Book On the Theory of the Polarization of Nucleons by Deuterons

Download or read book On the Theory of the Polarization of Nucleons by Deuterons written by Kenneth Smith and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In anticipation of the availability of the phase-shifts and mixing parameters, which are being calculated by Bransden, Smith, and Tate for the elastic scattering of nucleons by deuterons (with tensor forces), the von Neuman density matrix and Racah algebra were used to derive expressions for the average value of the spin operator in the emerging beam of nucleons after single and double scattering from un-polarized deuterons. The values of the geometrical factors which appear in these expressions were calculated on an IBM-650 digital computing machine and are given in the form of tables. The range of the angular momentum quantum numbers was chosen to cover nucleon-nucleon and nucleon-deuteron problems up to J, the total angular momentum, equal to five.

Book Polarization in Three nucleon Breakup

Download or read book Polarization in Three nucleon Breakup written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A variety of analyzing powers for d+p breakup reactions initiated by polarized deuterons incident on protons have been measured at deuteron bombarding energies of 16 and 79 MeV. The results are compared with Faddeev calculations using both separable (at 16 and 79 MeV) and local (at 79 MeV) interactions. These calculations include nucleon-nucleon forces in the S, P, and D states and the 3S1-3D1 tensor force. 19 references.

Book Photodisintegration of the Deuteron

Download or read book Photodisintegration of the Deuteron written by H. Arenhövel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than 50 years ago, in 1934, Chadwick and Goldhaber (ChG 34) published a paper entitled "A 'Nuclear Photo-effect': Disintegration of the Diplon by -y-Rays."l in the introduction: They noted "By analogy with the excitation and ionisation of atoms by light, one might expect that any complex nucleus should be excited or 'ionised', that is, disintegrated, by -y-rays of suitable energy", and furthermore: "Heavy hydrogen was chosen as the element first to be examined, because the diplon has a small mass defect and also because it is the simplest of all nuclear systems and its properties are as important in nuclear theory as the hydrogen is in atomic theory". Almost at the same time, in 1935, the first theoretical paper on the photodisinte gration of the deuteron entitled "Quantum theory of the diplon" by Bethe and Peierls (BeP 35) appeared. It is not without significance that these two papers mark the be ginning of photonuclear physics in general and emphasize in particular the special role the two-body system has played in nuclear physics since then and still plays. A steady flow of experimental and theoretical papers on deuteron photo disintegration and its inverse reaction, n-p capture, shows the continuing interest in this fundamental process (see fig. 1.1).

Book Theory of Nuclear Reactions Involving Polarized Deuterons

Download or read book Theory of Nuclear Reactions Involving Polarized Deuterons written by L. WOLFENSTEIN and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods of describing the polarization of particles of spin 1, such as the deuteron, are considered. The restrictions which the usual invariance requirements place upon the spin dependence of transition amplitudes are determined; no theory of nuclear interactions is presupposed. The polarization of the deuterons produced in the p + p yields pi(+) + d reaction is studied. Detailed assumptions concerning this reaction are not made, but limitations are put on the orbital angular momenta which should be valid if the energy is not too high. Elastic d-p scattering is suggested as a means of detection of this polarization, and the possibility of its use is explored.

Book Polarization Theory of Nuclear Reactions

Download or read book Polarization Theory of Nuclear Reactions written by Qing-Biao Shen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-24 with total page 743 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the reader with a modern and comprehensive overview of nuclear polarization theory. The understanding of polarization phenomena greatly enriches data obtained from scattering and nuclear reactions by providing information on the interaction that can change spin orientation as well as important verification data for the study of nuclear structures and reaction mechanisms. The author methodically derives the polarization theory of nuclear reactions for various types of elastic scattering and two-body direct reactions between particles of different spin and unpolarized target nuclei with arbitrary spin, as well as the reactions between two polarized light particles and the polarization theory for photon beams. In addition, the polarization theories of relativistic nuclear reactions are rigorously covered in great scope and detail. A chapter on polarized particle transport theory presents the Monte-Carlo method for describing the transport of polarized particles and formalizes the polarized particle transport equation. Here, the author also illustrates a novel and concrete scheme for establishing a polarization nuclear database. Nuclear polarization is important not only for microscopic nuclear structure and reaction studies but also for nuclear engineering, applied nuclear physics, and medical physics. With the development of radioactive beam facilities and, on the theoretical side, the development of consistent microscopic nuclear reaction and structure theories, this book on the polarization theory of nuclear reactions serves as a timely source of reference for students and researchers alike.

Book Single and Double Polarization Observables in the Electrodisintegration of the Deuteron from Bates Large Acceptance Spectrometer Toroid

Download or read book Single and Double Polarization Observables in the Electrodisintegration of the Deuteron from Bates Large Acceptance Spectrometer Toroid written by Adam Jon DeGrush and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the underlying mechanisms involved in the interactions between nucleons is one of the fundamental problems in nuclear physics. Over roughly the last 70 years, this question has been approached on many different fronts. We believe that the theory underlying the interaction between nucleons is that between quarks and gluons described by Quantum Chromodynamics; however, a complete solution to the nucleon-nucleon interaction within this framework has yet to emerge. In parallel, the advent of polarization experiments involving both polarized beams and targets has provided new experimental avenues to test our understanding the reaction mechanisms involved in the nucleon-nucleon interaction. One important example is the electrodisintegration of the deuteron ... (e[over-arrow], e'p)n, in particular the measurement of the beam-vector asymmetry, AV, and the tensor asymmetry, AT. Both of these asymmetries are sensitive to the d-wave components of the deuteron and are thus measurements of the effects of the tensor force in the nucleon-nucleon interaction. This work reports on measurements of AV and A T in the electrodisintegration of the deuteron that were performed by the BLAST collaboration at the Bates Linear Accelerator Center involving two data runs during 2004 and 2005. The measurements consisted of cross sections and asymmetries vs. missing momentum for a Q2 range of 0.1(GeV/c) 2
