A treatment option gaining attention is the use of complementary therapy, specifically acupuncture, to assist with reducing cancer related painches This study explores the effects of acupuncture as a standard treatment modality for oncology patients admitted to the hospital. Medical Oncologists and nursing staff serve as the main personnel in educating patients on the various treatment options available. The design of the study includes a pain assessment survey given to all participants multiple times throughout the study. Data represents the information collected over a six month period. Results reveal incorporating acupuncture as an adjunct treatment option has reduced cancer related pain in oncology patients by 10%. Positive changes dealing with pain reduction and quality of life were observed during the study (Vinjamury, Ju-Tzu, Hsiao, Huang, Hawk, Miller, and Yuhong, 2013). Acupuncture proved to be a safe and effective treatment option for those looking to reduce cancer pain utilizing a holistic approach.
