreds of international studies and proposed reforms for global communication media to ensure a free flow of information. Prepared by the distinguished MacBride Commission--and frequently referred to as the MacBride Report--it criticized corporate control of media flows and suggested ways to make media production accessible in poorer countries. Beginning with the right of individuals and nations to communicate, this report tackled problems related to government controls, censorship, one-way flows of information, cultural dominance, and commercialization of the mass media. It called for more voices, more freedom of expression, and the protection of journalists' rights. Still widely taught and cited, the MacBride Report is a key work in the history of communication that continues to be relevant today.

Book The Rapture One World Government and the Great Tribulation

Download or read book The Rapture One World Government and the Great Tribulation written by Luis Muñoz and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2013-08-13 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains in great detail and exceptional clarity the issues related to the rapture of the Church, the government of the Antichrist, the great tribulation and all the apocalyptic judgments which God will pour out upon the wicked world. The rapture of the Church will bring about the global collapse of the economic, political and religious institutions of the world. At that moment of monumental crisis, humanity will quickly look for a leader willing to put the world back together, offer them peace and security. The world will host a false prince of peace called the Antichrist. He will elate the masses by telling them what they want to hear. However, he will push humanity to the deepest levels of degradation, vice, immorality, crime, war, violence, and rebellion against God. He will corrupt the social and moral order and as a result, billions of people will die. He will plunge the world into spiritual darkness and lead humanity astray. The Antichrists empire shall devour the whole earth trample it and break it in pieces (Daniel 7:23 NKJV). This will be a period characterized by widespread wars which will bring death to billions of people: For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be (Mark 13:19 NKJV). During this period, 25 and 33 per cent of the world population will die in two major wars. If these conflicts were to happen in our time, 3.56 billion people would die. However, before the Antichrist begins, God will take out of this world, all those who believe in Christ. Seven years later, the Lord Jesus will return to destroy those who destroy the earth (Rev. 11:18b) and establish His everlasting kingdom on Earth. Then, The wolf and the lamb shall feed together. The lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpents food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, says the LORD (Isaiah 65:25 NKJV).

  • ISBN : 0791499332
  • Pages : 226 pages

Download or read book The Sense of Vocation written by Larry Cochran and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 1990-07-05 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Larry Cochran examines the meaning of a sense of vocation as it is lived over the course of a life. By studying more than twenty autobiographies of people who clearly had a mission in life, the author identifies commonalities and weaves them into a general story or plot. The common story involves a detailed description of four phases of life from childhood through old age. It illustrates how a significant form that unifies desire arises in youth, how individuals transform themselves to adopt a meaningful role in a drama, how a work of life develops, and how a sense of vocation culminates. Thus, the book is important as a descriptive answer to the question of what makes life meaningful. It provides a paradigm case of career at its best.

Book One World Now

  • Pages : 281 pages

Download or read book One World Now written by Peter Singer and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2016-09-27 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One World Now seamlessly integrates major developments of the past decade into Peter Singer's classic text on the ethics of globalization, One World. Singer, often described as the world's most influential philosopher, here addresses such essential concerns as climate change, economic globalization, foreign aid, human rights, immigration, and the responsibility to protect people from genocide and crimes against humanity, whatever country they may be in. Every issue is considered from an ethical perspective. This thoughtful and important study poses bold challenges to narrow nationalistic views and offers valuable alternatives to the state-centric approach that continues to dominate ethics and international theory. Singer argues powerfully that we cannot solve the world’s problems at a national level, and shows how we should build on developments that are already transcending national differences. This is an instructive and necessary work that confronts head-on both the perils and the potentials inherent in globalization.

Download or read book New World Drama written by Elizabeth Maddock Dillon and published by Duke University Press Books. This book was released on 2014-09-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In New World Drama, Elizabeth Maddock Dillon turns to the riotous scene of theatre in the eighteenth-century Atlantic world to explore the creation of new publics. Moving from England to the Caribbean to the early United States, she traces the theatrical emergence of a collective body in the colonized New World—one that included indigenous peoples, diasporic Africans, and diasporic Europeans. In the raucous space of the theatre, the contradictions of colonialism loomed large. Foremost among these was the central paradox of modernity: the coexistence of a massive slave economy and a nascent politics of freedom. Audiences in London eagerly watched the royal slave, Oroonoko, tortured on stage, while audiences in Charleston and Kingston were forbidden from watching the same scene. Audiences in Kingston and New York City exuberantly participated in the slaying of Richard III on stage, enacting the rise of the "people," and Native American leaders were enjoined to watch actors in blackface "jump Jim Crow." Dillon argues that the theater served as a "performative commons," staging debates over representation in a political world based on popular sovereignty. Her book is a capacious account of performance, aesthetics, and modernity in the eighteenth-century Atlantic world.

This probing question has to be in the mind and thought of every child of God. It is important to remind the reader of this book that ideas and issues that you contemplate in this book will be of no use to you if Jesus is not your Savior. However, if you have picked up this book to read, it means that there is one more opportunity to make Jesus your Lord and Savior. Reflect and reveal your wisdom to me for it is in your name that I do pray. Amen.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Heavens, One Earth is a collection of first-person voices from nine of the world religions. In fifteen articles, devotees and scholars reveal the contributions these traditions make to informing and motivating an ecological response to the environmental issues that beset planet earth. The spiritual messages of world religions have an indispensable and decisive role to play in addressing these environmental problems, for, at their root, these ecological issues are spiritual problems: Unless greed is replaced by moderation and sharing, materialism by spiritual insights and values, consumerism by restraint and simpler living, exploitation by respect and service, and pollution by caring and protection, nature’s hospitality will be foolishly rebuffed, and therefore our descendants will inherit a polluted and depleted earth. Religion can be, and must be, a part of this replacement. Since at least 90% of the world’s people claim allegiance to various major world religious traditions, religion can exert a crucial and transforming influence.

Book Atomics in the Classroom

Download or read book Atomics in the Classroom written by Michael Scheibach and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2015-11-18 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the August 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and Japan's unconditional surrender, America's educational community quickly focused on preparing the younger generation for the atomic age. With the support of the federal government, elementary and secondary schools developed a curriculum known as "atomics," emphasizing the bomb's destructive power, peaceful applications of the atom and, most important, the need to control nuclear research. By the 1950s, with the Soviet Union's acquiring of the bomb, "atomics" expanded to include civil defense topics and activities, such as "duck and cover" drills. This book examines the broad curriculum--in social studies, science, mathematics, English, home economics and art--that emphasized atomics in American classrooms of the early postwar era. Lesson plans, class projects and activities, resource materials and extracurricular experiences are included.
