Book Transient Wave Propagation in a Plasma

Download or read book Transient Wave Propagation in a Plasma written by Boppana Lakshmi Jaganmohana Rao and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transient fields due to a dipole placed in lossless plasma and excited by a delta function or a step-modulated sine wave current source were obtained in closed form. Far field approximation was used in the case of step-modulated sine wave. An interesting problem of transmission and reflection of a step-modulated sinusoidal plane wave, when it is incident normally at the boundary of a semi-infinite plasma or a plasma slab was also included. (Author).

Book Transient Signal Propagation in Lossless Isotropic Plasmas Volume I

Download or read book Transient Signal Propagation in Lossless Isotropic Plasmas Volume I written by Cap Haskell and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of the wave packet is used to obtain some general results on the propagation of signals in dispersive media. The dispersion of a Gaussian carrier pulse and a square wave carrier pulse in an isotropic plasma is carried out using the wave packet concept. A general analysis of transient wave propagation in isotropic plasmas is given using Laplace transform methods. Solutions are given in terms of series solutions which may be expressed in terms of Lommel functions. Integral solutions which can be easily evaluated numerically are derived using the convolution theorem and using contour integration techniques. The solutions are useful for short dispersion lengths.

Book An Artificial Transmission Line for Studies of Transient Propagation in Plasma Media

Download or read book An Artificial Transmission Line for Studies of Transient Propagation in Plasma Media written by John D. Antonucci and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lumped circuit transmission line which simulates a plasma was developed. Analogies were established by comparing the equations for the propagation of voltage in the line and the propagation of electromagnetic waves in dispersive media. The network simulated the one-dimensional isotropic case in which the plasma was linear, homogeneous and lossless. Both bounded and unbounded plasmas were considered. The transient reflected and transmitted response was measured for the step carrier sine wave, the step function and the impulse inputs. Phenomena such as ringing and time delay were observed, both of which are related to the plasma frequency. Methods of obtaining plasma slab thicknesses were also investigated. (Author).

Book Electromagnetics of Time Varying Complex Media

Download or read book Electromagnetics of Time Varying Complex Media written by Dikshitulu K. Kalluri and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1998-07-29 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in the fields of materials science and electromagnetics indicate that materials can be synthesized with any desired electromagnetic properties. Electromagnetics of Complex Media provides the appropriate understanding of optimum properties for a given application, addressing the needs of researchers who study electromagnetics as a base for those disciplines using complex materials. Examples include electrooptics, plasma science and engineering, microwave engineering, and solid state devices. The book emphasizes these aspects: Dispersive medium Tunneling of power through a plasma slab by evanescent waves Characteristic waves in an anisotropic medium Transient medium and frequency shifting Green's function for unlike anisotropic media Perturbation technique for unlike anisotropic media Adiabatic analysis for modified source wave All of the above topics use one-dimensional models. Brief discussions also include chiral media, surface waves, and periodic media. The text focuses on bringing out the major effects due to each kind of complexity in the medium properties. A plasma column in the presence of a static magnetic field is at once dispersive, anisotropic, and inhomogeneous - thus the author uses plasma as the basic medium to illustrate some aspects of the transformation of an electromagnetic wave by a complex medium. Early chapters use a mathematical model that usually has one kind of complexity. The medium is often assumed to be unbounded in space or has a simple plane boundary. The field variables and the parameters are often assumed to vary in one spatial coordinate. This eliminates the use of heavy mathematics and permits the focus to be on the effect. Electromagnetics of Complex Media aims to stimulate experimental and additional theoretical and numerical work on the effects that can be obtained by the temporal and spatial modification of the magnetoplasma parameters. The book also provides the new researcher with a quick primer into the theory of using magnetoplasmas for the coherent generation of tunable radiation.

Book Transient Signal Propagation in Lossy Plasmas

Download or read book Transient Signal Propagation in Lossy Plasmas written by Ronald Louis Fante and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using contour integration techniques, the authors have calculated the transient response of a lossy homogeneous isotropic plasma to a unit step and a step-carrier sine wave. It was found that in the presence of losses the temporal step function response within the plasma does not approach zero for large time as for the collisionless case, but rather approaches unity. The rate at which the transient approaches the asymptotic value of unity is strongly dependent on the losses, being quite rapid for large losses and exceedingly slow for very small losses. This result has an important impact on the propagation of EMP through the plasma sheath around a reentry vehicle, and through the ionized region near a low altitude nuclear fireball. (Author).

Book Transient Signal Propagation in Lossless Isotropic Plasmas Volume II

Download or read book Transient Signal Propagation in Lossless Isotropic Plasmas Volume II written by Cap Haskell and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The asymptotic behavior of transient signal propagation in lossless, isotropic plasmas is discussed at length for a typical input signal of a step modulated sine wave. A generalized saddlepoint integration is carried out that gives a continuous solution for the dispersed signal everywhere except at the signal wavefront. The solution for the wavefront is obtained by using a high-frequency expansion technique. Universal curves are presented for the behavior of the distorted signal as a function of the plasma frequency, signal frequency, and propagation distance. The solution is a very good approximation for plasma propagation length that are long compared to a wavelength. (Author).

Download or read book Plasma Waves written by D.G. Swanson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plasma Waves discusses the basic development and equations for the many aspects of plasma waves. The book is organized into two major parts, examining both linear and nonlinear plasma waves in the eight chapters it encompasses. After briefly discussing the properties and applications of plasma wave, the book goes on examining the wave types in a cold, magnetized plasma and the general forms of the dispersion relation that characterize the waves and label the various types of solutions. Chapters 3 and 4 analyze the acoustic phenomena through the fluid model of plasma and the kinetic effects. These chapters also describe the averaging process for the fluid element motion using expanded Boltzmann equation for each species in a velocity moment expansion, truncating the expansion at some suitable level, depending on the particular problem. The remaining four chapters discuss the effects of adding sharp boundaries, slowly varying inhomogeneities, nonlinearities at several levels, and turbulent plasmas. Supplementary texts on complex variables and the special functions in plasma physics are provided in the concluding section of this text. The book is an advanced text for graduate students who have had an introductory plasma course at some level.
