Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I found the dean's insight and vision for new and evolving changes in nursing very motivational. This would be a good read for anyone interested in developing nursing programs." Score: 97, 5 Stars.--Doody's Medical Reviews This book, written by the Dean Emeritus of Columbia School of Nursing, follows the evolution of Advanced Practice Nursing as a successful and well-respected model of independent nursing practice. It describes a dramatic period of 25 years during which the author rescued a failing school of nursing at Columbia University and led it through a period of struggle that, through strong and carefully constructed planning, led Advanced Practice Nursing to a new level of authority and education. It depicts Columbia's leadership in establishing CAPNA, a financially successful independent nursing practice, and uses the case study of Columbia School of Nursing to illustrate how nursing leadership used leverage and political acumen to bring together disparate and unusual partners to support its mission to restructure the APN model. Divided into six sections, the book describes how the innovations transpired during five-year periods and provides, in the final section, an action plan for those who would like to develop the same level of practice in a school or individually. Chapters address why the seminal achievement occurred, exactly what took place, the cultural and practice environment in which change occurred, strategies used and resistance overcome, and solutions that emerged as a result of the final achievement. The text, with its professional and financial model, will be of value to nurse educators who wish to invigorate their programs, DNP graduates who seek to develop their practices, medical educators, business education professionals, and health reformers. Key Features: Portrays a passionate 25-year struggle towards the achievement of advanced practice nursing authority and autonomy Shares a successful model of independent nursing practice Offers guidelines on how to train faculty for their role in providing necessary clinical education in NP and DNP programs Provides a blueprint for schools of nursing attempting to develop strong DNP programs and initiate an independent faculty nursing practice Written by the Dean Emeritus of Columbia School of Nursing
Download or read book Alive Surviving Modern Oncology written by Ann Gimpel and published by Ann Gimpel Books, LLC. This book was released on 2023-07-31 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cancer is a bitch of a disease. Every single person who’s experienced being diagnosed and treated is a hero. There are a lot of cancer books out there. What’s different about this one? Maybe nothing. Maybe a lot. I’m a psychologist by trade. About fifteen years back, I started writing novels. Unfortunately, there’s not a scrap of fiction in Alive. There are also no dragons, unicorns, or magical worlds. This book was tough to write. In places, it will be equally tough to read. In addition to my personal saga, it includes stories from other brave souls who volunteered to be part of this project. There are also chapters about the etiology of cancer, cancer as big business in America (and elsewhere), avoiding scams, and integrative oncology. Like most, I started my cancer journey believing the MDs had my best interests at heart. A few did, but to so many others I was nothing but a number, a statistic, many steps removed from a human being. My hope for Alive is it will empower others to stand up for themselves, to ask questions, to do their own research. Ultimately, everyone’s life is precious and worth the effort of self-advocacy.
Download or read book Gratitude and the Good Life written by Philip C. Watkins and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-30 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides clear and sometimes surprising answers to why gratitude is important to living well. The science of gratitude has shown much growth in the last ten years, and there is now sufficient evidence to suggest that gratitude is one of the most important components of the good life. Both correlational and experimental studies have provided support for the theory that gratitude enhances well-being. After providing a lucid understanding of gratitude, this volume explores the many aspects of well-being that are associated with gratitude. Moreover, experimental work has now provided promising evidence to suggest that gratitude actually causes enhancements in happiness. If gratitude promotes human flourishing, how does it do so? This issue is addressed in the second section of the book by exploring the mechanisms that might explain the gratitude/well-being relationship. This book provides an up to date account of gratitude research and suggested interesting paths for future research, all while providing a theory of gratitude that helps make this information more understandable. This book is very valuable to gratitude investigators, as well as all who are interested in pursuing this line of research, students and scholars of emotion and well-being and instructors of positive psychology courses and seminars.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone is born with a living spirit that came from Godit is up to each of us to nurture it to full expression of peace and joy, found in being close to Him. Living in the Spirit is the journey of a lifetime, however long or short our years may be. It is in how we live the days of our lives that we ultimately find that blessed happiness we seek, as the true stories written herein show. These pages illustrate how we have the ability to think, feel, and make decisions, which can lead us into a higher existence beyond just the physical consciousness we all know. Our bodies relate to our spirits, so meeting our bodies needs may now be seen as necessarily connected to the spirits needs. Understanding this interrelationship can lead us into following a more healthful lifestyle and prepare us for a totally spiritual life to come. Inevitably, we will lose our physical bodies, but our spirits will live on forever.
