Book One Hundred and One Things Malay

Download or read book One Hundred and One Things Malay written by GHULAM-SARWAR YOUSOF and published by Partridge Publishing Singapore. This book was released on 2015-12-30 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, dedicated by its author to all who understand or do not understand the Malays as well as to those who wish to know them better, provides a rare and insightful entry into those elements that best define and represent the Malaysian Malay community. Fully aware of the fact that the Malays, as a relatively small race in global terms, has been influenced in terms of their traditional beliefs as well as cultural practices by elements from India, Indonesia as well as the World of Islam, the author yet manages to successfully indicate what makes the Malays unique when it comes to their identity. In essence, he catches the spirit or soul of the Malays. The features selected for this purpose have been defined or described in a relatively uncomplicated manner and in simple terms so that the work is accessible to non-expert readers both at home and abroad. It makes an interesting and almost casual entry into what may be defined as Malay. The photographs and illustrations provided add value to the work, which in many ways is a unique piece of writing.

Book excerpt: The earliest European account of the existence of the were-tiger comes from the Malacca Portuguese records. British Victorian era explorers to Malaya not only recorded stories about the were-tiger but told of several were-tiger villages hidden deep in the jungles of Malaya. These mythical shapeshifters struck fear in rural Malay society as they were able to kill their unsuspecting victims, usually out of vengeance. The Were-Tiger was written by the renowned Malayan colonial Sir Hugh Clifford and it was originally published in 1916. It is a short story of a village’s experience with a migrant Sumatran trader and a supernatural big cat that occurred in Slim, Pahang. Sir Hugh Clifford served as the British Resident at Pahang and later as British High Commissioner in Malaya.

Book excerpt: This stunning book will take us through an intellectual journey of "Human" and "Religion". "Bharat" has a rich history, unfortunately Bharat history was written under the influence of westerns. A must read for all. Quran and Bible from the incident of Prophet "Noah" justify yug systems of Sanatan. "God" is one but called by different names. "Vedas" was send by God lakhs of years ago. God send 124000 messengers across world to eradicate evils and establish humanity. The path of different religions are different but destination is one. "Islam" was in its height during first four centuries. Latter different kings high jacked the religion and experimented it to expand territories. These days few Bhartiye Muslims have gone astray, so Allah has withdrawn his blessing which accounts for pains, struggles and humiliations. After independence Muslims has been used as a tool kit by political parties. 99.9% people living in Bharat have a common "DNA", then why to fight in the name of "Rights" and "Religion"? Fight for your "Duties". The main objective of writing this book is to bring the attentions of people towards this important topic "Who are we?

Book ISSUES IN TRADITIONAL MALAYSIAN CULTURE

Download or read book ISSUES IN TRADITIONAL MALAYSIAN CULTURE written by GHULAM-SARWAR YOUSOF and published by Partridge Singapore. This book was released on 2014 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a selection of non-academic materials on a wide range of topics related to Malaysian culture. Several of them deal with traditional Malay theatre genres, particularly mak yong, recognised by UNESCO as an item of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2005, the shadow play and bangsawan. Others record the contributions of prominent personalities as practitioners, preservers, teachers and transmitters of oral traditions. The author touches upon issues related to the precarious situation in the arts in a rapidly changing Malay society which has in general neglected traditional performing arts forms under pressures exerted by modenisation and the simultaneous wave of Islamicisation. His own involvement in teaching, research, documentation as well as preservation of many of these arts provides unique personal insights into some of the problems and pertinent issues. Other essays of a more general nature, touch upon the continuing and at times controversial relationships between Malay cultural manifestations and those in neighbouring countries, contributions of the minority Indian-Muslim community in Malaysia, and upon the role of the administration in the preservation of heritage. The brief accounts contained in this volume are presented in a direct and readable manner for the non-expert enthusiast of culture and the arts from the perspective of someone deeply and passionately involved.

The distinguished contributors to The Handbook of Global Media Research have produced a challenging and authoritative guide to understanding the latest developments in global media.” Thomas R. Lindlof, University of Kentucky As new forms of media proliferate, and communication becomes ever more global, transnational media is increasingly capable of both enhancing political, cultural, and economic globalization and shaping worldviews and civic identity. Research into the development of transnational media is therefore an essential element of understanding the changes created by advanced globalization. The Handbook of Global Media Research explores and articulates the key themes and competing approaches of this dynamic and developing field. Bringing together the ideas of more than 40 internationally respected authors from around the world, it provides valuable and varied insights into a globalized media landscape, setting the agenda for the future of transnational media and communications research.
