Book On Transient Thermal Stresses in Viscoelastic Materials with Temperature dependent Properties

Download or read book On Transient Thermal Stresses in Viscoelastic Materials with Temperature dependent Properties written by Rokuro Muki and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper deals with the quasi-static analysis of transient thermal stresses in the linear theory of homogeneous and isotropic viscoelastic solids with temperature-dependent physical characteristics. The underlying constitutive law rests on the temperature-time equivalence hypothesis according to which a uniform temperature change affects the viscoelastic response of the material through a corresponding uniform shift of the logarithmic time scale. If the temperature varies with time, the preceding hypothesis implies a dependence of the instantaneous stresses upon the entire temperature history. Following an exposition of the theoretical background, exact solutions are deduced to two specific problems. The first concerns the transient thermal stresses in a slab of infinite extent, generated by a temperature field that depends arbitrarily. (Author-PL).

Download or read book Thermal Stresses in Severe Environments written by D. P. Hasselman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 727 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of Thermal Stresses in ~~terials and Structures in Severe Thermal Environments constitutes the proceedings of an international conference held at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA, on ~1arch 19, 20 and 21, 1980. The purpose of the conference was to bring together experts in the areas of heat transfer, theoretical and applied mechanics amd materials science and engineering, with a.common interest in the highly interdisciplinary nature of the thermal stress problem. It is the hope of the program chairmen that the resulting interac tion has led to a greater understanding of the underlying prin ciples of the thermal stress problem and to an improved design and selection of materials for structures subjected to high thermal stresses. The program chairmen gratefully acknowledge the financial assistance for the conference provided by the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, the Army Research Office and the Office of Naval Research as well as the Departments of Engineering Science and Mechanics and Materials Engineering at Virginia Poly technic Institute and State University. A number of professional societies also provided mailing lists for the program at no nominal cost The Associate Director, Mr. R. J. Harshberger and his staff at the Conference Center for Continuing Education at VPI and SU should be recognized especially for their coordination of the con ference activities, lunches and banquet. Provost John D. Wilson gave a most enlightening and provocative after-dinner speech.

Book High Temperature Structures and Materials

Download or read book High Temperature Structures and Materials written by A. M. Freudenthal and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High Temperature Structures and Materials is a compilation of the proceedings of the Third Symposium on Naval Structural Mechanics held at Columbia University in New York on January 23-25, 1963. The symposium provided a forum for discussing structural mechanics under conditions of elevated temperatures. Emphasis is placed on the various aspects of structural design for elevated temperature service. The following areas are covered: material aspects of elevated temperature design; effects of high-speed environment; thermal stress analysis; and design criteria and reliability. This book is comprised of 13 chapters and begins by assessing the temperature dependence of elastic and anelastic properties in solids, followed by a discussion on the thermo-mechanical behavior of ceramics. Subsequent chapters explore the physical aspects of creep; thermal fatigue and its relation to creep rupture and mechanical fatigue; materials aspects of the re-entry problem; and problems of heat conduction and melting. Thermal stresses in viscoelastic solids are also considered, along with creep design and aspects of reliability under conditions of elevated temperature creep and fatigue. This monograph will be a valuable resource for material physicists and mechanical and structural designers concerned with the problem of elevated temperature effects on the performance and safety of modern structures.

Download or read book Thermoinelasticity written by Bruno A. Boley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proposal for a Symposium on high temperature effects in solids originated in 1964, at which time a pilot committee, headed by Professor F. K. G. ODQVIST, was formed. Upon the recommendation of this com mittee, a site for the Symposium and a Scientific Organizing Committee were chosen, and some guidelines delineating the field to be covered were established. The Symposium was held at the National Engineering Laboratory in East Kilbride (Glasgow), Scotland, from June 25 to 28, 1968. The Scientific Organizing Committee was composed of the following mem bers: Professor B. A. BOLEY, Chairman (U. S. A.) Professor F. BUCKENS (Belgium) Professor F. K. G. ODQVIST (Sweden) Professor W. OLSZAK (Poland) Professor H. PARKUS (Austria) Dr. D. G. SOPWITH (U. K.) The Local Organizing Committee was subsequently formed; it was direct ed by Dr. SOPWTTH with Mr. R. BRODIE as Secretary, and Mr. C. E. PHILLIPS and Dr. J. GLEN as additional members. It deserves ample praise for excellent arrangements and hospitality. In the discussions concerned with the goals of the Symposium, it was decided that its principal aim should be the presentation of a comprehen sive view of the behavior of solids and structures at high temperature under any type of inelastic regime. It soon became apparent that this was a very wide field, since it would embrace questions ranging from those of basic thermodynamic to those of engineering analysis and design.

Book Stochastic Structural Dynamics 1

Download or read book Stochastic Structural Dynamics 1 written by Y.K. Lin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains eighteen selected papers presented at the Second International Conference on Stochastic Structural Dynamics, which are related to new theoretical developments in the field. This and a companion volume, related to new practical applications, constitute the proceedings of the conference, and reflect the state of the art of the rapidly developing subject. The conference was held in Boca Raton, Florida during May 9-11, 1990 hosted by the Center for Applied Stochastics Research of Florida Atlantic University. A total of 20 technical sessions were organized, and attended by eighty participants from 12 countries. Special emphases of the conference were placed on two areas: applications to earthquake engineering and stochastic stability of nonlinear systems. Two sessions were dedicated to the memory of late Professor Frank Kozin, one of the founders and most active contributors to the stochastic stability theory. We are indebted to the National Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (NCEER) for financial support. Most credit belongs to each of the authors whose contributions were the very basis for the undoubted success of the conference. We are grateful to the reviewers who carefully refereed the contributions for these two volumes. Our special thanks are due to Mrs. Christine Mikulski, who carried out all the necessary secretarial tasks associated with the conference with dedication.
