Book excerpt: TENNIS--One Shot at a Time offers lots of ideas and tips for the recreational tennis player. It is based on the simple idea that tennis should, most of all, be a fun activity, as well as providing challenge and competition. It covers topics like How to keep things simple in tennis How to focus and enhance your consistency Winning for fun, but never at all cost Finding people you enjoy playing and competing with Making tennis a fun game for kids, and how to be a tennis parent Tips for doubles and mixed doubles Full of humorous comments and drawings, there are also many practical tips on how to play a tie-breaker, how to set up a recreational tournament, how to select a racket and string, what to do about tennis elbow, and many more. "There is no more glory in winning your match from your regular tennis buddy than the satisfaction that, today, what you tried to do, worked. The fun was in trying to win, not to defeat your friend. If you go out on the court with the desire to do your best, your share of wins will happen. Best of all, you give yourself and your opponent a good time." Book Once Upon a Game

Download or read book Once Upon a Game written by Michael Kindred and published by Pneuma Springs Publishing. This book was released on 2013-05-30 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do you get an idea for a game? What’s involved in developing it and making an initial prototype? How important is play-testing, and whom do you involve in that process? What are the tips for writing rules? How do you go about trying to get your idea onto the marketplace? What are the important parts of a contract? This book won’t provide all the answers, but it will give you an insight into the fascinating, and sometimes frustrating world of games inventing based on Michael’s 55 years of experience of the successes and failures; the laughter and tears, the delight and the boredom. Along the way he met his wonderful wife, Maggie, and had a child who loves games - what a surprise! And worked with some great friends and colleagues. For about 30 years, Maggie and Michael and some of these people shared in the writing of books, mainly ones to do with groupwork, communication, teamwork and social care. You will also find out about a collaboration which saw a couple of books about cryptic crosswords launched. Book reviews online: PublishedBestsellers website.

Download or read book Manuscript Missing written by Carl Frey Constein and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2006-10-19 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kent and Angie Rowen . . . have everything going for them—popular, good jobs, happy children and grandchildren, prominent parents. They are the last couple the people of Newbridge would expect to have a midlife crisis. Trouble on paradise begins when Kent, successful insurance agent, decides to follow his Walter Mitty dream of becoming an author. Not content with one published novel he is at work on a second, With Hoops of Steel. Night after night he secludes himself in his den, slaving away feverishly at his laptop, neglecting his wife. He is a chapter shy of finishing the manuscript when the sky falls: his laptop and backup CD are stolen! He sinks into a major life-event depression. No one in the family is spared the grief. His psychotherapist is about to recommend new and dangerous deep brain surgery when there’s word that With Hoops of Steel has been spotted in the bookstore. Will this push Kent deeper into his black hole, or will it put him on the road to recovery? But how can he prove the book is his? Hmm. His professor-friend Scott Navano knows. The turn of the millennium seemed to me as good a time as any to leave behind a lifetime of nose-to-the-grindstone adventures as WWII pilot, English teacher, and school superintendent in order to chase my favorite phantom—becoming an author. In the first scene of Manuscript Missing we get an early hint of how devastated amateur writer Kent Rowen would become if somehow his manuscript disappeared. Guess what. It happens. I hasten to mention that Angie, his wife, is also missing. We watch as the Rowens and their families cope with the crisis. We empathize with Kent and Angie in their deep depression, loneliness, and utter despair. We follow other characters chasing their phantoms, some similar, by coincidence I’m sure, to may own. We watch a psychoanalyst, a lawyer, and a literary critic at work—fragments, no doubt, of someone’s Walter Mitty dreams.

Download or read book The Little Green Book of Tennis written by Tom Parham and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-04-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Golf is a disease, not a game. Especially when you take the game up in your fifties, as I did. After a series of injuries stopped my recreational tennis play, and my retirement from a lifetime of coaching and teaching tennis, I tried golf. It didn't take long to realize it was not an easy endeavor. Someone said, "You can't learn anything from a golf book, but you have to read a lot of golf books to find that out!" I found the gurus of golf instruction: Ledbetter, Pelz, and Hogan, who was said to have written the book with the secret! I did find one that really attracted me but in a somewhat different way.

Book Winning Tennis with the Tactical Point Control System

Download or read book Winning Tennis with the Tactical Point Control System written by John Ruder and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2019-01-18 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tennis is not a game for the faint of heart. It is one of the few sports where a player must not only keep score but also act as both umpire and referee. A tennis match has no time clock, no halftime, no timeouts, no substitutions, and can last anywhere from thirty minutes to four hours. During that time, players may run over five miles and hit well over a thousand shots. In the end, both the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat rest solely upon the players’ shoulders. So what can a player do today to win more games than not? John Ruder relies on thirty-five years of coaching and teaching tennis to share a Tactical Point Control System that breaks the tennis point into four distinct phases, teaches competitors how to play in each phase, provides a checkpoint system that allows players to discover why they are winning or losing each point, and shares guidance on how to develop a game plan that enables players to better compete against opponents of all levels. Winning Tennis with the Tactical Point Control System shares a simple and effective game plan that allows tennis players to excel in the game and score points against their toughest opponents.

The mysteries behind the winning strokes, equipment, and surfaces of the game of tennis are accessibly explained by Howard Brody through the laws of physics. And he gives practical pointers to ways players can use this understanding to advantage in the game. Through extensive laboratory testing and computer modeling, Brody has investigated the physics behind the shape of the tennis racket, the string pattern, the bounce of the tennis ball, the ways a particular court surface can determine the speed of the game, and the many other physical factors involved in tennis.
