Download or read book Once Upon a Time written by Brothers Grimm and published by Disney Electronic Content. This book was released on 2011-12-27 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ONCE UPON A TIME will be a re-issue of classic fairy tales by the Grimm brothers that will also function as a loose tie-in to the ABC fall 2011 show "Once Upon a Time," featuring 40 public domain translations of Grimm brother tales. The show has a 13-episode order for the fall 2011 season, and premieres on October 23, running through mid-February. It will air on Sunday nights at 8pm. The show's story centers on a woman who is the long-lost daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming who must return to Storybrooke, Maine to help break a curse the Evil Queen set on the world of fairy tales, causing all fairy tale characters to be transported to the modern world and forget their magical origins. The book will be small and gift-sized (think LAST LECTURE), and will feature original artwork and illustrations by artist Kevin Tong (cover, full-page illustrations, series of decorative and thematic illustrations throughout interior). Tong worked as an artist on LOST's art campaign and currently does amazing concert posters. His aesthetic is dark and edgy, and lines up nicely with that of the show—exactly what we're going for with these illustrations. For our book, he'll illustrate the cover, six full-page interior pieces to go with the tales featured in both the book and the show (Snow White, Cinderella, Rumplestiltskin, Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty), and between 20-30 small, decorative images and spot pieces to adorn the interior pages.

While written for children, this fairy tale is sophisticated enough to appeal to adults as well. This parable offers many subtle lessons.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story Once upon a time, in a vast and magical forest, lived a majestic unicorn named Luna. She had a shimmering white coat, a long, flowing mane, and a spiraled horn on her forehead that sparkled in the sunlight. Luna lived with her herd of unicorns in a beautiful meadow, where they grazed on sweet grass and played in the sunshine. One day, while Luna was following a butterfly through the meadow, she became distracted and wandered off into the forest. She followed the butterfly deeper and deeper into the forest, not realizing how far she had gone until she looked up and saw that she was lost. Luna panicked, not knowing which way to turn or how to find her way back to her herd. She felt alone and scared, with no idea how to get back home. But then she heard a whisper in her ear, a voice that seemed to come from inside of her. The voice told her to follow her heart and to trust the path that was laid out before her. With a newfound sense of determination, Luna set out to find her way back home. She followed a mysterious glow that led her deeper into the forest, facing many challenges and encountering new creatures along the way. But through it all, Luna remained steadfast in her quest to find her way back to her herd and the home she loved. This is the story of Luna's journey through the forest, a tale of perseverance, courage, and the power of the heart to guide us through even the most challenging of times. It's a story of the bond between a unicorn and her herd, and the unbreakable connection that can lead us home, no matter where our journey takes us.

Book Jurismania

    Book Details:
  • Author : Paul F. Campos
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 1999-07-15
  • ISBN : 0195351371
  • Pages : 209 pages

Download or read book Jurismania written by Paul F. Campos and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1999-07-15 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Jurismania, Paul Campos asserts that our legal system is beginning to exhibit symptoms of serious mental illness. Trials and appeals that stretch out for years and cost millions, 100 page appellate court opinions, 1,000 page statutes before which even lawyers tremble with fear, and a public that grows more litigious every day all testify to a judicial overkill that borders on obsessive-compulsive disorder. Campos locates the source of such madness, paradoxically, in our worship of reason and the resulting belief that all problems are amenable to legal solutions. In insightful discussions of a wide range of cases, from NCAA regulations of student-athletes to the Simpson trial, from our most intractable social disputes over abortion and physician-assisted suicide to the war on drugs and the increasingly fastidious attempts to regulate behavior in public spaces, Campos shows that the mania for more law exacerbates the very problems it seeks to remedy. In his final chapter, the author calls instead for a humbling recognition of the limits of reason and a much more modest role for our legal system. Clearly written and laced with a delicious wit, Jurismania gives us a CAT-scan of the American legal mind at work. It reveals not only that the patient is even worse off than we imagined, but also clarifies the many reasons why.

Book Once Upon a Time Is Now

Download or read book Once Upon a Time Is Now written by Megan Biesele and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2023 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fifty years after her first fieldwork with Ju/'hoan San hunter-gatherers, anthropologist Megan Biesele has written this exceptional memoir based on personal journals she wrote at the time. The treasure trove of vivid learning experiences and nightly ponderings she found has led to a memoir of rare value to anthropology students and academics as well as to general readers. Her experiences focus on the long-lived healing dance, known to many as the trance dance, and the intricate beliefs, artistry, and social system that support it. She describes her immersion in a creative community enlivened and kept healthy by that dance, which she calls "one of the great intellectual achievements of humankind." From the Preface: A few years ago I finally got around to looking back into the box of personal field journals I had not opened for over forty years. I found a treasure trove. It was an overwhelming experience. So much that I had forgotten came vividly alive: I laughed, wept, and was terrified all over again at my temerity in taking on what I had taken on. To do justice to the richness of these notebooks, I realized, I would have to do a completely different sort of writing from anything I had ever done before.

Limberly's husband, Shard Rondell, a special forces commando with the MoonClock Project, goes in after her through the MoonClock Gate and is never heard from again. Moebius thinks he has all bases covered, but he's done far too good a job of programming the LOGOS, an autonomous sentient software program that runs all ProbablePolis; the LOGOS manages to figure out how to coax the Rondells ten year old daughter, little Nowar Rondell, to come into the breach to help save her Mother and Father, and hopefully, all of ProbablePolis... This book is a Theosophany of sorts, an adventurous journey through metaphysical pop culture, combining elements of humor, quantum physics, gnosticism, history, mythology, geometry, musicology and fantasy into what could otherwise be misconstrued as an exercise in an action-adventure.
