Book Fluid Vortices

Download or read book Fluid Vortices written by Sheldon Green and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 905 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid Vortices is a comprehensive, up-to-date, research-level overview covering all salient flows in which fluid vortices play a significant role. The various chapters have been written by specialists from North America, Europe and Asia, making for unsurpassed depth and breadth of coverage. Topics addressed include fundamental vortex flows (mixing layer vortices, vortex rings, wake vortices, vortex stability, etc.), industrial and environmental vortex flows (aero-propulsion system vortices, vortex-structure interaction, atmospheric vortices, computational methods with vortices, etc.), and multiphase vortex flows (free-surface effects, vortex cavitation, and bubble and particle interactions with vortices). The book can also be recommended as an advanced graduate-level supplementary textbook. The first nine chapters of the book are suitable for a one-term course; chapters 10--19 form the basis for a second one-term course.

Book Coherent Vortex Structures in Fluids and Plasmas

Download or read book Coherent Vortex Structures in Fluids and Plasmas written by Anatoli Tur and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-09 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph introduces readers to the hydrodynamics of vortex formation, and reviews the last decade of active research in the field, offering a unique focus on research topics at the crossroads of traditional fluids and plasmas. Vortices are responsible for the process of macroscopic transport of momentum, energy and mass, and are formed as the result of spontaneous self-organization. Playing an important role in nature and technology, localized, coherent vortices are regularly observed in shear flows, submerged jets, afterbody flows and in atmospheric boundary layers, sometimes taking on the form of vortex streets. In addition, the book addresses a number of open issues, including but not limited to: which singularities are permitted in a 2D Euler equation besides point vortices? Which other, even more complex, localized vortices could be contained in the Euler equation? How do point vortices interact with potential waves?

Book The Effects of Viscosity on the Stability of a Trailing Line Vortex in Compressible Flow

Download or read book The Effects of Viscosity on the Stability of a Trailing Line Vortex in Compressible Flow written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-13 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We consider the effects of viscosity on the inviscid stability of the Batchelor vortex in a compressible flow. The problem is tackled asymptotically, in the limit of large (streamwise and azimuthal) wavenumbers, together with large Mach numbers. Previous studies, with viscous effects neglected, found that the nature of the solution passes through different regimes as the Mach number increases, relative to the wavenumber. This structure persists when viscous effects are included in the analysis. In the present study the mode present in the incompressible case ceases to be unstable at high Mach numbers and a center mode forms, whose stability characteristics are determined primarily by conditions close to the vortex axis. We find generally that viscosity has a stabilizing influence on the flow, while in the case of center modes, viscous effects become important at much larger Reynolds numbers than for the first class of disturbance. Book Viscous Vortical Flows

Download or read book Viscous Vortical Flows written by Lu Ting and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-03-12 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a comprehensive account of the asymptotic theory of slender vortices with diffusion cores. Addressed to both graduate students and researchers it describes the mathematical model and its numerical analysis. The asymptotic analysis involves two length and two time scales. Consistency conditions and time invariance of moments of vorticity are given and applied to numerical solutions. The authors also describe consistency conditions between the large circumferential and axial velocity in the core.

Download or read book Vortex Dominated Flows written by Lu Ting and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-07-05 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides in-depth analyses of vortex dominated flows via matched and multiscale asymptotics, and demonstrates how insight gained through these analyses can be exploited in the construction of robust, efficient, and accurate numerical techniques. The book explores the dynamics of slender vortex filaments in detail, including fundamental derivations, compressible core structure, weakly non-linear limit regimes, and associated numerical methods. Similarly, the volume covers asymptotic analysis and computational techniques for weakly compressible flows involving vortex-generated sound and thermoacoustics. The book is addressed to both graduate students and researchers.
