Book A Tiny Universe S Companion

Download or read book A Tiny Universe S Companion written by Joy Usher and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-05-31 with total page 765 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Tiny Universe's Companion accompanies A Tiny Universe, a textbook on astrology which is based on one version of the Birth-Chart of the Universe known as Thema Mundi. Companion expands on the fi rst book by exploring a number of techniques which were refined by astrologers several centuries ago, but have since lost their significance in modern times. Practices such as the division between day and night which creates the accidental dignity of Planetary Sect, and the forgotten rule of Contention (munakara) which warns of the danger of crossing boundaries, are both reminders of the impact of Sect on the seven original planets. A first century predictive system originating in Persia called Firdaria has been re-introduced in the past few years and is once more gaining in popularity. Firdaria relies heavily on the principles of Sect to direct the individual's lifespan via different planetary periods along with the sequencing of planets according to the Chaldean Order. This method is examined in detail in the final chapters of Companion using modernized interpretations of text from 1st Century astrologer Vettius Valens, and Johannes Schoener from the 16th Century C.E. Planets' rulership over the twelve houses is a cornerstone of traditional astrology's chart interpretation and a ruling planet's condition determines its success or failure in managing the aff airs of its house. Issues such as mediocre quality, troublesome relationships, poor placement, or lack of sight (aversion) suggest stress for the planet and indicate difficult repercussions in the areas of life for which the ruling planet is responsible. Patterns which normally lie unseen or dormant within the chart become animated through rulership, and with the reintroduction of lost models, the chart, and life on Earth once more become reflections of the larger Universe.

Book excerpt: We present here the last version of Darwin Methodology initially created to “see the Web more and better” that evolved to see the Web as a World of Avatars instead, cyber creatures that represent our past and present ideas and thoughts and even all type of intellectual speculations about our possible futures. This idea is not new: it goes back along centuries diluted and hidden as archetypes and models like “Romeo and Juliet”, “Don Quixote”, “Ulysses”, “Democracy”, “El Príncipe”, the Avatars of Hinduism, and actually as Cyber creatures by visionaries and scientists like Stephen Hawking. Why was it hidden for so long? Because only from very recently exist suitable cyber reservoirs to host The ALL almost “naturally”, openly and freely: The Web.

Book Conspiracy Culture

Download or read book Conspiracy Culture written by Dr Peter Knight and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conspiracy theories are everywhere in post-war American culture. From postmodern novels to The X-Files and from gangsta rap to feminist polemic, there is a widespread suspicion that sinister forces are conspiring to take control of our national destiny, our minds, and even our bodies. Conspiracy explanations can no longer be dismissed as the paranoid delusions of far-right crackpots. Indeed, they have become a necessary response to a risky and increasingly globalized world, in which everything is connected but nothing adds up. Peter Knight provides an engaging and cogent analysis of the development of conspiracy culture, from 1960s' countercultural suspicions about the authorities to the 1990s, where a paranoid attitude is both routine and ironic. Conspiracy Culture analyses conspiracy narratives about familiar topics like the Kennedy assassination, alien abduction, body horror, AIDS, crack cocaine, the New World Order, as well as more unusual ones like the conspiracies of patriarchy and white supremacy. Conspiracy Culture shows how Americans have come to distrust not only the narratives of the authorities, but even the authority of narrative itself to explain What Is Really Going On. From the complexities of Thomas Pynchon's novels to the endless mysteries of The X-Files, Knight argues that contemporary conspiracy culture is marked by an infinite regress of suspicion. Trust no one, because we have met the enemy and it is us.

Book Decolonization in Practice

Download or read book Decolonization in Practice written by Ranjan Datta and published by Canadian Scholars’ Press. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decolonization in Practice speaks to the practical work of dismantling colonial ideologies and features contributions from Indigenous, Black, racialized immigrant, refugee, and ally scholars, researchers, and practitioners who share their experiences enacting decolonizing work in their communities. Each chapter presents stories of inspiration, resistance, unlearning, relearning, and transformation on the journey towards reconciliation. This edited collection asks, “How do we understand anti-racist practice as a framework for reconciliation?” “How can we identify areas of obstacle and opportunity?” and “How can we take responsibility for decolonizing our ways of knowing and acting?” These questions are asked in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s assertion that meaningful engagement among Indigenous Peoples and non-Indigenous people will be key in advancing reconciliation through anti-racist solidarity. Contributors share personal decolonial stories and explore taking responsibility for building a decolonial community from and within everyday practice for transforming our learning into action to achieve social and environmental justice goals. This unique collection serves a variety of courses, including as a primary text for upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in Canada focused on decolonization, as a supplementary text for introductory-level courses in Canada that are incorporating discussions of decolonization, and as a primary or supplementary text for international courses.

With practical case studies from church communities around England, it offers examples to inspire readers to go further, imagining how they and their churches might witness more richly, as well as put their dreams into action. Designed for churches and small groups to study together, it also includes reflections on the case studies and questions to help readers put their thinking into practice.

Book When Freedom Is the Question Abolition Is the Answer

Download or read book When Freedom Is the Question Abolition Is the Answer written by Bill Ayers and published by Beacon Press. This book was released on 2024-09-10 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An esteemed activist invites us to consider the complex idea of abolition as much more than a strategy or a set of tactics—at a deeper level, abolition is an entire political framework, culture, and orientation Blending history and political theory and weaving in examples from literature, social movements, and his personal life, this book is a useful resource and primer for those interested in fighting for social justice. Guided by questions like what is freedom?, how do we get free?, and what are the freedom dreams that encourage us and drive us forward?, esteemed activist Bill Ayers explores the concept of freedom in eight essays: Freedom/Unfreedom takes off from the Black Freedom Movement in the 20th Century as a template for social justice movements that followed, and begins to illuminate the idea of freedom in light of what folks come together to oppose. Freedom’s Paradox offers examples of a contradiction (from Frederick Douglass to the French Resistance to the Panthers)—even, or especially, in the most dire circumstances, people testify to “being free” at the moment they identify and unite to oppose unfreedom. Social Freedom/Individual Liberty directly takes on the link between the individual and the social when freedom is the question. Freedom, Anarchism, and Socialism takes off from the idea that freedom without socialism is predation and exploitation, and that socialism without freedom is bondage and subjugation. Freedom, Truth, and Repair considers reparations as a necessary step in any honest attempt toward authentic reconciliation. Organizing Freedom is a primer on organizing, strategy, and tactics for freedom fighters. Teach Freedom considers what an education for free people entails. Freedom and Abolition connects an enriched understanding of what freedom entails with an embrace of abolitionist politics.
